These were okay, but I probably wouldn't make them again. I didn't particularly enjoy the crust.

This recipe looked soo good on the picture. It said to only use the broiler for 2 mins. I took mine out after only 1 minute and they had already started to burn. I would make this without the marshmallows since you couldn't even cut the brownies without the marshmallows sticking to everything.

gooooie goodness...

I made these for a dessert contest at work and I won. They were sooo good. I did make a few changes though. I used double the graham crackers and put in in a 13x9 pan. I also cut the marshmellows in half or else they would have toppled over the top. Just a reminder...the marshmellows expand.

Now THIS is a S'mores Brownie!!

User: null from null, null    User Rating:
This is the best s'mores brownie I've made so far! I didn't have any issues with the crumbs not sticking together--I pressed them in and baked the full 20 minutes. Also, I used large marshmallows and placed them 1/2 inch from the edge of the pan--I baked my batch in a 9 x 9 pan and placed 16 marshmallows on top--each brownie got a marshmallow when I cut them into squares. I pressed them down a bit after they baked so they were slightly flattened but still very poofy. ALSO, always use a PLASTIC knife when cutting brownies and they'll never stick. This won rave reviews at our July 4th picnic!!

great!

I made the following modifications to the recipe when i made them. I used a 13X9 pan, and i used self rising flour (because that's what i have in my cupboard right now). Based on the other reviews, i cut my marshmallows in half, and i sprayed down the pan with baking pam instead of using foil. I did not have the removing problems like others have had, and I didn't light my marshmallows on fire (i watched them toast through the oven window). I only had a little trouble cutting them, but it wasn't anything to negatively review this recipe over. My advice is to not put the marshmallows too close to edges, and to use the halves. These turned out fanstastically.

This is a great way to do something absolutely deliscous, but without the wait or campfire. This way, you can serve them right away and they aren't so messy. This is something you can enjoy all year round, not just in the summer!

User: Liz from Greenwich, CT    User Rating:
the taste of these was delicious-even better the next day after everything had "sunk in" a little bit. i can see why others might find them messy...i tore the big marshmallows in half and they still made them difficult to cut. the graham cracker bottom is crumbly but it didn't affect the taste. if you don't mind a messy, crumbly dessert, these are well worth it for the yummy smores flavor! great w/ coffee for breakfast.

User: Danielle from Tustin, CA    User Rating:
I follow the recipe exactly and the result is always perfectly moist brownies! These brownies could actually be served on a plate. My advice is, don't skimp on the chocolate. Use the best you can find. I like to cut the brownies and place them on cookie sheets before broiling the marshmallows. They are a little less messy that way!

I was very disappoined with this recipe. i think the outcome was disgusting, and while it was a good idea in theory, the end result was not appetizing. i followed the recipe exactly, and i can not understand why you are supposed to bake it in foil. for cleaning purposes, yes, but it changed the outcome completely. i was really excited to try this recipe, but now i am stuck with a pan of these unappetizing brownies.

User: Sarah from Atlanta, GA    User Rating:
The crust turned out perfectly with 1 full stick of butter. I did not have any problems with the marshmallow sticking properly to the brownie. However, the brownie part itself was DRY and flavorless. I will attempt to make these again, maybe using more sugar/less flour. If you are looking for interesting, easy, and delicious brownies, I'd recommend Paula Deen's Creme de Menthe Brownies - yum!

When done correctly these brownies are superb! It should be noted, however, that if you place the brownies too close to the broiler the marshmallows will catch fire before you know what happened!

No Flavor
03/05/2008 at 12:49pm
User: Heather from Phoenix, AZ    User Rating:
Per other reviews, I made the suggested changes, using additional butter in the crust and preparing a box recipes of brownies rather than go to the trouble of making my own from scratch. Overall, these had little to no flavor - and they especially didn't taste like s'mores. I even took these to work to "get rid of them" and they ended up going in the trash. A good idea in theory but I would not make this recipe again.

Too Gooey

I made this with my 7-year old, who of course preferred the marshmallow over the rest of the brownie. Next time I will use a 13x9 pan so the brownies aren't so thick and I will also use mini-marshmallows. I also used a box mix for the brownies.

User: megan from fairfax, VA    User Rating:
the brownies were extremeley bland and dry. The crust failed to stay together most of the time. The marshmellows came out nicely on top and did give a s'more look and smell right out of the oven. However, I would use box brownie mix next time if i were to even make this recipe again.

Love it!!

User: Janine from New Lexington, OH    User Rating:
Love this recipe!! The only thing I would change is to use regular butter for the crust. We went through these in no time. They were just awesome. Believe Paula when she says you have to watch it under the broiler. I burnt mine, but just scraped off the black. These are also great warmed up, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Mmmmmm!!

