Great recipe - easy to follow. I made these the night before and refrigerated them after I'd let them rise for the recommended 45 min. and they turned out great. I made 1.5 times the amount of filling as recommended by another review and used cream cheese instead of mascarpone cheese and walnuts instead of hazelnuts. I wasn't thrilled with the icing and would make one without cheese next time. They also reheat very well - I found that I actually liked them more the 2nd time around!

Easy, & Delish

The frozen bread dough is the real winner here. Thaw in fridge overnight, set on counter 15min before rolling and add the fixings. Very good. I think next time will stick with the traditional conf.sugar icing vs. marscapone, couldn't really tell that big a difference so will save the $ for ingredient. The whole family devoured these.

I don't like cinnamon rolls, normally. they are usually way to sweet or just taste like dough. I tried this recipe because my hubby and daughter like cinnamon rolls. They are SOOO GOOD! Easy to make, not too sweet. As my family says- it's a keeper!

Amazing but with one change

This was just too easy! Who knew I could have 'homemade' cinnamon rolls this quick! It took a bit to spreaaaad out the dough to the right size, but once that was done, everything else was a cinch! I did half with hazelnuts and half with pecans and found I liked the pecans MUCH better. Unless someone is a hazelnut freak, I'd recommend pecans. They also freeze well.

User: CATHY from Hopewell Junction, NY    User Rating:
Made this dish for my family for breakfast to rave reviews. I used 1/2 cup powdered sugar instead of 3/4 cup and used light cream instead of buttermilk and the result was a tasty one. Also made my own dough, used a basic pizza dough recipe. The only complaint was that maybe I should have cooked it a few minutes longer.

I made everything the night before and baked it in the morning. It was still great! I still let the dough rise at room temperature (following the directions), and afterwards, sat it in the fridge overnight. The next morning, I just popped it in the oven and made the frosting.

loved this!

WEll for starters i couldnt find frozen bread dough, so i made my own which was fine- however i really felt like there was too much sugar in the recipe so i decreased it and upped the cinnamon. my market was out of marscapone so i subbed cream cheese-im sure it wouldve tasted better if i wouldve followed the recipe exactly, i just prefer more cinnamon.

The icing was the best part and I will definately make it everytime i have cin. rolls (even store bought). I made this with frozen pizza dough and while they were in the oven a couple fell apart because i didn't put them close together. It didn't matter though becuase they were so delicious and basically melted in your mouth!! I will def keep this recipe and make it again and again! Thanks Giada!!

I love these cinnamon rolls, especially the hazelnuts. The only thing I would change is the dough - it's a little too bread-like, maybe using an actual cinnamon roll dough that's sweeter would make them even better.

Eventhough she began the show talking about how light Italian breakfasts are in Italy, there is nothing light about these rolls. They are wonderful and fairly easy to make if you can find some decent frozen bread dough. The marscarpone icing is excellent but the recipe makes about a third more than you need. Overall an excellent morning treat.

Recipe seemed simple enough. Even found the specific brand of frozen bread dough. However, thawing took overnight in the fridge and rolling the dough took quite awhile. Also pinching the seams together really required an egg wash to keep them together. Putting them sliced side down caused some of the filling to fall out (I think I made too much, but you can never have too much filling since that's the good part.) All that said, I wasn't expecting anything great once I put them in the oven. I will say that despite all the drama making them, they actually looked quite nice once done and they tasted very good. My husband was surprised given all my loud comments from the kitchen while I was making them!

I made these rolls in no time. They were delicious ! I like the fact that i could buy the dough in the store and it was affordable. It is some much better than pilsbury cinn.rolls. The only thing i did different was sub the hazelnuts for walnuts because of their price. The marscapone cheese was also a splurge for me.But Giada did give subtitues for the glaze. They need to remember that normal people watch these shows. Some of these ingred. are hard to obtain.although i love to cook.....Thank you for the yummy treats i will definitely make these again !!!

These are soooo good! I used my own sweet bread dough recipe instead of frozen bread dough and we had them uniced, since we don't as a rule keep mascarpone cheese on hand but if I ever have any left over from a dessert recipe, I will indeed try these with the icing. I also like that they make a quantity suitable for a small family like ours. For sure these won't get stale!

