Awful 12/13/2006 at 03:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The biscuits were salty and dry -- save them for leftover ham. The topping was disgusting -- don't even consider it. I made the way she demonstrated. 12/06/2006 at 06:36pm User: Anonymous User Rating: She did not add enough strawburries to give it any real flavor. I hated the biscuits for shortcake. whip em yourself!! 08/24/2006 at 08:06pm User: Becky from harrisburg, PA User Rating: I found that if you use the old fashioned whipping cream, along with the sour cream it creates a much better taste than would cool whip. I though these were deeeelish! I shared them with a bunch of friends and i got rave reviews!!! just whip your own!! pretty good 08/22/2006 at 12:33pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I'd leave the sour cream out next time, because that added a weird flavor and heavy texture. Other than that, I thought it was good. Just make sure to drench those biscuits in the cinnamon sugar! Terrible 08/14/2006 at 01:05pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The biscuits were awful, as was the sour cream mixed into Cool Whip. The biscuits were very salty 08/13/2006 at 06:56pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and really made this dessert less tasty. Think twice before you make this shortcake 07/25/2006 at 06:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: It's really, really bad and will certainly disappoint you. Very Poor 07/24/2006 at 03:56pm User: Perniece from Fort Wayne, IN User Rating: I agree that this is one of her worst recipes. I plan to try this on chunks of angel food cake -- sans the sour cream (which was awful). Honestly the worst we've ever tried 07/23/2006 at 09:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: We've tried many of Sandra's desserts and found that some are a bit too sweet and artificial tasting, so this one looked good. We had it earlier this evening and it was just plain bad. We rinsed off the berries and ate them with a bit of vanilla yogurt instead. The best 07/22/2006 at 09:21am User: Anonymous User Rating: These are sooooo good! VERY SALTY 07/18/2006 at 02:10pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I am not averse to using canned biscuits for shortcake, but I used the ones specified in the recipe, Pillsbury Grands Southern Style, and they were VERY salty. On the package it says one biscuit has almost 600 mg of sodium! Definitely too salty to use as a dessert. astonishingly 07/17/2006 at 09:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: yummy! Unpleasant Topping 07/17/2006 at 02:43pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Real sour cream and Cool Whip mixed together made a topping that had a very offputting texture and flavor. Better to use real whipped cream and sour cream, or leave out the sour cream entirely if you are going to use Cool Whip. The worst dessert recipe we've ever tried 07/16/2006 at 09:10pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I think it was the sour cream mixed with the Cool Whip. Somewhat off-putting in terms of texture. EEW! 07/15/2006 at 05:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: A friend was emptying out her refrigerator before leaving for vacation, and dumped her canned biscuits on me. I had strawberries on hand, so decided to use the biscuits to make shortcake just to get the tubes out of my fridge. Whoever said biscuits are traditional for shortcake is right, but THESE biscuits are not. I'll stick to my homemade, sweetened biscuits. As for the actual recipe, the point of mixing the sugar and berries ahead of time is not to "allow the flavors to meld," but rather to create extra juice for the shortcake. Did not bother adding sour cream to Cool Whip to make a topping - I buy neither - just quickly whipped up some real cream and sugar. my family and me 07/15/2006 at 03:07pm User: Anonymous User Rating: thought this was the best shortcake in the world my husband found this 07/15/2006 at 01:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: a little itsy bit offputting, but I found it to be gackolicious. this was a great take on traditional 07/15/2006 at 12:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: shortcake. My family liked it bunches. bestest 07/15/2006 at 02:15am User: Anonymous User Rating: five stars!!! fine 07/15/2006 at 12:51am User: Anonymous User Rating: recipe for strawberry shortcake. It was a hit!!!! shortcake 07/14/2006 at 11:52pm User: Anonymous User Rating: fit for a king (that means my husband loved it!) eaten happily! 