don't think this can be fixed 07/05/2008 at 07:39pm User: John from MOrristown, NJ User Rating: Made this for dinner, am an accomplished cook and love most of what Paula makes. This was gloppy and bland. I used fresh crab, 8 oz and ritz with butter, don't know why the eggs, union was raw, I cooked at 350 for 30 min and 400 for 20 in 1 qt casarol. I can't think what I would do to fix this. Best I've Ever Eaten 06/03/2008 at 11:22am User: Anonymous User Rating: I fixed this for myself, freezing half for later use. It was by far the very best crab casserole that I have ever eaten. Melts in your mouth! The frozen half tasted just as good as the original. My friends and family love this. Wonderful! 04/30/2008 at 09:23am User: Anonymous User Rating: The most recent review boogered up the recipe so much, how can she tell whether or not she likes it? Based on her modifications, it's hardly recognizable. My hard to please crowd thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I. I will make it again, and often. crab casserol 03/10/2008 at 03:27pm User: Tonya from Turlock, CA User Rating: I've watched Paula Dean make it on her food network t.v. show. It is very simply and very very delicious. I love this recipe. Made it with chicken 02/25/2008 at 04:25pm User: Cherryl from Lilburn, GA User Rating: I made this recipe with chicken instead of crab and left out the olives. My husband and I both enjoyed it. CRAB CASSEROLE REVIEW 02/01/2008 at 06:04pm User: Chris from Denver, NC User Rating: SIMPLE INGREDIENTS AND EASY PREPERATION, MY FAMILY LOVED IT Loved it! N ew family fav 01/30/2008 at 07:24pm User: Nicole from JimThorpe, PA User Rating: I just made it tonight for dinner for my dad and I, it was big hit. He had seconds, it was sooo way easy to make highly recmond esp for lent. I'm going to make again and try mushrooms in it and made less eggs. Paula was on the spot when she said it was good. Crab Casserole 01/25/2008 at 04:26pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I tried the recipe, & it turned out GREAT!! Good Taste 01/24/2008 at 06:35pm User: Linda from Lilburn, GA User Rating: I just love it Paula. I intend to prepare it again!!! YUCK-O 01/22/2008 at 02:18pm User: Stacy from Austin, TX User Rating: Gross! This tastes like what I image cat food would. Horrible combination. Skip this one folks! Boo :-( 12/31/2007 at 11:58am User: Arin from Aurora, CO User Rating: I love Paula Deen and most of her recipes, but I won't be making this again. I even read all the reviews before hand and took it to the next level ~ sauted celery, onions & garlic in olive oil before adding, added Old Bay, doubled the crab, used 1/2 the egg, added some fresh dill for flavor... It still tasted like fishy mayonaise. It just wasn't an appealing texture for a casserole. I won't be wasting crab meat on this recipe again. poop :( 09/17/2007 at 11:22pm User: brittney from San Diego, CA User Rating: so gross. but youre still my fav paula! Only OK 09/10/2007 at 07:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I made this recipe yesterday and it went together very quickly. But it doesn't taste any more special than a tuna salad or an originary crad salad. I certainly wouldn't call it the BEST ever! Pretty Good Casserole 08/29/2007 at 06:55pm User: terri from newark, OH User Rating: I made this tonight but replaced the crab meat with leftover cooked chicken and it was good. I omited the olives and onion and instead added onion powder, garlic powder, sweet basil and chives. I also used milk instead of half and half as this is what I had on hand. All in all it turned out very well. My family liked it, though we all thought it had a hot chicken salad taste. I will make this one again. NOT FOR ME! 08/28/2007 at 11:52pm User: MARSHA from Port Orchard, WA User Rating: Sorry Paula. I really didn't like the eggs and I did NOT like the olives. I am going to try it cold as someone suggested. Maybe add tuna to it. but then if it isn't better it's going into the round file! yeewww! Not BEST crab casserole 08/23/2007 at 02:56pm User: m from raleigh, NC User Rating: There are too many really good crabmeat casserole recipes out there to use this one. Too many eggs, too much mayo, and it's lacking in some spices. It should be called " to die for Cassrerole!!!" Go Paula, Go Paula!!! 