I am NOT a Sandra Lee fan, but I saw these one day when the TV was on and I was passing by. I tried them because they looked good and easy. I changed a few things....I used a Hickory Smoke BBQ sauce from the grocery and doctored it up with honey and worcestershire and hot sauce. I also browned the ribs really brown under the broiler before I put them in crock pot....DELICIOUS & EASY

Greasy and grotesque

This was the most horrible combo for a sauce I have ever seen. I purchased the best and most lean of ribs and this recipe ruined the meat. This woman can't make anything that tastes good. Perhaps she drinks too many of her prized coctails. Gross..just like the rest of her stuff.

WE are rib eaters and my husband is very picky aobut his ribs. I made this recipe several times and it never misses. Sometimes I finish it off on the bbq grill outside just for a few minutes. It's easy and I can think about it in the morning and forget about it. Millie Gorelik Highland Park, Illinois

I would call these vile.

The ribs themselves had little flavor and the sauce was sweet and greasy. I poured the sauce over some minute rice and only the baby would eat it. Not good enough to go anywheres near my 'keeper' file.

loooooved this recipe!

I left the pepper out because I have a 3 and a 5 year old who are very sensitive to pepper but otherwise I followed the recipe. It is so easy and the ribs don't taste like boiled meat which I find happens with a lot of crock pot recipes. I could start the food and let it cook while I was working and my husband would have hot fresh food to feed our daughters when they were ready to eat. Lots of flavor and fall off the bone tender!

These are far and away the best ribs I have ever made and I now have my friends hooked. The ease of preparation is fabulous and the house smells great! The only thing I worried about was not enough sauce if I left them alone for the whole day. I can, fortunately, baste them mid-day, but wondered about those who can't get home to baste.

User: Loretta from Lubbock, TX    User Rating:
After reading the positive reviews, I bought a rack of ribs and made the recipe exactly as printed over the past weekend. They turned out to be the strangest ribs I have ever tasted. It was one of those "you either love them or you hate them" kind of afternoons. The "hate thems" definitely won out over the course of the football games. I couldn't give the leftover ribs away, unfortunatley, so I am stuck with basically a tailgating party in my fridge which no one in my family will eat. Invest your time and money in this recipe WITH CAUTION.

The sauce cooked up to be very bad. The taste was something hard to describe, really, but it was very, very bad. Possibly better without the sauce or with bottled BBQ sauce. Also wished they would have cooked up darker.

I don't know what Catalina dressing is so I used half ranch and half thousand island. The flavor was interesting but not exactly what you'd call good. I suspect Catalina dressing must be charcoal or something because I have no idea how she got the ribs as dark as they are in the recipe picture.

This was easy, not too easy, but the results were very good. I browned my Baby Back Ribs on a hot grill for about 5-mins./side. This worked even better than 5-mins./side in broiler. I used ACME low-fat French dressing instead of Catalina, much less expensive. After 6-hrs., turning every 2-hours, with crock on low it was readt to eat. Sandra Lee is simply the best!

I read all the previous reviews and thought I'd try the recipe because "these are the cooking pro's". I followed the recipe exactly as written and the only word that came to mind at dinnertime was DISGUSTING! The ribs never got black like the photo and the sauce never thickened...it's just swam in the crockpot layer with a ton of grease. Yes, they were tender but steam usually does that after a few hours. The meat was totally flavorless. Sorry, Sandra, but you gotta do much better than this!

What a bomb

This recipe is THE BOMB! My family LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!! I did it "as is" and found it just sweet enough and not too spicy. In fact, I'll add more chili sauce the next time. Ended up making a double batch of sauce because my crock pot was too small and the meat has to be covered completely. I also cooked the meat for longer than stated so it truly fell off the bone. As for the sauce being greasy, we found the meat was so flavorful, there was no need for extra sauce but get a seperator and call it a day if the extra sauce is important!!

I can't believe the bad reviews. Even my 10 year old granddaughter loved them. I used only garlic powder instead of garlic salt. And used Thai Garlic Chili Pepper Sauce. And instead of Catalina dressing I used 1 cup of my own Ketchup-based BBQ sauce. Yes, the sauce must be skimmed. I also boiled the sauce a few minutes to thicken it. Altered to make it not spicy

User: Myrrhanndah from West Caldwell, NJ    User Rating:
The recipe looked a bit spicy for our taste so I omitted the chili sauce and used mushroom soup instead. The soup and the salad dressing made a delicious savory gravy that the ribs simmered in. I cooked them about 2 hours longer than the recipe says so that we could just fish the bones out of the crockpot leaving wonderful shards of rib meat swimming in rich, delicious gravy. I served it over caraway seed noodles.

Not too bad...

