11 years in restaurant industry. Best potatoes I've ever had!!! 07/02/2008 at 04:51pm User: William from Fallbrook, CA User Rating: I served these for a family dinner around the time of my older sisters graduation from college. They were amazing!!!! I doubled the recipe and made two dishes. 6 people were dining that night and not a smidge of potatoes were left after we were done. And we had NY Steaks and salad!! 6 people, 2 dishes, you do the math!!! This recipe is awesome!!!! Awesome! 06/04/2008 at 03:46pm User: JANA from Palm Bay, FL User Rating: I made this last night. My husband looked a little frightened as he watched me put it together, but absolutely loved the result! We had plenty left over, so he wants more tonight. A wonderful dish and not difficult at all! not what i was expecting 01/06/2008 at 03:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: this recipe got such good reviews but truthfully i was very disappointed in it! it had a really bad texture and it was not very good. i could have done without the cabbage! Best ever scalloped potatoes 01/01/2008 at 01:51am User: michele from vacaville, CA User Rating: I was a little nervous about using cabbage in scalloped potatoes but I took it our annual family get together. Everyone loved it... even my daughter who doesn't even like scalloped potatoes. Thanks Tyler! Not "THE ULTIMATE", but quite good! 12/28/2007 at 11:08am User: Marty from Endwell, NY User Rating: While it does require a little prep time, the flavors come together nicely to give us a new way to serve potatoes. I automatically cut the recipe in half and still had a lot left over after serving dinner for four. That was OK because it's great reheated, too. I didn't think it was "The Ultimate Potato Gratin", but it was quite good. Great stuff 12/26/2007 at 08:24pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Made it for Christmas dinner for my husband and I. It made too much for both of us, of course, but I wanted to try the recipe. It turned out great, my husband said it was the best potato dish I've made (thanks Tyler!). In fact I thought that it tasted even better the second day as left-overs. I thought it was just my head cold playing tricks, but my husband agreed it was even better the second day. Weird. The only thing I should have done was use real parmesan, but I could only afford the cheap stuff...next time I might use sharp cheddar instead, or get the real parmesan, I'm sure it would have made it outstanding. SIMPLY AMAZING! 12/25/2007 at 09:36am User: Jennifer from Ballston Spa, NY User Rating: A must try! Delish! 12/21/2007 at 08:02pm User: H from Cameron Park, CA User Rating: This was the best! I followed the recipe exactly adn it came out great! I was skeptical about the cabbage, but it really made the dish. Everyone loved it and they had not idea that it was cabbage that gave it such a rich flavor. I will definitley be making this again. Delicious addition to our Holiday Mea. 12/08/2007 at 05:51pm User: Nancy e. from Longmont, CO User Rating: I have never been disappointed in Tyler's recipes and this is just another example. My family who is not too excited about potatoes loved the added cabbage and visa versa. Not a bite was left over so I made more for my husband who only got a teaser taste. I will be making it again for Xmas. Potato gratin 12/03/2007 at 03:38pm User: Alex from Swampscott, MA User Rating: Excellent recipe. I made it for the Thanksgiving and just had a little bite for myself to taste, it dissapeared too quickly. I used about 1/3 of the green cabbage's head, less parmesan and for the rest I followed the recipe exactly. I will definately make this again. Expected WAY more than I got 12/03/2007 at 11:32am User: Melinda from Evergreen Park, IL User Rating: I served this dish at Thanksgiving and it just wasn't what I had hoped for. For starters, I followed the instructions exactly as stated but the potatoes were still crunchy when I served them. I added shredded white cheddar and I think that is a must in this recipe (along with the Parm). I expected the cabbage and bacon flavors to come alive in this dish but they fell flat. No one even noticed the cabbage. I wouldn't make this again. Delicious dish 12/02/2007 at 11:09pm User: Marilyn from Pullman, WA User Rating: I made this recipe for Thanksgiving and it was a success. I made it without bacon because I had vegetarians among my guests. It