07/31/2007 at 07:20pm User: Laura from West Islip, NY User Rating: I made this dish for lent and used canned TUNA and it was fantastic!!! I absolutely love most of Paula's dishes and I like to think of her as my "substitute" mom, since mine barely cooks!! I love to follow all her recipes and this one was just great!!! So tasty!! Make it even better! 06/15/2007 at 09:41pm User: Karen from Woodland, CA User Rating: Loved the negative reviews...gave me a challange. I doubled the crab, used only 5 eggs, added Old Bay Seasoning, and wheat bread to give it a nutty flavor......hey for a casserole it's GREAT this way! The flavorless crab casserole 05/29/2007 at 02:31pm User: bob from allentown, PA User Rating: I can't believe some people think that this is good. It lacked a lot of ingredients such as prepared mustard and Old Bay. I wasted a half pound of crab meat on this garbage. NO thanks 04/08/2007 at 08:56am User: elaina from Edgewater, FL User Rating: SOrry Paula, love you not this dish. Everyone I gave it to didn'y like it. I brought it to work and no one there even liked it. I agree with others, whre's the crab taste? It looked so inviting but was a disappointement. yumm!! 04/06/2007 at 01:17pm User: Jessecca from Huntsville, AL User Rating: Made this the other night for dinner, and thought it was fabulous!! I think it could use a little more crab, I will add some next time, but a great recipe!!! Thanks Paula! Not the best crab casserole 04/03/2007 at 03:14pm User: Jennie from Dacula, GA User Rating: This casserole was okay, but not the best. It is lacking something. It does not have enough different flavors in it. The onion really stands out and I think one cup is WAY too much! I don't think I will make this again. I have enjoyed lots of Paula's recipes, but this one just doesn't cut it. Company Fare 03/10/2007 at 02:49pm User: Jeanne from Vero Beach, FL User Rating: This is a delightful dish. I did use Kanimi imatation crab (Alaskan pollackw/snow crab) instead of canned and added crumbled bacon on tip with the olives. Made individual casserole servings for my guests. The recipe went home with them. Great dish! Rich & tasty 03/08/2007 at 05:10pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I liked this recipe, my husband, mother and friends LOVED it. The almost raw onions throughout the dish were unappealing to me, I'd cook them slightly before making again. I also removed the olives from the recipe, but it worked out great. You should try this one. Easy to make and delicious 02/26/2007 at 05:27pm User: gerald from lombard, IL User Rating: Paula I read some of the negative reviews and they must have wacky tastebuds because my wife and I just found it to be excellent. We did, however, melt some mozerella cheese on top and had some rye bread with it. A quick and tasty Lenten special. Thanks It truly is... 02/25/2007 at 01:44pm User: Caroline from Saint Marys, GA User Rating: Everyone loved this. The Best? Close to It 02/24/2007 at 11:34pm User: Owen from Holbrook, NY User Rating: This was the first casserole I ever made. It came out tastier than I could possibly have hoped for. I doubled the recipe, and my entire family ate and loved it. Even my picky brother. Super easy! 02/15/2007 at 03:06pm User: Jay from Orange, CA User Rating: I used rosemary/garlic artisan bread for the bread crumbs. Wonderful! Easiest Crab Casserole 02/03/2007 at 07:50pm User: Peter from Silver Spring, MD User Rating: This is about the easiest and simplest crab casserole recipe I've come across. Everybody just loved it and wanted the recipe. Plus, its a recipe you can just breeze through and add to it your own flavor. For instance, I awapped the onions for spring onions (green onions) and also used two teaspoons of WOrchester sauce instead of the parsley and olives. Very much adaptable to your taste. Horrible!!! 