didn't care for it 06/28/2008 at 07:29pm User: Rebecca from San Antonio, TX User Rating: I love the concept of her show, but the recipes didn't turn out very well. The batter didn't bake well for me and that set off everything else in downward spiral (fish tacos). I didn't care for the chips either. I don't want to sound like some of the mean posts here, I just didn't like it. Wast of money 06/19/2008 at 11:41pm User: Pam from Cypress, TX User Rating: This was a really bad meal. It turned out nasty and I wasted a lot of money on fish that was not editable. not to bad 04/02/2008 at 07:21pm User: jofy from brookville, IN User Rating: This recipe is good, but does need some changes. I added some old bay seasoning to batter, and add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup beer to thin out, and dip fish in flour before baking. It was very good to use in the fish taco recipe that was aired the same day as this recipe. Not quite fish and chips 04/01/2008 at 11:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe wasn't terrible, but i would not really consider it fish and chips. The batter was very thick and needs some serious flavor, but it cook up ok and the taste wasn't bad, just not what i expected. good 03/31/2008 at 10:16pm User: amy from enon, OH User Rating: I'm glad I didn't listen to some of the reviews. Tried and loved. Maybe the one's that said how terrible is was don't know how to cook. Love Robin's show, she rocks!! Its great!!!! 03/31/2008 at 05:33pm User: Alecia from philadelpha, PA User Rating: This is the best!!! I made it for my moms birthday and she loved it...It was easy and cheep. Thanks! Healthy alternative to a fatty original 03/29/2008 at 01:06pm User: Dawn from North Haven, CT User Rating: I had to try this recipe after reading the terrible reviews. I added some Old Bay seasoning to the batter, floured the fish before battering it and baked the chips for an hour. What a super, light and healthy meal! Many raters were overly critical with unrealistic expectations. A healthy, baked alternative will never taste like the deep fried original. That's common sense, folks. Reality is healthy requires some compromise on a regular basis. If you're craving fish and chips, go get the deep fried variety but don't bash the chef who is trying to make healthier eating a priority. Kudos to a chef that doesn't require a fork lift to add seasoning to a recipe, allowing viewers more flexibility to adjust the seasoning to their specific taste. Robin has a great show for quick, healthy meals and provides a an innovative idea on how to leverage time spent in the kitchen and recreating "planned leftovers". For acid reflux suffers, many of her recipes are easily tolerated with only minor tweaks when red-zone spices are used (garlic, onions, tomatoe). Other chefs drown their recipes in butter or measure seasoning by the hand or "palm full". No amount of anti-acid is going to help you then. No No No 03/28/2008 at 11:18pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Save your time and money! How did some people give this recipe 5 stars? Maybe they have no taste buds? This is as far from traditional pub fish and chips that you can get anywhere. I can't get my husband to eat most of Robin's recipes, much less my children. As another reviewer stated, it is obvious that Robin is watching her calorie intake, but some things just need to be fried and fish and chips is one of them. I can't believe her show is still on the air. Just my opinion. Johnny B's Kitchen 03/28/2008 at 03:50pm User: Rick from Los Angeles, CA User Rating: This is so very good. Any one who loves fish, will love this dish. How on earth 03/28/2008 at 03:34pm User: Linda from Westerly, RI User Rating: Why would anyone try this recipe. It makes no sense to batter something and then oven fry it. It couldn't possibly work. I realize that she is watching her calorie intake, it is quite obvious, but the only way this would work would be to deep fry it. As Emeril always says there is bad frying and good frying. If your oil temp. is high enough the food will not be greasy. Don?t waste your time! 03/28/2008 at 03:22pm User: Susan from Albuquerque, NM User Rating: I think this recipe was disgusting. Most of Robin?s recipes need a lot of work. She just does not season her meals very well! Tasteless! Not a fan. Food Network should cancel her show! Wish I read the reviews... 