is easy to make, creamy and delicious. I definitely recommend this. The Ultimate Potato Gratin Dinner Party 12/02/2007 at 04:01pm User: Patsy from Carbondale, IL User Rating: I took the Gratin potatoes to a Dinner Party and everyone wanted the recipe. My husband thought I was brave taking an untested dish to the party. The Beef Tenderloin was in the shadow's of this great dish. Great for a special event. Umm 11/26/2007 at 05:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I don't know about this. I was really excited about making this and I made it last night and no ONE liked it. I dunno if I made it wrong. I followed the recipe and I just didn't taste right, sorry. Or maybe it was just me but I come on here and get all kinds of recipes from this website and everything usually tastes awesome. But I am sorry this was pretty horrible. The "BOMB" Potato Gratin 11/26/2007 at 01:41pm User: Rose from Des Plaines, IL User Rating: Tyler, my boys are true American meat and potatoes kind of guys and these potatoes were such a hit this Thanksgiving dinner, I wanted something different from our traditional mash potatoes and your Potato Gratin was the "BOMB" as my son put it, there was nothing left, they were licking the dish, this dish has now become the "Ultimate" must have for our Thanksgiving dinners. Thank you Rose Des Plaines, IL Easy and Delicious 11/26/2007 at 12:06pm User: Gretchen from Steamboat, CO User Rating: This recipe was so easy, I baked it early in the morning and just heated it up for Thanksgiving dinner. It was flavorful and the cabbage added a little extra punch of flavor, texture and nutrition. It was also delicious reheated as leftovers! THE dish to die for!!! 11/23/2007 at 01:31pm User: Ericka from Wildomar, CA User Rating: Made this yesterday for Thanksgiving...oh my gosh...it's fabulous!!! Potato 911 11/23/2007 at 07:17am User: Mark from San Diego, CA User Rating: This is the first Thanksgiving that I have cooked. This dish came out killer best augratin ala potato. Very Tasty!!! Different kind a way to fix cabbage 11/22/2007 at 08:19pm User: Carolyn from Prairieville, LA User Rating: It was very good. Many people who were there really do not like cabbage but they could not even tell that cabbage was in the recipe. The Ultimate Potato Gratin 11/20/2007 at 08:21pm User: MILLIE from Graham, NC User Rating: Would give 10 stars if possible.Have made several times since I had seen on Tyler's first show of this. It is on menu for this Thanksgiving also. But Tyler needs to define ingredients. How much cabbage? head? 2 lb 4 lb. ? Slab bacon? You live in NYC you can go to speciality shop and get. You live in the triangle of NC you go and get a package of bacon. You must present your recipe to all markets not just the "big city". I will still give it a 10 because it is a wonderful, clog your arteries dish. The only saving Grace is the cabbage.Tyler, remember SC not NYC. Awesome 11/19/2007 at 06:54pm User: Deanna from Middleburg, FL User Rating: Awesome Yummy to my Tummy! 11/19/2007 at 02:40pm User: Cindy from Sacramento, CA User Rating: I was skeptical about the cabbage, but I followed the recipe as stated and I'm glad that I did because this was certainly The Ultimate Potato Gratin!! It's very creamy -Yummy and easy to make. Cozy Potatoe Gratin 11/17/2007 at 05:27pm User: Darlene from Creekside, PA User Rating: I liked it but it needs a knew name because with you everything is ultimate and that is not appealing and when you here cozy it reminds you of a nice warm night setting by the fire eating something delicious From Darlene Williams from Creekside PA Ultimate Says IT All 11/15/2007 at 03:47pm User: Sue from Virginia Beach, VA User Rating: If you are looking for a unique potato side-dish, this is the one. The combination of flavors just make your tastebuds come alive. Anyone made in advance?? 