02/03/2007 at 12:12am User: Anonymous User Rating: This doesn't even deserve one star. None of the flavors matched and you would never know there was crab in the dish. It's a hot egg casserole. You're better off just throwing the ingredients in the garbage! Not (best crab casserole) 01/29/2007 at 09:07am User: Anonymous User Rating: What a poor use of good ingredients. It was nasty. Ok, but not her best 01/26/2007 at 06:04pm User: Virginia from New Haven, CT User Rating: This dish was okay, but I probably won't make it again. The best part was the green olives which gave it an interesting flavor. Crab Casserol 01/23/2007 at 04:00pm User: Francis from Hartford, CT User Rating: Sounds very delicious Good Stuff 01/21/2007 at 05:55pm User: Bill from Commerce, TX User Rating: Thought the recipe was easy to prepare and had a great flavor. Paula is the best 01/09/2007 at 09:57pm User: Jason from Indianapolis, IN User Rating: I tried this recipe w/ fat free mayo, boiled egg whites and light butter. It was low fat and delicious. Substitution for Afro Americans 11/18/2006 at 04:29pm User: Shari from Huntsville, AL User Rating: The recipe was terrific, Paula. Afro Americans like very flavorful foods and the following substitutions worked very well: instead of Mayonnaise/Milk, I substituted Ragu Roasted Garlic Alfredo sauce and instead of regular bread croutons, I substituted Stove Top Savory Herb Stuffing Mix. The Boiled Eggs were omitted, but the olives were still included. This recipe can be cooked to match all culture types - it is "just that versatile"!!!! fabuluos 11/16/2006 at 04:55pm User: Alison from Los Banos, CA User Rating: This cassorole made even the most critical custommer happy (my husband)!! Just ok 09/21/2006 at 11:02am User: SHANNON from Janesville, WI User Rating: This recipe needed more crab! It tasted mostly like bread crumbs. I added chopped celery which added great crunch, I would recommend it. Not a horrible dish, but needs some ingredient adjusting. I wouldn't make it again 09/20/2006 at 02:52pm User: alina from greenlawn, NY User Rating: All I tasted was eggs and bread crumbs. It definetely as not "The best crab casserole". yes,it is! 09/19/2006 at 11:07am User: connie from vero beach, FL User Rating: I wouldn't have thought of putting boiled eggs in a crab casserole, but this recipe is delicious! A real keeper! delicious 09/18/2006 at 04:08pm User: K from Indianapolis, IN User Rating: This casserole dish was extremely easy to prepare & was the hit of the meal. As well as I being the star cook! Not great 09/18/2006 at 12:53pm User: Jenni from Lake in the Hills, IL User Rating: Just not a fabulous medley of flavors, it's like the ingredients just didn't work together. It's the first time that I haven't liked one of Paula's recipes =( Disappointed 09/17/2006 at 05:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This truly was the first recipe from Paula's show my family did not like. The taste was awful. I ended up pitching it out. We are crab lovers but lost the taste of the crab...it was better cold than served hot...maybe using more crab and less eggs would have helped...easy to fix, pretty to look at but the taste is what it comes down to in the real world!! Disgusting! 09/16/2006 at 12:48pm User: M from Chicago, IL User Rating: Sorry, Paula --- love you and your show but this one just didn't work. Not enough crab and absolutely too heavey on the mayonnaise and eggs. Plan to play with the recipe, though, since I think with some tweaking it might make a nice party dip along the lines of a hot artichoke dip. Needs some spice too. YUCK! 09/14/2006 at 04:30pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was really gross! YUM ! YUM ! GOOD 09/10/2006 at 09:26am User: anna from danbury, CT User Rating: I AM A BIG CRAB LOVER. PAULA ALWAY'S HAS THE BEST RECIPES FOR SEAFOOD... taste from south 09/09/2006 at 11:13am User: Anonymous User Rating: It,s taste like dish from South!! ,my husband is from South,so i did watch Paula,s show and since we moved from Tennesse few month ago Ihhhh, let,s cook something southern way, well i did print a recepy and ,but remember Paula say you can add what you want or replace,i did replace crab meat with chicken ,but from can ,but next time i wiil add chunks of real cooked chicken.I did serve on a side apples with cinnamon italian style green beans, but remember (you have to cook them southern way) and corn . WE have wonderfull meal and I am not surprise that some people don,t get it . You have to know how food from South taste . You love it or you don,t!My husband love it!!! and I call my self alien with a southern flavor!!! Thank you Paula great day for you!!and yyooou ooall!! Best is Right! 