I really liked this easy to make recipe. Using the frozen bread dough makes it so versitile. You can change up the ingredients for a different flavor each time you make it. The bread dough I used had three loaves, so I can make three different types at once. This helps keep the members of the family happy with their own favorites served right along side the others. Everyone's happy

I'm a professional baker, and usually make my own sweet roll dough for cinnamon buns. This, however, is the best shortcut recipe I've seen and used. I normally don't have hazelnuts but I used pecans and they were wonderful. The mascarpone and buttermilk made a great yummy glaze, and I think I'll be using it for my carrot cake(not so thin though). I do have to "mess" with Giada's recipe and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the glaze. It adds a beautiful flavor to the mascarpone. I would also suggest trying orange oil(one or two drops)in the glaze too.

Cinnabon, WATCH OUT!!
04/08/2006 at 03:22pm
User: Melanie from Cambridge, MA    User Rating:
These were soooo good. Probably the best cinnamon rolls i've had. I ended up having to make my own bread (where are you people finding all this frozen bread dough!?!!?), and it was my first time doing that as well, but it was really quite easy. I also added a bit of nutella on half of the rolls (along with the rest of the filling) and it was SO good. I imagine drizzling it on top with the rest of the icing would also be amazing. If you want to make it with your own bread and do it ahead of time, you can make the dough, let it rise, roll it out and follow the directions in the recipe, including cutting it and letting it rise again. Then put it into the refrigerator overnight. Make sure to set it out for a few in order for the dough to get about to room temperature before you put it in to oven. YOu may even have to add a few minutes onto the cooking time, but they will still definitely be delicious!

I made these for a friend and her husband who recently had a baby. Cinnamon rolls are usually a pain in the *** to make, but these were pretty simple. I over-toasted the hazelnuts, but despite this the rolls were delectible. The mascarpone frosting was finger lickin' good. They make a great gift, but it's much better when you get to eat them yourself.

These are fabulous and so easy to make! So much better than the store bought kind in a can, which I always end up burning. I had to use chopped pecans because I didn't have hazelnuts. I loved the icing, wouldn't change a thing there. I can't wait to share this recipe with friends and family. Thanks!

Delicious!!!

I liked this recipe but I think next time I will use cream cheese because the mascarpone tasted a little funny.

These cinnamon rolls turned out good but not great. I did not use frozen dough, (because I didn't have any), I just made my own, which made a larger batch so I doubled the filling and icing. Still I would have liked a gooier roll. The icing is very good! However to rolls were a bit dry. The cloves add a nice interesting flavor; I might cut back a little next time for a more traditional flavor.

I just didn't like this when it was all said and done. The cinn taste wasn't strong enough and I felt disappointed. I didn't like the hazelnut at all and overall I jsut didn't like it. I was expecting something like Cinnabon. WE threw the rest away. I love Giada's recipes this was the first I didn't care for

Sooo.....delicious!

Made them for the first time on the morning that new carpet was being installed in my home. The workers, and my family, loved the rolls! I will definitely be making these again very soon. Using the pre-made bread dough makes this very easy.

I have tried many recipes for cinnamon rolls and these are by far the easiest and best I have ever made. My husband owns a small hometown style pizza shop, so I used a dough ball for a large pizza instead of the bread dough, and it worked great!

The kids helped with this one. We doubled the recipe and used walnuts instead of hazelnuts. Also, I forgot to buy buttermilk, so we went with cream cheese frosting on top. The kids couldn't have waited another minute to eat them anyway!! They were so yummy, not too sweet, just right. Plan to make for gifts for new moms, Christmas treats, etc.

I made the rool and loved them. My family didn't. I think the issue was the cloves. I will make them again but to make everyone happy, the clove stays out.

After seeing this episode at my relatives' house over the holidays, I knew that I'd need to make these for my family. The directions are easy to follow, and almost all of the ingredients are right in your kitchen. I made the bread dough in my bread machine, and had to substitute butter for the mascarpone cheese (not exactly 'right' in my kitchen), but other than that mine were identical -- and delicious.

I wanted to bake something at 8 pm at night and I saw this recipe! I didn't have hazelnuts or the cheese, so I didn't use any cheese and replaced the hazelnuts with walnuts instead, because I didn't want to drive to the store and my family loved it! I'm going to make this all the time when my family wants cinnamon rolls. Tommorrow I'm going to get the hazelnuts and the cheese and make it just like the recipe says. I never made cinnamon rolls before, this was easy!!! Yay!! :)