07/14/2006 at 11:17pm User: Anonymous User Rating: We liked this semi-homemade shortcake recipe. Thanks! There wasn't one bit left on any plate :) lovely semi-homemade shortcake 07/14/2006 at 10:53pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe made my whole family smile. THX :-) par excellance 07/14/2006 at 09:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: One of the most wonderful strawberry shortcakes I've tried. I love the depth of flavor and texture the sour cream gave to the topping. And the cinnamon is a great addition. Sandra Lee's shortcake 07/14/2006 at 09:28pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was just outlandishly excellent. Nice recipe except for the biscuits 07/14/2006 at 02:09pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This shortcake was meant to be the dessert served at last night's canasta party. No one said anything, but most scraped the Cool Whip and strawberries off the biscuit. I ended up throwing away most all of the biscuits. I think the recipe is just fine, but for the canned biscuits. I won't use this recipe again 07/14/2006 at 11:35am User: Anonymous User Rating: The biscuit and the sour cream and the excessive amount of sugar are reasons I won't use this recipe again. Salty 07/14/2006 at 11:23am User: Anonymous User Rating: The biscuits were too dry and salty to make into a desert. I made some changes 07/14/2006 at 11:14am User: Anonymous User Rating: I omitted the sour cream and used those little hostess shortcakes. I was pleased with how it came out. Ruined by the canned biscuits 07/14/2006 at 11:10am User: Anonymous User Rating: They were awful! the shortcake 07/14/2006 at 12:11am User: Anonymous User Rating: this shortcake is da bomb! Highly recommended! 07/13/2006 at 11:33pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This is so superb. Great dessert. One for the keeper file. :) unsweeted bisquits make strawberry shortcake better IMO 07/13/2006 at 10:34pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This shortcake. I've never had better. I didn't realize until now that sweetening your bisquits is sweetener overkill for shortcake. The every so slight benign saltiness of the bisquits actually makes the sweetness of the strawberries and the topping taste that much sweeter tasting. Perfect together! Made this for my mom and dad 07/13/2006 at 10:03pm User: Anonymous User Rating: they loved it. This shortcake is hot. ty! simply superb 07/13/2006 at 08:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: If the company that makes jelly bellies ever comes out with a strawberry shortcake flavored jelly bean, I hope they use this recipe for the basis of their flavor! The topping has excellent taste 07/13/2006 at 08:35pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and it's really creamy. Ultra Rich 07/13/2006 at 11:58am User: Anonymous User Rating: This dessert was amazing! The biscuits and easy-to-make strawberry syrup made this recipe a snap to make! The sour cream also adds a lovely taste and heavier texture to the whipped topping. Easy to make! Salty dry canned biscuits 07/13/2006 at 11:11am User: Anonymous User Rating: Were horrible. We agree. the kids had fun and we loved this 07/12/2006 at 11:41pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I put the ingredients out separately and let the kids have at it building their own shortcakes with bisquits and fruit and topping. It was fun, and this is a good recipe for strawberry shortcake. Nice presentation too. At least mine was a nice presentation :) I love dry salty biscuits with sour cream!!!! 07/12/2006 at 08:36pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Too bad the strawberries and Cool Whip ruined the effect. The biscuits were a huge mistake 07/12/2006 at 03:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: But we did like the sour cream. Will make again using sponge cakes. quite traditional with a twist 07/11/2006 at 11:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: loved the addition of sour cream and cinnamon. Shortcake using bisquits is just traditional. LOVELY!!! I wanted seconds 07/11/2006 at 11:27pm User: Anonymous User Rating: enough said !! :) good to the last 07/11/2006 at 10:58pm User: Anonymous User Rating: bite! Shortcake shortcut does not work 07/11/2006 at 02:46pm User: Dottie from Miami, FL User Rating: Thisis one shortcut that just doesn't work. Sorry. Love your other deserts!!!! My gramma used biscuits that didn't taste like these 07/11/2006 at 02:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My gramma made her shortcake with homemade biscuits, too. But they were SWEETENED biscuits. Just like homemade shortcake is also a sweetened baked good. This dessert needs to be made with a sweetened biscuit or with another baked good. Apply sugar before baking or buy something else. My family's strawberry shortcake has always been made with biscuits 07/10/2006 at 10:32pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I grew up with it that way, so this was definitely shortcake to me. Great version too. Tasted great! even Grandma liked this shortcake 07/10/2006 at 10:12pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and she is our family's shortcake dessert guru! easy and yummy 07/10/2006 at 05:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: So good