Watch the salt!

This was an incredibly tasty dish HOWEVER, watch the salt. The dish was a little too salty having seasoned the mushrooms twice, using chicken stock and then topping with cheese. The stock and the cheese add enough salt to the dish. Made this with store bought gnocchi from Trader Joe's..just as good and much less work than making fresh! Save yourself the time!

o.k...it was worth it!!

so there was baking, ricing and mixing involved..if you take it in stages it was easy! the hardest part was knowing how to roll the gnocchi off the fork, but it really didn't matter the sauce and gnocchi were the best!!but i did add 1/4 cup of cream to the sauce.

Great Meal Choice

This recipe creates a wonderfully balanced dish. Flavors & textures fuse, creating a wonderful experience for the palate. The key to this recipe is having everything planned out/prepared. Some steps can creep up on you. This pairs well with beef, which makes a nice play on steak & potatoes.

Excellent!

I cheated and used frozen Gnocchi the first time. it was good but you have to make homemade Gnocchi at least once in your life to really get the full flavor of this dish. It is really good.

We used morel mushrooms freshly picked and rosemary clipped from our garden. The other ingredients were store-bought, but the flavors and texture of the sauce were superb! Cannot wait to attempt the homemade gnocchi.

I didn't have fresh rosemary so substtuted w/dried, couldn't find wild mushrooms so I used portabello. Didn't love the sugo. My husband liked y though. Next time I won't substitute. The gnocchi's were tasty though. Worth another try.

Great Recipe

I really like this recipe. I prefer baking the potatoes instead of boiling them. What really made this recipe for me was the "Wild Mushroom Sugo". Although I didn't have any wild mushrooms available, I did use Crimini and the common white mushrooms found in a supermarket. I found they worked quite well. I've tried this recipe several times. The first time I went a little too heavy on the salt. I also added more Rosemary than I should have. The second time I tried the recipe, I definitely cut back on the salt and Rosemary. This makes a big differance in the flavor. If anyone decides to try this recipe, I would recommend that you don't exceed the recommended quantities of the various ingredients.

Awesome!

OK, I'll admit it; I used store-bought gnocchi, but I made the mushroom sugo and it was FABULOUS! The only reason I didn't give this recipe 5 stars is because I don't know how difficult the gnocchi is to cook yourself, or how it tastes. My husband loved the sugo; we decided it tasted like we'd dined in a really great tuscan restaurant. I will definitely make the dish again for us, and I'm looking forward to making it for company. It wasn't difficult at all!

I make homemade gnocchi and it is really easy. You can find a gnocchi board on the net for $3.95 for a proffessional look. Love Michael's recipe, and the sauce was easy and excellent. This is a definite keeper, so if you save in your recipe box, print 1st, as I lost many when they auto. delete them. This is a winner, thanks Michael.
