Easy & Delicious

This tastes like a million bucks and is SO EASY! Great for when you're having people over because it tastes gourmet! And if you have any lentils left-over, add some more stock the next day and have some incredible soup!

WOW - what a great lentil recipe from Ina

This was fanstastic! I make the lentils every other week now as a healthy side dish. The tomato paste was an inspired ingredient addition. Healthy, easy, and tolerates substitutions well - e.g., using water instead of broth makes for a very clean vegetarian dish. Ina Garten is amazing - smart, intelligent, and charming. I have made many of her recipes and she is very exact and precise in her directions and measurements.

DELICIOUS (and easy)!

The lentils pair perfectly with the salmon. The flavor of the thyme and the touch of vinegar really complete the dish.

My Husband and I decided to try the lentils,We didn't use Salmon, instead I had swordfish and him and our daughter had Ahi Tuna steaks. We cut down the vegetable content in the lentils and omitted the leeks due to allergies. This dish was excellent. The vinegar at the end of the recipe gave it such a good taste.I highly recommend anyone who loves lentils try this dish.

Ina does it again!

Wow, this was absolutely delicious, if I wasn't on a budget I would eat this at least once a week. My only problem with this recipe was my lentils never really softened. I am sure this was my fault though, and not a flaw in the recipe.

Not Ina's Best Salmon Recipe
02/24/2008 at 06:52pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I thoroughly enjoy Ina, and several of her recipes are staples in our home. This one left me asking "Why the 5 star reviews?" The lentils were OK for something different, but more work than what they're worth. The salmon lacked flavor, being that salt, pepper and OO were the only additions to it. Be sure to use good ventilation when searing; it filled my house with smoke even thought I had my vent on and windows open. Also, the pan required 5 thorough scourings in order to remove the baked-on oil residue. We love salmon, but I'll stick to Ina's Asian Grilled Salmon, which is a family favorite of ours.

A reliable standby

This recipe is has become a reliable standby in my cooking repertoire. I have made this at least ten times and it's always perfect with or without the salmon which, also, is the very best way I ever came across to cook salmon.

I didn't make the salmon - just the lentils. I cut the recipe in half since everyone said it made too much. We got about 4 servings out of that. I didn't have leeks so I used green onions. Came out perfect! We loved it. I will defnitely be making this again. We don't buy many boxed side dishes (rice or pasta) so I am always looking for good, easy and healthy sides.

delicious!!

i used this recipe to make a lentil soup (didn't try the salmon this time). i doubled the amount of stock and added a bit more seasoning. it was absolutely wonderful. i wasn't sure about the vinegar at the end but i have to say it MADE this dish for me. it really put it over the top and above other lentil soup recipes. you can never do wrong with ina!

This was an interesting match. Not only was it easy to make, my children and I (5yrs & 4yrs of age) made it in a flash. The taste however wasn't as pleasing as I would have expected after reading the previous reviews. Nevertheless, Ina, you're still my favourite!!!!!

tasty, too salty
11/02/2007 at 07:43am
User: Patti from Gilbertsville, PA    User Rating:
I liked this. I used plain ol' lentils from the supermarket, and it was delicious. I would, however, add much less salt to the lentil mixture. I am surprised no one else mentioned how salty this was, and I'm a big salt lover. I would cut the salt in half to one tbsp next time and then season to taste after. Other than that, it was delicious.

Terrific

I am not fan of salmon so I serve the lentils with pork or chicken. I haven't it tried it yet, but I am convinced these lentils would be wonderful with braised beef. I cut the recipe in half for my husband, daughter and myself. Who knew lentils could be so good? I will use this recipe again and again.

Delicious and plentiful

This dish is truly flavorful and delicious. The red wine vinegar added at the end brings all the vegetables' flavors to life. I am not a fast chopper (I'm a novice cook), so the veggie preparation took me a while. I didn't care about that once I took the first taste of this meal. Also, I'm a single guy, so I appreciated the amount of leftovers there was: enough for three hearty meals. I'll certainly make this dish again.

This is the best way to cook salmon...perfectly moist with a delicious crust! The lentils were really good too, but they make a lot. I was cooking for two and should have halved the recipe (even that would have been enough for leftovers).

Best method to cook fish ever!

User: jeanne marie from BOWLING GREEN, KY    User Rating:
This recipe was great--lentils and the salmon. But this is truly the best way ever to cook salmon. The salmon has a wonderful, crisp crust and finishing it off in the oven ensures it is perfectly done, each and every time. The flavor comes thru as very clean and is wonderful just by itself, b ut I have also served various sauces with it. You really need to try this method of cooking salmon!

I watched Ina makes this and I realized I had all of the ingredients. My lentils weren't the one she recommends. Nevertheless, the lentils were delicious. The red wine vinegar gives a great "bite" to the lentils. The salmon was easy to make, and came out very moist. I wanted to make the pecan squares, but I'm trying to watch what we eat. One day, I'll make them as a special treat. Great and easy recipe. Loved it.

Made this recipe and absolutely loved it. As the other reviews stated, there was a lot of the veggie/lentil mixture left over. So the next day, I added some chicken stock, leftover chicken, the rest of the can of tomatoe paste, tomatoes and bell peppers from the garden and made the greatest soup ever!! So dont waste it, clean out the fridge and made a wonderful soup with the leftovers!

I used regular Goya Lentils (1/2 lb more accurately serves 8, not 4) and it turned out fine. Just don't over cook them, as it has the tendency to turn to mush (delicious mush nonetheless). Flavor was wonderful. Can't wait to make it again.

the lentils were ok the day i cooked them (not great, not disgusting), but when i tasted it the next day it tasted horrible to me. i don't think the flavor changed, i think my palate just realized that it didn't taste good. i will never make this again. ina's recipes are usually great but this wasn't.

I'm always pleased when a new way of preparing something turns out just like it's supposed to---this way of doing the salmon is really quick, just need to practice taking the skin off. Perhaps the fish guy can do that? Lentil recipe was yummy, and as I had plenty left over, think it would be a good base for a soup, or just to add whatever, like chicken. Also is fine as a cold salad, could add a grain, etc. Thanks, Ina---you're teaching me to cook!
