Expat in the Netherlands

I made this recipe last night as part of dinner. My husband, had never had stuffing before he married me, now adores any kind of stuffing and finds it to be a real treat when I make it. He was very intrigued by this one and thought it was fabulous. He kept commenting on the dish, as cornbread is just unheard of here in Holland, so it was different for him. The recipe is easy and straight forward. The stuffing was very flavorful with the perfect mix of flavors. I did make a couple of changes. I made my own cornbread for this recipe, with cornmeal I hauled back to Holland my last trip home. I also added some chopped celery for a little more texture. Since I did not roast a whole turkey, I placed the stuffing in a baking dish and baked at 325F for about 30 minutes, covered. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thank you Tyler for another fantastic recipe.

This was my first time to ever make Christmas dinner and I used this stuffing recipe. I am a very pickey eater and don't like most peoples stuffing. When I saw this one it sounded perfect. I was right! It was the very best part of the whole meal. *I couldn't find the large cornbread muffins so I bought jiffy muffin mix and large muffin pan and made my own.

Delicious!

Loved this stuffing! The cream and carmelized onions must be the secret! My husband doens't care for stuffing and he loved it! Has actually asked me to make it again! I added a little more liquid (cream and broth) to make sure it wasnt too dry.

Great Stuffing

This was a great stuffing. I used a sweet cornbread mix which I think complemented the sweet carmelized onions very well. It tastes even better as a left over.

Everyone will love this

I made this for thanksgiving and everyone loved it in fact my mom and aunt asked for the recipe and made it for Christmas dinner. Both time there were no leftovers, which is partially because it does not make a much dressing as you are used to. If you like leftovers you may want to double the recipe but I promise everyone will love it.

Might depend on the corn muffin/bread you use

Everyone thought this stuffing was fantastic, I used our local supermarket's bakery corn muffins which are great on their own and tasted amazing as the base for the stuffing, so I think this stuffing might just be allright if you make your own cornbread but really great if you use a bakery's corn muffins.

Great flavor, but a little too dry

User: Denise from Blue Springs, MO    User Rating:
It's quite possible i used a little too much cornbread, but the results were a little drier than we are used to with our traditional stuffing. Despite that, this was very flavorful and still got eaten up. If I made it again, I would cut down on my cornbread ratio and double the recipe (1 batch did not make very much).

A bit dry, needed crunch

User: S from Bloomington, IN    User Rating:
This stuffing was okay, but I probably won't fix it again. I ended up adding celery and some walnuts for "crunch" and to increase the visual appeal. Though it was easy, it just wasn't as good or moist as the walnut and apple stuffing I usually fix.

Simple and awesome

This is a keeper. I did add more stuff like 1 celery choped really really small and 1/2 carrot choped really really small and this was a hit. It was simple but that is what made it so good.

definite winner

this was the first cornbread stuffing i'd ever made. i did notice that some of the other reviews here made mention of celery. i also felt it should be included, and i also added sliced mushrooms sauteed in butter. it was awesome. enjoy!

FANTASTIC STUFFING

User: Karen from Basking Ridge, NJ    User Rating:
I was brave and tried this for the first time at Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone RAVED about it (and my father never likes anything he hasn't had 20 times before). Everyone agreed that not only was this a keeper but it should be made again for Christmas. I did do a few things differently; I added celery (2 stalks), doubled the butter for sauting the onions & celery, and tripled the chicken stock because I was not stuffing it into a bird. Extra liquid is definitely needed otherwise it is a little on the dry side. Thanks Tyler for a GREAT recipe!

Love this stuffing!!!

This is a wonderful recipe. I added 2 diced pears this year as well as a cup of fine herb bread crumbs as it seemed a bit loose on its own. I've also made it with Vidali onions, which sweetens it up a bit. Bake in a shallow pan and it's perfect for adding to post-feast sandwiches, which, let's face it, is the best part of Tday.

Tyler comes through, as always!

I am ever the skeptic when it comes to new recipes. I have a true disdain for traditional stuffing recipes, so I was hesitant to make this dish. I forged ahead and stuck mostly to the recipe. I did, however, add a tiny bit more cream, as my mixture seemed a smidge dry. The final product was fabulous. I found myself going back for a second helping and heating up leftovers the next day. I'll definitely make this recipe again.

Stuffing is usually an afterthought for me at Thanksgiving but this recipe was relatively simple and tasty. My family scarfed it up. My only complaint is that the recipe didn't make as much as I thought. You could easily double this recipe and have enough for leftovers.

Tyler does it again! A great recipe that simplies dressing without losing the flavor. Everyone wanted the recipe. Made 2 batches and doubled the chicken stock because it was too dry. On a rainy day might not be necessary. Also, I had just cooked bacon and I used 1 TB of the drippings to cook the onions, and it enhanced the flavor. Wouldn't have done that exvept at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it's only once a year! This is a recipe I will keep and make for years. Wonderfully simple and delish!!

The best dressing EVER.

I'm not usual a fan of stuffing or dressing. But I LOVED this recipe. It was really simple to make(perfect since I was cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner). It came out crispy but moist. I did double it though. The recipe says it yeilds 6-8 servings but my 7 people ate almost 2 batches of the stuff! My uncle, who I've NEVER heard give one compliment to anyone(even my mom who cooks the best food),gave me a thumbs up on the dressing. It was delicious!

just a couple of questions
11/21/2007 at 05:09pm

While I liked the dressing, I have a couple of questions. How much do 6 large cornbread muffins weigh? I looked at several markets, but none of them carried muffins or even cornbread so I made cornbread from a package but don't know if I had the correct amount. I baked it in a dish but wasn't sure if it was enough to stuff a 10 to 12 lb turkey. All in all, a good dressing so I will try it again.

So good!

I tried this out before making it for Thanksgiving. This was so good! The changes I made were 1.) used Jiffy cornbread mix, baked in a 8-inch pan, cubed when still warm. 2.) used an extra onion. I didn't think it really needed anything extra (maybe a little more liquid...). For Thanksgiving, I'll be making it with bacon chunks. Mmmm...can't wait!

Tyler's Stuffing just rocks!

As usual, Tyler perfects the combo of down home comfort food w/ some nice twists. This is still easy but much tastier and more savory than other cornbread dressings which can be too dry and dull. Give it a try if you're looking for compliments on Thanksgiving day!

For years I have slaved away making dressing for the turkey. I will never do that again. This dressing is absolutely fantastic and the fact that you can make it ahead of time is incredible. I made this a couple of days early and also made gravy a la The Barefoot Contessa's make-ahead recipe and I was ALL SET to put dinner on the table instead of scrambling around at the last minute.