11/03/2007 at 06:42am User: Anonymous User Rating: Just wondered if anyone made this in advanced and reheated how it came out??? THANKS Pretty Good 10/24/2007 at 12:13am User: Mirielle from Dallas, TX User Rating: I made my own potato gratin recipe last week and it was sooo good but then I decided to try an actual potato gratin recipe and tried this one. Of course I did my own twist on it and didnt use the cabbage(never been a fan), I used yellow onions instead and topped it with crushed pecans and bread crumbs. Not bad if I may say so myself. I really loved Tyler's addition of bacon although it was reminiscent of a baked potato. I think next time I try this Ill use a different kind of cheese, maybe 3 or 4 different kinds! Loved It 06/01/2007 at 08:30am User: Anonymous User Rating: I really loved this recipe, but it gave the rest of my family really bad gas. whose your daddy 04/06/2007 at 02:58pm User: Mark from Poulsbo, WA User Rating: Christmas dinner 2006: Followed recipe exactly and received a standing ovation! Making it again for Easter with ham and intend on using 50/50 parmesan and cheddar. I used the ultimate party planner at Christmas: Turkey 5.0 flavor 3.0 appearance (when bacon is removed looks like a martian head ie: no browning/sage butter); Sauteed green beens 5.0 accross board; potatoes as stated; candied carrots 5.0; and spiced apples w/ raisins (served cold) 5.0. Thank You Tyler! Got so many compliments (12 people) I went out and bought a set of All-Clad. Awesome! 03/03/2007 at 06:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My husband and I grilled steaks (our favorite) and made this to go with it. We didn't finish eating the steaks, but we still went back for more potato gratin. Fantasic! Made this recipe two different ways...... 02/11/2007 at 11:36pm User: Wanda from Orlando, FL User Rating: 1.) exactly as written, including the cabbage and 2.) without the cabbage, as I was just too afraid that my daughter would not touch it with the cabbage addition... I'm not sure what I did wrong but with the recipe made exactly as written, I ended up with a greasy mixture floating all around between the layers which left it VERY unappealing. The taste was okay, as I happen to love cabbage, but the sogginess and oiliness kept me from enjoying the dish as written. The second casserole which I made without adding the cabbage was fine...not something that I'd rate a "5", but certainly not as bad as the original. I always enjoy Tyler's recipes and I have to believe that I goofed somewhere, especially after reading all of the other rave reviews. even my kids loved this 02/04/2007 at 12:15pm User: Catherine from Cotati, CA User Rating: my kids didnt even notice the cabbage. had this for Christmas and was wonderful and tasty! FANTASTIC! 01/29/2007 at 12:39am User: Janet from St. George, UT User Rating: The addition of the savoy cabbage and bacon layer was definitely the way to go. All of the flavors blended nicely and the Parmesan topping provided a nice crunch to the finished dish. This is sure to become one of my family's favorite dishes. They are already asking me to make it again SOON. It is defintely an ULTIMATE! Out of this world 12/24/2006 at 03:27pm User: STACIE from Orlando, FL User Rating: I wasn't sure what the bacon would taste like but this was the ultimate potatoes I have ever had. Of course with the heavy cream and the bacon grease, it is not low calorie but for once in a while dish it is fantastic!! Crowd Pleaser 12/12/2006 at 08:48am User: Jaclyn from Woolwich Twp, NJ User Rating: This dish is so rich that I generally only make it once or twice a year. However, now I am famous for it! There is not ONE person who doesn't fall in love with this dish! Yummy 12/11/2006 at 10:33pm User: Anne from Boise, ID User Rating: So easy and delicious. We cooked it in a dutch oven outside..GREAT RECIPE! New Thanksgiving Favorite! 12/02/2006 at 03:44pm User: A from West Hills, CA User Rating: Everyone loved this dish. Just as others have stated they were unsure about the cabbage, so was I. But I made the recipe as stated and even the kids went back for seconds! Next time I make it, I will not use the caggabe and just sprinkle the bacon between the layers due to the fact that a few family members do not tolerate cabbage or veggies that can cause gas! LOL It was well worth the calories though! Thank you Tyler! Easy, Fast & great 11/27/2006 at 03:40pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The ultimate potato gratin is very easy to make it doesn't take that much ingredients and is a wonderful recipe to get out of the daily routine of bake, broil potato that we usually make... The best I have ever made 11/18/2006 at 09:27am User: Ray from Oceanside, CA User Rating: friends came by and this potato dish knock there socks off. Very rich and creamy Wow! 11/17/2006 at 12:11pm User: Chris from Houston, TX User Rating: Easy to cook and what a great dish that is full of flavor! |
