I made these to take to a party and was very pleased at how good they were! Very easy to make. I bet they would be good to freeze also. I highly recommend this :)

Not bad, not great

These tasted OK, but not great enough to warrant all the work and # of ingredients!! (And I love to cook!) I make sweet & sour meatballs using a bottle of ketchup, a can of whole berry cranberry sauce, a TBL of pre-minced garlic and a can of pineapple chunks (including juice.) Mix all these together, bring to a boil (dissolving the cranberry sauce in the process), dump in the de-frosted meatballs and simmer for about 1/2 hour until heated through. Tastes better than these, with so much less work!! Like I said, good, but not worth the mess & work.

This has sweet, sour, tangy and spicy notes. It's worth the effort to make these. They freeze and reheat extremely well, also.

thanks so much to e/o who reviewed this recipe before me,because i found the comments so helpful! i made meatballs from scratch, from 3 1/2 lbs ground meat (3 eggs, bbq sauce, flavored bread crumbs), and browned them in a large saucepan with a bit of oil first. i put in 2 cloves garlic with the onions, instead of 6. for the sauce: i used 4 C. hunts tomato sauce instead of all that ketchup. i used 1/2 c. brown sugar and 1/2 c. splenda. i used 3 Tbsp white vinegar, and NO BLACK PEPPER. after i put the pineapple chunks and onion/garlic/mustard mix on meatballs, i sprinkled the top with fresh ground black pepper and a generous squeeze ketchup. other than that, followed directions and baked acc. to recipe. they were AMAZING and i will DEFINITELY make them again!!!

fantastic

Too much pepper

User: P from Stoughton, WI    User Rating:
I doubled the meatballs, used Delmonte ketchup (it is less acidic), only 1/8 cup of vinegar and only used 1/2 tsp of black pepper. I didn't have cracked black pepper. These changes made all the difference...it was delicious!!

This one's a keeper!

As with any recipe, this is a great start but it can easily be tailored to your own preferences. Obviously, if you arent that crazy about garlic, then reduce it. Same is to be said for pepper. I personally used one cup less ketchup in the sauce and replaced it with 1 cp apricot preserves, and I added some minced green pepper to the mustard sauce. I only used four cloves of garlic instead of six and only half the pepper. I was making more meatballs than the recipe called for, so I just doubled the meatballs and left the same amount of sauce and it was the perfect amount. Then again, if you were serving this with lots of rice and you wanted to use the sauce as a gravy you might need that much! :) It was wonderful and I received lots of compliments on them, as I took them to a pot luck. I will definitely print this one for my recipe box! It was very tasty.

Great Sauce

I altered the recipe by making my own meatballs using ground sirloin. I browned them on the stove and put them in the slow cooker with this sauce recipe. I ccoked them on low for 4-5 hours. They were great. I made them for a Christmas party and I'm still getting compliments.

AWESOME!

I have made these meatballs a few times and everyone always loves them! It makes so much sweet and sour sauce that you can double your meatballs and still have plenty! It's a must make!

This recipe is a crowd pleaser. If you are looking for a no brainer make your friends think you slaved in the kitchen all day meal here it is. The best part is that this meal is very in-exspensive which means a lot to me. Add some white rice and you're good to go.

really good!

I made these for my husbands birthday party and they were a hit! They filled up so much on these that they were hardly hunger for dinner! I did use some refrigerated teriyaki meat balls (no sauce of course) instead of the frozen ones. However, it was the onions and the sauce that really made them good!

Very good.

User: Jamie from Lake Charles, LA    User Rating:
Very tasty. However, I did alter the recipe. First, cut the sauce in half, or you will have way too much left over. I used brown sugar and balsamic vinegar. I served the sauce over pasta along with the meatballs and some dinner rolls.

my family and I really enjoyed this recipe, I only used one quarter teaspoon instead of 2 tablesoons of black pepper. I also used one and one half the amount of mustard, but everything else was correct. Oh I used cider vinegar instead of white vinegar. If you like it sweeter just add a little extra sugar. I am very happy.

I had to make people feel bad to try them, because I wouldn't, lol ...They spit them out quicker than putting them in their mouth's!! Terrible Terrible ... you have to LOVE garlic to love these thing's ... I love Paula ... but NOT these meatballs ...

Too much ketchup taste

User: Cindy from Houston, TX    User Rating:
These meatballs had a nice flavor, once you got past the ketchup flavor! In my opinion, there was entirely too much ketchup taste in these meatballs. I would love to taste more of the mustard and pineapple, so next time I'm going to cut the ketchup down.

This recipe wouldn't have been bad if it had been called Sweet and Spicy Meatballs!!! Come'on!!! 2 tablespoons or pepper??!!! The sweet and sour taste is overpowered by the pepper!! Maybe it should have read 2 teaspoons of pepper (or even less)!!! Guess I'll have to keep looking for the perfect sweet and sour recipe!

Tasty

User: DAVID from Denver, CO    User Rating:
First, the recipe for the sauce makes WAY more than you need for a pound of meatballs - cut in half and you'll still have more than enough. Second, frozen meatballs will always taste like frozen meatballs. Like they say "you put put all the lipstick you want on a pig and it still be a pig."

I made these meatballs for a get together and they were a hit! Agreed, they are a bit on the spicey side and the recipe makes for a lot of sauce. However, they are really yummy! I will definitely make these again.

Disappointing.......

User: Kathleen from Yuba City, CA    User Rating:
The best thing I can say for this recipe is that it used up the catsup I had to buy a couple of months ago because friends with grandkids were coming. This had no subtlety and nothing pleasant for me or for my guests.

Too much sauce
03/22/2007 at 03:09pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I used a bag of meatballs- but it must have been smaller than the recipe called for because there was way too much sauce. I also thought it was a little too spicy for the kids, but okay for adults. I would cut the sauce in half next time. Not bad....