and so easy! Salty Shortcake 07/10/2006 at 05:49pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Tube biscuits should not be used for this... Bisquick or a flour baking mix is hardly challenging to use and makes a far better fast "shortcake". This recipe was a huge disappointment 07/10/2006 at 02:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The sour cream mixed with Cool Whip was obnoxious. It tasted awful. And the biscuit was dry and not sweet enough because the sugar would not stick to it. You really need to have a sweeter cake to make this. :-( This is simply not shortcake 07/10/2006 at 11:11am User: Anonymous User Rating: The biscuit was terrible. Serve it with fried chicken not strawburries! Simply the worst shortcake ever 07/10/2006 at 01:40am User: Anonymous User Rating: created. Thx. This is one shortcake 07/09/2006 at 06:10pm User: Anonymous User Rating: that's not short on good flavor! this takes the cake 07/09/2006 at 04:27pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I like the addition of the cinnamon. Very tasty! simply sublime 07/09/2006 at 04:09pm User: Anonymous User Rating: shortcake Sandra's Shortcake 07/09/2006 at 03:47pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This shortcake was beyond delicious! mmm good! 07/09/2006 at 03:11pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Very good, next time I will add more strawberries but it was really good! We found this shortcake to be nothing short of 07/09/2006 at 02:32pm User: Anonymous User Rating: delectable! shortcake 07/09/2006 at 02:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: to love The biscuits were horrible 07/09/2006 at 02:05pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Tube biscuits are terrible substitutes for shortcake. YUCK! pretty 07/09/2006 at 01:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: great! yum yum yum! 07/09/2006 at 01:35pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I threw a few blueberries into the mix for some added color too. YUM! very nice presentation 07/09/2006 at 01:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and oh so good easy 07/09/2006 at 12:56pm User: Anonymous User Rating: and yummy! delicious 07/09/2006 at 12:39pm User: Anonymous User Rating: strawberry shortcake! F'NTASTIC STRAWBURRY SHORTCAKE 07/08/2006 at 01:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: These were thick and rich and delicious. The sour cream was thick and rich and adds SO much flavor. Worst Shortcake Ever 07/07/2006 at 11:53pm User: Fred Campbell from North Central Unit, AR User Rating: Not clever. Not good. The canned biscuit idea was a flop 07/07/2006 at 09:13pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Canned biscuits belong on chicken and dumplings. They are not sweet and totally stunk as a "shortbread" substitute. Better to just buy the packaged kind that are displayed next to the berries at the supermarket. Save the canned dough for her delicious bao buns. Some subsitutions 07/07/2006 at 05:03pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I was out of sour cream and don't eat fresh fruit as a general rule. Instead I used the mayo from another recipe and strawberry jello. It didn't work. Try again Sandra! Still, I hope you had a lot of tinis on your 60th birthday! easy shortcake 05/08/2007 at 07:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: quick, easy, fool-proof and delicious Quick, Easy & Yummy Morning Dessert 03/02/2008 at 11:05am User: Anonymous User Rating: I saw Sandra Lee prepare this recipe earlier this week. I thought wow.. how quick, easy & yummy it looked. So, I prepared this for my daughter and I. She loved every bite of it, she even ate half of mine. I thought it was delicious and what a great combination with the cool whip and sour cream! Since it was just for us two, I divided the ingredients in half. This will definately be on my list for brunch the next time I have family and friends over. Emphasize berries: not topping 02/27/2008 at 03:16pm User: Charlotte from Plano, TX User Rating: I notice in the photo online she has strawberries on the bottom biscuit as well as at the top, but on TV there were only a few, on top. It needs two or three times as many berries and half as much topping. Put the berries on top of the biscuits, then the topping. This makes the biscuits better. Then add the topping (don't need sour cream). A great suprise 01/31/2007 at 07:53am User: Marshall from Sanford, NC User Rating: The whole family enjoyed tis one. The cincmon really makes it. We both work all day and it is very easy and quick to prepare. Thanks Sandra! Strawberry Shortcake yum yum 01/24/2007 at 01:19pm User: CATERINA from San Pedro, CA User Rating: Eight out of 8 guests wanted seconds! This is easy to prepare and tastes awesome! Also great with peaches. Great Cake 01/23/2007 at 07:31pm User: Bud from Ormond Beach, FL User Rating: Easy and taste great.I love the whipped topping.. |