YUM-O
02/12/2008 at 02:59pm
User: Erin from Philadelphia, PA    User Rating:
I saw that I few people complained that the brownies were a little dry, I mistakenly used dark brown sugar and my brownie was sooo moist, you might even say they were wet. I didn't measure the marshmallows and I used an entire bag of regular marshmallows, I don't reccomend it!! Measure the marshmallows, if it's more then a bag don't use them all. I like marshmallows so I didn't mind, but I had an immense amount of marshmallows everywhere. All in all, an amazing recipe, I will make this again very soon!

I thought these brownies were going to be VERY good, but what a disappointment! The crust was very crumbly, it didn't even form into a crust really. The brownie itself was very dry and not very flavorful. The marshmallows were much too big and didn't stick to the brownie at all. Terrible consistency and taste overall.

Room for Improvement!
01/31/2008 at 12:33pm
User: Heidi from Brookfield, WI    User Rating:
Good idea, but lots of room for improvement. The crust and scratch brownie are too dry. Everthing crumbles when you cut them up. The marshmallows need to either be cut in half or the minis used. I would also use a box brownie next time rather than making scratch. I think either more butter, or less graham cracker crumbs are in order. Too much crust, too hard.

Good stuff but LOOK OUT!

After making a few revisions, this was great. I added more butter to the crust as well as cutting 1/4c flour and adding some chopped pecans. I also used semi-sweet chocolate and mini marshmallows. Bake time was longer than listed, but I didn't really keep track. Use common sense and keep your eye when toasting the marshmallows. A couple more hints 1. butter the edge and sides again prior to toasting marshmallows 2. Let cool completely before cutting - then zap each serving for just a few seconds in the microwave before serving.

S'mores brownies are a hit!

User: sandi from miami, FL    User Rating:
I've made these brownies about 1/2 a dozen times with my kids. I've used the original recipe and also used a package brownie mix. I've even made them in a muffin tray lined with muffin paper, which was fantastic and so much easier than lifting the entire brownie out of the baking dish. The brownie muffins traveled very well in lunch boxes, were easy to store and stayed fresh for several days.

I thought these brownies sounded so good. However, the graham crackers fell off the bottom, even after adding extra butter. I thought the actual taste of the chocolate brownie was terrible and overpowering...I have had much better. I will NOT be making these ever again and my husband and I after having one brownie each, put the rest in the trash.

Looks good but DRY and DULL!
01/13/2008 at 09:43pm
User: tiffany from highland, UT    User Rating:
I should have read the reviews before making these! The picture made them look SO good but we just ate them and my children would not even finish their brownie! If I made these again I would use more butter in the crust; semi sweet chocolate; AND MINI MARSHMALLOWS.. and instead of sticking them under the broiler.... just stick them back in under the 350 for a bit! Sticking them under the broiler nearly caught them on fire and did not melt them enough to be gooey. Also don't listen to the directions when it comes to the toothpick... I waited until the toothpick came out clean and that was WAY too long! If you like gooey brownies take them out way before the toothpick is clean! So maybe with these changes it might be a better brownie, I just wish I had the one in the picture!!

I love this recipe with a few minor changes. I changed the temp to 300 degrees due to the way my oven cooks and they came out very moist. I also added 2 more tablespoons of butter to crust. The crust did not break or crumble and had an excellect taste. I used mini marshmallows and browned them in the oven instead of the broiler for 5 mins. I also cut back on the time to cook the brownies due to the more time to melt the marshmallows. Overall it was excellent. The next day they were still excellent. I would recommend recipe to all, but with changes based on oven used. etc.

The Best Brownies Ever!!

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
These brownies are so delicioso! I wanted to bake the brownies in a 13x9 pan instead of an 8x8 pan, so I did a recipe and a half to fill the pan. That way, you get a cornacopia of brownies! The crust is a little crumbly, but the actual brownie blows boxed brownies away! My advice is to watch the marshmellows while they broil; no one likes burnt marshmellows on top of a delectable brownie! These brownies were a huge hit, and they were gone quickly!

I made a large pan to keep at home and small individuals in a muffin pan to take to a get together. They turned out great and tasted just like a s'more! Definitely heed the warning DO NOT WALK AWAY WHEN YOU PUT THE MARSHMALLOWS ON!!! I thought this recipe looked FABULOUS...and then i made it. i found that the brownie just didn't stand up to the rest of it, not chocolate-y enough (for me) and the crust was really crumbly. so overall, better in concept than reality. but probably still a fun one for kids!

I liked the idea of this recipe but it just didn't turn out like I hoped. The brownie portion was pretty dry. They are also pretty dificult to eat. I didn't like how this turned out actually. I got the brownie mix premade, by Ghiradelli. This mix is not very good. In fact, very dull surprisingly! The marshmallows, which were store brand, were not good either. Overall, I didn't like it because of the ingredients I bought, so next time I'll try the actual mix in the recipe. Important note though- if you're going to make a brownie, it has to be rich and chocolaty! And be careful with the marshmallows... they make or break the deal.

