The recipie online calls for 1.5 hrs cooking time but on the show, Sandra says 2.5 hours cooking time. I cooked it for 2 hours and it came out perfect - especially the potatoes. We ate this as leftovers as well and it really reheats nicely - just reheat the biscuits in the oven and the casserole in the microwave.

We liked pot pie. I used different veggies and potatoes. The flavor was good. Need to watch time, just until potatoes are done. I'll need to increase the soup or add a little milk. But on the whole we likes it.

This recipe came out perfect for me. Knowing that 1-1/2 hours seemed to long, I cut it back to 1 hour added the biscuits and then cooked it the additional 18 minutes. Baked it in a greased 9x13" baking dish. The potatoes were perfect and the biscuits were not mushy.

Dreadfully Overcooked

User: Berneece from Alpine, NJ    User Rating:
I think this might have been good if it had cooked for a lot less time. There's relly no reason to cook it for so long -- it made all the ingredients disintegrate and become mushy. I also think it needs more seasoning. If I try it again, I'll probably just cook it till its hot and the biscuits are done.

Very Good

My husband loved this meal. He ate almost three plates of it. I thought that it was good and pretty easy. I would only suggest maybe adding a little more seasoning and you could also used cream of chicken with other soups like cream of celery for a little kick. But it really is good just the way it is.

Tasted good but......

Chicken Pot Pie.......

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I made my pie with chicken since I did not have turkey on hand I omitted it. I took the advise of the other cooks here. I cut the cream of chicken to only one can. I also added some of my own seasoning like the chicken boullion powder and some garlic powder, and I only cooked it long enough to cook the potatoes about 45 min. I then baked for another 12-15 min. with biscuits atop. Everyone enjoyed it as well as I did.

I omitted the cooked chicken, and used 1 1/2lb (instead of 1lb) uncooked chicken breast. I used 1 1/2 tsp of the seasoning (rather than 1 tsp). Cut the chicken and potatoes proportionately. The recipe is quick, easy and very popular in my household!

User: CAROLYN from Allentown, PA    User Rating:
I read the reviews and watched the show. I actually followed the reciped carefully except I added extra grill seasoning and used fresh onion (store didn't have frozen). I thoroughly thawed the vegetables so there was no extra water. I cut everything "bite-sized" which is probably closer to 1 inch cubes. Potatoes were done. We had 3 children guests for dinner and they loved it. It went over well with all the adults too. I'll make it again sometime this winter.

I never tried the original recipe that was dubbed "mushy" and "tasteless" by many since I'm a working mom and I try to adjust recipes to work with a slow cooker. I used Emeril's Essence for the seasoning, leftover turkey (good after Thanksgiving recipe)and cooked it in a slow cooker on low while working. I finished it off in the oven with the biscuits and it had a nice firm texture and was quickly devoured by the family.

Every single ingredient was overcooked to the point of disintegration. The filling was a greyish salty gravy in which you could not distinguish any of the ingredients, as they had basically liquified. We all found that really unpleasant.

You shouldn't cook it for so long
10/31/2006 at 02:21pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I made this pot pie the other day and though the flavor was good, the texture was not. Because the meat and vegetables had been precooked, cooking it in the oven for 2 hours made it come out the disintegrated texture of baby food. Also, there was too much sauce, which made it runny. I made it a second time and left out the potatoes and used only one can of soup. I topped the pot pie with the biscuits and cooked it in the oven only for as long as it took for the biscuits to be done. Maybe 20 minutes. The result was a thick, rich and delicious filling, which was hot and fully cooked without being mealy, topped by tender biscuits. Much better than the original recipe. I am not sure why this particular recipe suggests cooking it for so long. Not only is that not needed, but will seriously detract fromthe quality of the pot pie. I gave this recipe three stars.

My vegetables weren't crunchy at all either. Thanks to Sandra Lee for this wonderful idea.

I like being able to cook something quick and easy, but to me this recipe is the kind you don't cheat on. I found that the pie didn't have the favors I was looking for and also tasted like it just came out of the freezer. I recommend the "Slimmed Down" chicken Pot Pie recipe by Food Netword Kitchens. It isn't hard to make and uses fresh veggies, chicken and phyllo dough for the crust. It has lots of spices to give it a good hardy chicken pot pie taste with less calories!!

It was okay. The bottom side of the biscuits didn't cook all the way, even when the tops were a golden brown. I flipped them over and cooked it for an additional 5 minutes, which ruined the aesthetic appeal of the dish. It was easy to prepare and cheap to make, which is why I gave it three stars. In a pinch its good, but I would try a different pot pie recipe in the future...

I tried this recipe but it did not say whether the potatoes should be cooked or raw. I added them raw and they were still hard when the cooking time was over. My suggestion is to boil them first to soften them. Also, the recipe did not say whether the turkey breast should be cooked or raw as was specified with the chicken. I wasn't sure what to buy, so ended up getting sliced turkey breast from the deli. Please clarify the recipe for future cooks. Thank you. Mary - Sebring

My teenage son doesn't like traditional pot-pie and he LOVED this! He said the biscuits tasted like chicken and dumplings and he loves that! This was really excellent!

Everyone loved the biscuits and the combination of chicken and turkey so yes I was the throwdown queen of the chicken potpie. I will definitely make this again. Instead of red potatoes I used frozen potatoes just a handfull or so and used a 1/2 can of chicken broth.

Made the pot pie last night. On the upside is was pretty easy. It came out a little dry and I didn't cook as long as recommended. It was kind of bland. It just wasn't anything special. You can tell out our house that something was good if there are no leftovers, and there were plenty of plates half eaten. I might try a homemade pot pie again but not this exact recipe.