03/17/2008 at 08:18pm User: Jessica from Baltimore, MD User Rating: The batter just looked wrong - I cooked anyways and it looks horrible. Wish I read these reviews first! It's alright 02/28/2008 at 02:14pm User: Jennifer from Huntley, IL User Rating: I seasoned up the batter a bit more and used halibut. It was fine. A healthy alternative to fried fish. Gross!! 02/19/2008 at 05:44pm User: Jessica from Abilene, TX User Rating: Breading was horrible. Way to thick and did not get crisp. The potatoes were ok. Fish & Chips 02/12/2008 at 11:09am User: Anonymous User Rating: Quick, easy and good. God awful 09/14/2007 at 09:41pm User: JOanne from Stormville, NY User Rating: This was absolutely a disgusting tasting dish. The batter was too thick and did not stick to the fish. The fish itself made me and my teenage son nauseous. My cat would not even eat it. Don't waste your ingredients trying to make it. Didn't work Fish 08/04/2007 at 04:43pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was not very good at all. Very bland Fish 'N' Chips 07/06/2007 at 09:08pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Chips needed longer to cook, but very good. I need to play with the batter. It is too thick, doesn't golden, and it needs more flavor. baked fish and chips 03/30/2007 at 02:50pm User: niarja from Mariposa, CA User Rating: easy, fast, delicious Easy but Bland 03/11/2007 at 03:16pm User: Tima from southaven, MS User Rating: I will admit this dish is very easy to prepare but the batter lacks taste. The crust did not get golden brown, it was either white (raw looking) or burnt. May try again adding my own flavors. Inedible 03/10/2007 at 02:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The batter on the fish was tasteless, had a poor texture and was inedible. The fish inside the batter was moist and well done. so sad 03/09/2007 at 12:20am User: STEPHANIE from scottsdale, AZ User Rating: I love Robin's show and how quick, easy and inexpensive most meals are but the fish was a disappoitment. The batter had a hard time sticking to the fish and didn't develop a good look after cooked nor any real flavor. Thankfull we pulled the breading off and enjoyed the fish plain with lemon. We liked it 03/08/2007 at 02:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Keep in mind I never have put a batter on fish before, I usually grill salmon, but I thought I would give this a try. I needed sour cream for my potatoes, & liked the dipping sauce with the fish. Not a favorite recipee, but it was nice to try something diffent & this was really easy to make. I don't like deep fried fish, but I thought this was good for my taste. I did have to cook the fish about 8 min. longer than recipee stated, & I didn't care for the taco recipee to use with the leftover fish. Tasteless tacos 03/07/2007 at 02:42pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The fish was probably embarrased by this presentation. Try frozen fish tenders and prepare as directed. This show should be called crock pot heaven..and even those recipes leave a lot to be desired. I turn off the Food Channel when she comes on. Completely Awful 03/07/2007 at 09:35am User: Patricia from 2014 Chaparral, TX User Rating: I wanted to like this recipe. Robin made it sound so good. However when I followed it here t home the crust was tasteless. This is nothing like the fish and chips I get at my local pub. I think the recipe needs some work. next please 03/06/2007 at 06:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This lacked in flavor and texture. Adding some herbs would have been nice and the outside wasn't even crispy. Bread crumb it! The worst baked fish ever 03/05/2007 at 08:33pm User: jo from Bloomington, IN User Rating: This is absolutely the worst baked fish recipe ever. I think the proportion of flour to liquid ingredients was wrong and there was absolutely no flavor whatsoever. What a waste of $10 worth of Cod! good for kids 03/04/2007 at 06:43pm User: Anonymous User Rating: my kids loved the fish. easy to make, and healthy. Didn't work for me 03/03/2007 at 06:06pm User: Susan from Hartford, CT User Rating: I cook cod/haddock 4-5 times a month and usually just spray the fillets and sprinkle crushed ritz or bread crumbs. I thought I would try this and the flour coating was too thick and I had to cook the fish 20 minutes. The potatoes needed an hour to cook. My oven might be off! |
