I cooked this recipe twice. The first time was not good, but the second time it turned out great with a few personalized touches. My only complaint is that it doesn't keep well at all, so you really need to serve it all in one sitting. Also, I recommend adding sauteed onions over raw.

Just ok..

This was a little bland to me. If you are looking to use up extra zucchini, Ina Garten has a GREAT zucchini gratin recipe!

Paula Dean seems to find such good recipes for fresh vegetables. Being a zucchini lover I was anxious to try this one and I was not disappointed. It was even good a day or two later. I didn't even have to nuke it, it was delicious cold. I told a couple friends about it and have given them copies so they could also try it. Thumbs up on this one, Paula!

Zucchini-lovers should eat this!!!

This was a fantastic recipe - if you love zucchini, this is for you. I cooked the onion along with the zucchini so it would be tender and not so strong. This recipe is a lot like Barefoot Contessa zucchini gratin except for the eggs. Both recipes are excellent. I plan to make this many times in the future including for parties. Yum!

Great side

This recipe is REALLY good....as Paula always says...try the recipe like it's written...then make it your own... I added more onion, more parmesan, was a little heavy handed on the Worcestershire and Pepper Sauce and I also recommend a little garlic mixed in and a little smokey paprika on top

Just the best! I was surprised how quiche-like it tastes! The bread crumbs make a little crust! I make this recipe with Gluten Free bread crumbs and it comes out just perfect.

Bland....needs something

User: Patricia from Meadville, PA    User Rating:
Sorry Paula, and all others who seemed to really like this dish, but I made it, faithfully following the recipe, and it was quite bland and unexciting. I think it needs more flavor, maybe using some bacon or smoked ham, and some herbs like thyme. I'll probably make it again, because it has possibilities, but will tweak it some.

Out of this world!

I usually end up giving away most of our garden zucchini because I get so tired of only having one way to fix it (fried). This little gem is going to become a summer staple! Such a unique flavor, and it tastes even better with a dollop of sour cream on top. Many thanks, Ms. Deen...

I served this dish at Easter. One of our guests didn't eat zuchinni, but went back for seconds. Easy, EASY to prepare and most impressive when on your buffet or dinner table! I'm serving it for Mother's Day and also using summer squash for more color.

Delicious "can't stop eating it" recipe. Since my boyfriend and I are on diets, (and his cholesterol is high) I lightened the recipe by: using only 1 tbs of light margarine to cook zucchini, 2 egg yolks + equivalent whites to equal 3 eggs (3/4 cup) and fat free 1/2 & 1/2 for the evap. milk or light cream. I also cook the chopped onion with the zucchini to be sure it is tender. The recipe does not suffer at all with the changes!

Paula you always hit a home run with your recipes, BUT this one was "out of the park" ... Excellent dish and VERY tasty ... I just took another 'custard' out of the oven that I made today with Asparagus, and it's equally delicious.

User: Marilynn from Canyon Country, CA    User Rating:
I really liked this receipe. I microwaved the zuccini with butter and Paula's seasoning in the dish I was serving it in, then drained the juices before putting in the custard part, and used onion powder instead of instant onions. Turned out great. Actually I am making a half batch tonight. Thanks again Paula

I tried it for Easter Lunch. It was very tasty, but the zucchini drained a lot of water, so for next time, I would put less evaporeted milk.

When Paula made this recipe on her show I envisioned the possibilities in cooking it. We don't do zucchini very often. So I made two using asparagus - one with ham and the other with bacon. Both tasted great and the recipe was so simple I couldn't believe it. I'm looking forward to trying other veggies in this recipe. Thank you Paula for coming up with extremely easy and tasty recipes.

After making everything I could think of using the zucchini that overgrew my garden, I looked this recipe up on the website and gave it a try. Loved it! I have decreased the salt and have tried using other veggies like red peppers and corn to add texture. This is an excellent base for any veggie recipe.

Four stars with a little recipe tweaking

User: TAMMY from Brush Prairie, WA    User Rating:
I have made this twice. The first time, I made as directed. The second time I made some minor changes. The first time just didn't seem like "custard," and the onions were too strong. So, the second time I change the onion amount to 1/3 cup, and added them to the zucchini while cooking. Also, I shredded/grated the zucchini and only cooked for several minutes. The result was much better, and certainly worthy of making again.

I love zucchini. I actually liked this recipe but my family did not comment on it at Easter dinner. In Laws barely tasted it. I think it isnt worth all the extra fat and calories as opposed to fresh steamed zucchini although it was good it just did not go over well with anyone else.