I tried this recipe today (I had to cook them on high for 3 hours instead of on "slow and low" for 8 hours), and my son and his wife liked the ribs. I didn't use the Catalina dressing (that just didn't sound right to me) and I added some almond paste right at the end to give it a nutty flavor along with the smoke and spice aspect, and I think that did the trick. I then whipped up a dip of ricotta cheese and bleu cheese crumbles, and it was really good at cutting through the heat of the ribs. These were good, Mrs. Lee. Keep up the good work! Happy anniversary to you and your DH!

For a slow cooker recipe, this is hardly VILE. The thngs I did different was to add a tablespoon (or so) of Worchestishre Sause to the sauce, and I cooked country style pork ribs. I did the pre-cook of the ribs on the grill, cooking the same time- 5-6 minutes each side. Made a truly great dish, and not greasy at all.

I was really looking forward to eating some great bbq ribs with this recipe, but that didn't happen due to the recipe and cook time. I followed it to the letter; however, I don't know if it was the honey or some other ingredient that ended up burning in the slow cooker. The cook time for the slow cooker should be reduced to about 2 hours. Also, the ribs really need to be rotated with the sauce distributed thoroughly over them so it doesn't burn, especially if someone wants to cook them on high the whole time. Thank goodness the whole pot of sauce didn't burn so I was able to salvage most of the ribs. I just scraped the unburned sauce over them. Also, the sauce could use a little more sugar or honey. Definitely taste the sauce before drenching the ribs in them.

User: Wanda from Tustin, CA    User Rating:
I recently tried this recipe that was handed to me by a friend. I hadn't read any reviews and just decided to try it. I made the recipe as is except I didn't have a chili garlic so I used some hot sauce with some minced garlic, and for the ground ginger I added fresh minced ginger. The meat was tasty and very tender. The sauce was a bit liquidy and greasy however still tasty. I wanted the ribs to be spicier but I figured since I didn't use the chili sauce that was probably why. Then I went to read some of the other reviews and was blown away. When you make the recipe it is very important that you use LOW sodium soy sauce so that it's not too salty, and you can't substitute for the Catalina dressing with just any old salad dressing and think that it's gonna come out the same. Overall, the recipe was simple and tasty. I would definitely make it again.

My Husband loved it. We have fixed it several times. I do recommend cooking it low and slow. I also pulled the meat off the bone to store leftovers and made open pulled pork sandwiches with barbeque on top!

I refused to listen to the bad reviews and went ahead and made these ribs. The sauce was disgusting and we couldn't even try to eat the ribs. I cannot decide if it was the extreme tangy/salty taste that made me not like these or the overpowering effect of all the ingredients. Please do not waste your time. I decided to make this recipe after watching the show with my Mom, who was visiting for the holidays. It looked really easy and sounded like it might be good. I initially made the sauce as listed in the recipe. It was awful!! Here is what I did: I used country style ribs. I broiled the ribs much longer than the recipe called for. I broiled them until both sides were browned. So broil your ribs for however long it takes to brown both sides. This also cuts down the amount of fat that will be left in your crockpot when you are finished with your recipe. Make sure you season them with salt, pepper and garlic or pepper and garlic salt before you broil them. Make sure you use the chili sauce that comes in a jar. I used a Thai garlic chili sauce. DO NOT USE THE AMOUNT IN THE RECIPE!!! It will make ribs that are so hot, all you will taste is the heat. I used one heaping Tsp of the chili sauce and it was plenty. Use more if you like your ribs very hot. I used more soy sauce than the recipe called for. It was probably closer to 1/2 cup than the 1/4 cup listed. Use 1 1/2 tsp of ginger and add 1 tsp or more of garlic. Tast your sauce before pouring it over your ribs. Adjust the sauce to your own taste. Remember, you can always add more, but you can't take away what has already been added. You are better off adding less and adding more in. I started my ribs on high for the first two hours. Make sure that you are rotating your ribs in order to keep them cooking evenly and covered with sauce. If they appear to be cooking too quickly, lower your temperature. I finished the ribs on low for two more hours. I kept rotating them throughout the cooking process. My ribs were delicious and picture perfect. My husband used the extra sauce to dip his ribs in. They were not greasy at all, nor was the sauce. The meat did fall off most of the bones, but my husband hates bones, so it was perfect for him.

For those who think the sauce is too greasy, you have to add flour or cornstarch to get the sauce a little thick. Then you lay the ribs out on a lined cookie sheet, pour a little sauce over the ribs and put it in the broiler for about 15 minutes!!

I read all the bad reviews and wonderd "are we talking about the same ribs?" First you need to shorten the cooking time to only 3 hours on low! After you take them out of the pot, I put a little more of the sauce that I reserved before cooking them on top and put under the broiler for 5min. This gives them a glossy look and more finger liken good. My friends love this recipe I keep it to myself and have never let on to the catelina dressing used.
