Perfect for picnic dinner at Hollywood Bowl

This worked out great for pre-concert dining at Hollywood Bowl. Just keep in mind that you are opening a bottle of Prosecco to use 1/4 cup for the salad dressing. It's a wonderful vinagrette but better plan on drinking the bottle soon after or waste it when it goes flat! Oh! Also used chopped fresh basil in the cigars which added a lot!!

I find it hard to work with the dough. Maybe a pasty shell would be easier. Putting the cheese and sun dried tomatoes in the middle and topping with another pasty shell. Or possible a biscuit dough rolled out. I need to add a lot of cheese but when I did it tasted great. I did not like the big bite of sun dried tomatoes so I put them in a food grinder and then spread the tomatoes on top of the cheese

Saturday night appetizers

These were so good and so easy. I made them on a Saturday for my husband and I while the kids ate dinner. We put them to bed while they cooked in the oven and relaxed and enjoyed. I would definitely make again. As my husband says "that one is a keeper."

Forget the Phyllo - use Crescent Rolls

I don't particularly care for flaky phyllo dough and the sheets are way too greasy with all the butter brushed on them. I used a refrigerated reduced fat crescent roll package, rolled out into a rectangle instead of making crescent rolls and used half the amount of smoked mozzarella as it is very powerful and a bit much. Overall it turned out great, the sun dried tomatoes were juicy and cooked up like preserves and I will serve to guests as appetizers or as finger foods but I personally didn't care for the flavor that much.

Great, but rich...

These are fabulous! Just beware, you can eat more of them than you should. They're kind of rich. When making them, I found that buttering only one half of the phyllo makes folding it much easier. They're very easy to make with this modification, but much messier than Giada makes it look. I will make them again and again.

Absolutely the best

I've done this a few times now, just the cheese sticks by themselves. A couple of times as a pot luck appetizer, and a few times while entertaining. It was a huge success, everybody was asking me for the recipe. It makes the whole dinner stick out and the guests very impressed. Thank you Giada!

Amazing!

Easy and Delicious

These were so simple to put together and the taste was wonderful. A highly flexibale dish -- you could add asparagus tips, red onion, anything you like. I didn't have trouble working with the phyllo but I had to move fast to keep it from drying out. If you're careful in rolling them, they shouldn't leak while baking. I wasn't able to make the salad to go along with this recipe but can't wait to try it all together.

Great Appetizer!!!

I served these "cigars" in a triangle-like shape as an appetizer. They were a hit!! It was SOOO easy. I made them a week ahead of time and froze them. I defrosted them in the refrigerator the day before I needed them and they were excellent!! The cheese stayed in the puff pastry because I wrapped them in a triangle. I made some with goat cheese that I had left over because I ran out of the smoked mozzerella!!

These are so good ontop of salad. I find that using the sun dried tomatoes in a jar packed with oil and spices gives it a sweet taste that is over powering. I buy the package variety that nothing has been added to and add my own olive oil and spices. This came out less sweet. I find it hard to buy smoked mozzarella but the regular kind is terrific in this recipe.

Fabulous!!!

This is absolutely the most delectable parmesean sun dried tomato combo I have ever tasted. Great on salads, or even as an appetizer or I've even used it as a bread serving with a meal. Wonderful stuff. Everybody loves it! Never any left over!

This was a very fun and relatively easy dish to make. My entire family loved the cigars. We used them as appetizers to our main course instead of in a salad.

The tatse of these cigars was just phenomenal with the zest of the sundried tomatoes and the smokey flavor from the cheese. I used prepackaged puff pastry dough, and despite rolling it out, each cigar still came out gigantic! Won't stop me from making these again tough. They're great even on their own as an hors d'oeurve.

WOW, what a totally impressive spread. I made this just for my normal crew but if I ever wanted to impress someone, this is what I would have as my salad. This was just so different and felt so fru-fru. Oh, by the way, the fact that it is delicious doesnt hurt. I added precooked bacon slices to the inside of mine as well and it was delightful.

AWESOME!

I agree with the previous poster re the working with phyllo. I'm thinking next time I'll use puff pastry rolled thinner..similar idea but less work and still, people think puff pastry is something extra special.