I found that the brownie was very dry using the required time and may also be due to the gram cracker crumbs. I would I played around with the recipe and took one egg away and added some sour creme. This added the moisture and also made the brownie a gooier like a real smoore. This is only a personal preference.

I made this recipe but haven't yet tried it. I read some other reviews since making it and found that others had the same thing happen. 2 minutes is way too long. When it says keep a close eye on it don't walk away from the stove. I would recommend cooking it with the oven door open. The first time i put the brownies in it caught on fire. Luckily I had a water bottle around to put it out. After that I peeled off burnt marsh mellow and put it in with the oven door open and I managed ok.

These were delicious brownies. I didn't have unsweetened chocolate so I used the semi-sweet chunks I had, which may have been better since I read reviews that said it wasn't sweet enough. I thought it turned out pretty good; however, they didn't stay very fresh long--they dried up soon. But, about 10 seconds in the microwave was enough to make them gooey agagin :)

I think the graham craker crust needs a little more butter (or oil) to let the crumbs stick together better. In addition, the brownie parts needs either semi-sweet chocolate or more sugar. It might be easier to use marshmellow whip instead of whole marshmellows, or maybe the whip with small whole marshmellows sprinkled on top.

I made these for my family's Father's Day BBQ. I thought they'd be a hit beecause I make brownies all the time from scratch. Beware - do NOT put pan with marshmellows under the broiler like the receipe says for two minutes. My oven was up in flames within 15 seconds. So #1 - use and better tasting brownie recepie and #2 - use a culinary torch. Other than that, hopefully, yours will come out way better than mine. My family will never let me live it down... :0(

The graham cracker bottom was too loose. I would put in 1 fulls tick of butter or 1 and a half sticks. the top got really hard so when i put on the marshmallows, they rolled off. some stuck to the edge but i managed to cover the brownies somewhat well. The brownie batter was really good. It's a lot lighter than others.

Well the final product came out pretty tasty. But all the trouble was not worth it. First of all, after 60 minutes the middle of these were still practically liquid while the outside was hard and dried out. After adding the marshmallows, the brownies weren't even under the broiler for one minute before blowing up in flames. After peeling off the burnt marshmallow, and cutting off the dried up outside edges, these tasted pretty good, besides the fact that the crust tasted burnt from the extra time it spent in the oven. Most likely will not be making these again.

I just made this recipe, though I took the advice of many reviewers and modified a few things. I baked individual portions in cupcake cups. I used store-bought graham cracker crust - just crumble and press into the cups. I also used brownie mix (my mix of choice was Pillsbury Brownie Classics Traditional Fudge), and I baked at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. I then topped the brownies with mini marshmallows. Of course I had to taste them IMMEDIATELY after they were done, and they came out great! The only thing I'll do differently next time is make more than 12 - maybe 15. I had a little of the brownie batter left, even after almost filling the cups to the top. That way, the brownie won't bake up too high, and I'll have enough room for more marshmallows. I forgot that they expand a little and I had some falling off of the brownies!

Heaven. I used 8 tablespoons(1 stick) of butter initially so that there was more to slather on the foil and moisten the crust. I also used 3 cups of mini-marsh so it would be easier to cut and not catch fire. It cut easier with less goop to work through. Absolutely delicious.

I wanted to bring this dessert to a shower. The layers sounded great. After the first two layers were done placed the marshmallows on top of brownie (i think whole marshmallows are too tall, but anyway) I placed the pan under the broiler and 'browned' them. I let it set awhile and when I went to cut the 2" squares the marshmallow LIFTED OFF of the brownie!!!!! I didn't want to put the pan in the oven/broiler too long for 2nd attempt because I didn't want the brownies to dry out. Still could not cut squares without the marshmallow tops coming off. The flavor combination would have been delicious but the presentation to bring to a special event was out of the question. I really resented having to go to a bakery the next day to 'bring something' to the occasion after having committed to bring a dessert.

I actually took a short cut with this recipe and used a premade graham cracker crust (pie shape) and a box of brownie mix. I baked the brownie in the crust and then placed large marshmallows on top and placed it under the broiler for about a minute. They came out pretty good. A little messy to cut, but overall a nice treat. Great recipe to do with kids.

Tasty, but too tall!

I thought these were pretty good, and fairly easy to make. I used the double-boiler method for melting the chocolate & butter, since I don't always have good results melting chocolate in the microwave. I had to cook the brownie about 50 minutes for the toothpick to come out somewhat clean. I think next time I make this I will use less marshmallow and possibly cut each marshmallow in half so they still cover the top of the brownie, but aren't as tall. I like the suggestion in some other reviews to cut it into squares and just do the marshmallow part before serving; that will work better in my family of 2. Yum!

This is a good recipe up until you have to let them cool to eat. I would reccommend letting them cool completely BEFORE putting the marshmallows on.