07/14/2006 at 06:20pm User: Whitney from Fayetteville, NC User Rating: This was absolutely delicious! I love Paula's recipes, and this one works with turkey, too. Superb 07/08/2006 at 04:12pm User: sabrena from Bradford, PA User Rating: this meal was very great for the family when we needed to be places at a certain time. It is The Best Crab Casserole 06/13/2006 at 01:28pm User: Kristy from Reisterstown, MD User Rating: I loved this recipe. It is so quick and easy to make. I however do prefer to add a little old bay as I like my crab a little spicy. Great Success! 04/17/2006 at 11:10am User: Camy from Pelham, NH User Rating: My family really enjoyed this dish. I made it on Easter to go with our ham. So easy to make. My mother-in-law called the next day to tell me how much she liked the dish. Not good 04/14/2006 at 09:04pm User: Kim from Bonneau, SC User Rating: I agree with the other responses. This is not Paula's best work. Too creamy, not enough crab taste and I even put more crab than it calles for and the olives were too much flavor. The olives were a bit overpowering, though I love olives. so-so 04/14/2006 at 07:49pm User: maria from South Salem, NY User Rating: Too much going on. Not enough spotlight on the flavor of the crab. I wouldn't waste the crab again. CRAB CASSEROLE STAR 04/11/2006 at 04:43pm User: SALLY from GOSHEN, OH User Rating: It was easy and soooo good. My husband loved it also. It was better the second day. WORST Crab Casserole 04/04/2006 at 10:35pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I tired making this concoction two times, once exactly written and once embellished to see if I could recover the flavor. All I ended up with was 1 1/2lb of wasted crab and a stomach ache! The other posts are correct. As written, this has far too much egg flavor and, for me, came out a little soft. Granted, savory cooking is an art and the art is in the eye of the beholder, but some times the flavors just don?t work. This is one of those times. The dish was almost unpalatable. My second batch, I tried taking some of the tips here: old bay seasoning, on an English muffin, etc. It just does not work. The first time it had almost no flavor, save egg. The second time I added corn, old bay, English muffin bread, sauteed the onions in garlic and olive oil with some celery added, used larger lump crab meet, and included the casserole savor ?cheese?. This time it was eatable but still unworthy of the price of crab meet. Please, any one else viewing this recipe, go some other place. This just does not work. The consistency is wrong, the flavor medley is the off and it takes longer to cook than it claims: hungry families are not that patient. Love that Crab casserole! 04/02/2006 at 08:23pm User: Carmelita from Orlando, FL User Rating: Saw the show today and was looking for something different for a Sunday meal. Made your crab casserole and Wow! My husband was pleased and full with your crab casserole!! He wants to try the eggplant casserole also. You brightened a lazy Sunday afternoon for us both. Now, that he has had his nap and the kitchen is clean,he will want to warm up the left overs! Thanks again Paula, Carmelita Gee; Orlando, Fl Mixed Reviews 03/31/2006 at 05:49pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I thought there were too many eggs in this recipe. All I tasted were the boiled eggs. I would use less if I made this recipe again to let the other flavors show through. My husband, on the other hand, went back for seconds and thirds. like hot egg salad 03/29/2006 at 05:48pm User: Peggy from New Caney, TX User Rating: Love ya Paula but this was just not good. Way too much egg, just plian 'ol tasted like hot egg salad. It was better cold. Best 03/28/2006 at 03:07pm User: Virginia from Nashville, TN User Rating: I enjoyed the flavor of this, and the easy way in which it was to prepare and serve/ I will use this over and over!! not impressed 03/24/2006 at 03:25pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I usually love Paula's recipes but this one just didn't taste very good. My husband who eats anything didn't even like it. The Best Crab Cassarole 03/21/2006 at 03:16pm User: Susan from Redmond, OR User Rating: This was absolutley wonderful, made for husband and he just loved it. It was even better the next day. You could really taste the crab. Would also be wonderful with fresh crabmeat. Not bad 03/17/2006 at 06:50pm User: Neneh from Holly Springs, NC User Rating: I made it just as described only I added some extra prawns and used old bay instead of salt & pepper as recommended by other reviewers and it was delicious!!!!!! Yuck!!! 03/14/2006 at 07:37am User: Anonymous User Rating: Just didn't like at all!!! Might be the worst... 