I par-boiled the potatoes (for 10 min) before adding them to the mixture for baking. Since I did not have the chicken seasoning in the house, I subbed with Dried Ranch Dressing from a packet. I think that did the trick to hide the "canned soup" flavor. I baked the whole thing for 45 minutes BEFORE I topped with the biscuits. My family gobbled it up. We will use it again.

I tried this last night, and after reading some of the reviews on here, I was quite nervous. However, I'm glad I read them first because I took some of the helpful hints and applied them. I used only chicken (4 boiled boneless, skinless bagged chicken breasts), 1 medium potato, only 1 3/4 cans of cream of chicken, only 3/4 bag of veggies (peas and carrots only), 1/2 fresh cut onion...everything else I followed the recipe. I baked it for approx. 1 hr 15 min before adding the biscuits. Then I baked it for another 15 min. It came out almost perfect! The only problem was that the biscuits in the middle row were not done on the bottom. My husband normally will not eat pot pie, but he actually liked this recipe! I think one reason everything came out so nicely is that my veggies were completely thawed when I added them.

Mom likes it because it's a quick fix. Dad likes it because the vegetables taste good. It's good for my children (who are toddlers) because everything tastes good and everything is smushy :-). I have adapted this recipe to use as a frozen entree meal as well. I just use frozen, diced potatoes (I used fresh the first time and they turned brown) instead of the fresh red potatoes. Then I put the mixture in a dish and freeze overnight. I put it in two smaller 5 X 9 pans to get two meals for four. After it's frozen, I take it out of the dish and place it into ziploc bags. Remember when you thaw them to put them back in the dish! Then follow the recipe as directed. Thanks Sandra! I would LOVE to see more quick fix/frozen entree meals & recipe ideas!

I used 98% fat free Cream of Chicken and it turned out great! I only cooked it for about an hour and then added the biscuits for another 20 minutes. I also added some more frozen veggies to pump it up. I think you just need to cook it until the potatoes are done and then eat. It turned out great that way. My husband loved it!

Good on a cold night!

This recipe tastes just like those frozen pot pies (except for the biscuit topping). Also, I used a rotisserie turkey breast instead of the chicken/turkey mix. I will make this recipe again!

Loved it

I thought that this was just alright. A bit boring. I think some chopped celery would be quite good.

Easy quick and tastes good.

I had leftover chicken and turkey and was looking for something to do with it. This was the answer. It's easy and satisfied the whole family. I would probably precook the rolls a bit, the bottom didn't cook and I cooked longer than 18 minutes.

This recipe is simple to make. I like that I can get it mixed up and just put it in the oven and then I can go about my other business and just know that my family is going to have a filling and nutricious dinner. And having the Grands Biscuits on top-they are a huge selling point to my boys.

Simple dinner

I have to admit I used this recipe theoretically and prepared my own version of it (I credit Food Network for giving me theory and confidence to put together my own creations). I used 2 cups of cooked chicken, 1 cup of frozen mixed veggies, 1 large russet potato (microwaved 5 min and chopped to match the size of veggies), 3 strips of Oscar Meyer ready-to-serve bacon chopped, 1 can each of cream of chicken and cream of celery soup. I added poultry seasoning, thyme, and fresh ground pepper. I heated everything covered for about 45 minutes (using the baking sheet as I believe it diffused the heat and prevented scorching), added the biscuits and cooked for another 13-15. My husband LOVED it, it had lots of flavor, and we have leftovers for tonight. I would have never tried anything like this, thanks Sandra Lee!!

Good if you alter a little

This is really a good recipe, I think. But different directions are needed. I cooked my chicken and vegetables first, then added the soups. The only cooking that was needed was for the biscuits on top. It was simply delicious and I will definitely use it again and again. Oh, I did forget the potatoes, but they are not really needed.

excellent

very good. I did find that there was not enough juices to share with all the goodies. maybe by added another can of cream of chicken and can of water and add water or star to thicken. Just a thought, but I will try this next time I bake it. But great... fast.. and I added ham instead of turkey Cheryl

EXCELLENT!!!!!

I had been making the same Chicken Pot Pie recipe for years. This one is my families new favorite. I made a change. Instead of adding turkey, I used all chicken and made it even easier for myself, bought a whole rotisserie chicken from the deli at the grocery store. I skinned and torn the chicken into pieces. The leftovers are just as tasty. YEAH SANDRA ON THIS ONE!!!

Smaller Version Worked!

I left out the potatoes, but added about 2 T. cooked rice, only one can of cream soup, one cup of cooked chicken, half a cup of sour cream and some salt pepper and essence.baked for 45 min., then added pepper biscuits for another 15 minutes. It was delicious, but should have cut the biscuits in half or made more filling. (Could have used the rest of the biscuts for strawberry shortcake!) Reheating the next day was pretty much "biscuity". A REALLY easy recipe! Will try next time with no bisuits, just top with cracker crumbs and pepper!

I changed so much in this recipe I will try to get it all down. I used 1 pound of chicken only, combined 1/2 of her veggie suggestion with 1/2 of an asian blend, gave a little crunch to final product. Omitted potatoes and Grill Mates. Used 1 can of Cream of Broccoli and Cream of Chicken. Added some dried thyme, garlic powder and black pepper. After final final stirring I topped it with some shredded cheese. I also topped the bisquits with some pamsean cheese. Cooked it at 400 F.

very good

I made a few changes to this recipe. I used crossants not buscuits. It made the top more buttery. And I did not used onions. It came out great.

I thought this was very good...however I would cook my potatos before hand when I make it again. For some reason my potatos were not done after 2 hours of cooking. Other than that it was very tasty.

MUSHY

The meat and veggies were very mushy and overcooked by the time the potatoes got done. The spuds should probably be precooked. Frozen would work well. The pot pie's mushy, sloppy texture was a huge drawback.