03/12/2006 at 06:26pm User: Paula from Fort Montgomery, NY User Rating: I tried this recipe, and was thoroughly dissappointed. It was a waste of good ingredients, and it makes me wonder how or if you test thr recipes. Onions 03/12/2006 at 03:45pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Other than onions there is no taste -waste of crab The Best Crab Casserole 03/11/2006 at 04:06pm User: Mary Lou from Defiance, OH User Rating: I think that it is very good, even through I didn't quite make it the way it was. I was making it from memory and I substituted minced clams instead. and added shredded cheese to it. The next time I make it I'm going to use crabmeat. Great dish for Lent 03/11/2006 at 10:34am User: Teresa from Edinburg, TX User Rating: Very tasty. I did not use the olives but substitued mushrooms instead. I also added some Italian breadcrumbs to the mix and as the topping. Everybody loved the dish! HEck YEs 03/11/2006 at 12:31am User: Anonymous User Rating: I was o-so-hungry after, i read that recipe!!!!!! The best Crab Casserol 03/10/2006 at 03:52pm User: Peg from Greenfield, MA User Rating: Taste was interesting & different; could also be served as an appetizer with crackers. Preparation with easy to follow directions. great recipe for Lent 03/10/2006 at 07:21am User: sherry from cedar falls, IA User Rating: I am always looking for something good to make for Lent and this a nice job. Easy to make and 'over the top'. Thanks Sherry from Iowa TLC 03/09/2006 at 01:52pm User: gail from Towson, MD User Rating: After reading other reviews, I varied the recipe a bit. Instead of one 6 oz can of crabmeat I added two. Instead of six hardboiled eggs, I added four. Also, I used my food processor to chop the olives, onion and eggs, making them much smaller that sliced. Then I added a drop of hot sauce. By using this recipe, the consistency was much better, and the casserole more flavorful. Can not belive this came from Paula 03/08/2006 at 01:06pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was a waste of time and money.. this tasted like a egg salad with a little bit of crab meat that u could not even taste..We love you Paula but this was the pitts !!! oh my gosh 03/06/2006 at 04:08pm User: Anonymous User Rating: this is the best cassoral in the world~! :0) Delicious 03/05/2006 at 07:39pm User: Janet from Wallingford, CT User Rating: I saw this recipe yesterday, and had to go to the grocery anyway and decided to buy any ingredients I needed. While I was making it tonight a read a couple reviews and added Old Bay Seasoning and only 4 extra large hardboiled eggs. I also used 8 oz. of claw crab meat bought at the fish dept. of the store. It came out wonderful. Not soupy, but firm. Soft bread crumb are simple to do. Just take most of the crust off of italian or french bread and put in the food processer. I will make this often. My husband is my greatest food critic and he loved it. Crab Casserole Recipe 03/05/2006 at 07:19pm User: Nancy from Stephens City, VA User Rating: Great crab recipe. Substitution 03/05/2006 at 02:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Great Casserole. Instead of using crab, I used frozen shrimp that has been thawed and cut in half. Eyeball the amount of shrimp. Using more will make it more dense. Also, used about 1/3 -1/2 c. more fresh bread crumbs in mix for a little thicker casserole. Possible good brunch 03/04/2006 at 08:45pm User: Andrea from Forest, VA User Rating: I would recommend this casserole to be served over toasted English muffins or something similar for brunch. It was pretty tasty; however, it was very similar to egg salad mixed with a bit of crab. We would also suggest that instead of salt and pepper, one would use Old Bay. |
