I loved this dish when I made it just as the recipe was, but I have now tweeked it a bit. I stir the melted butter into the biscuit mix instead of pouring on top and I use fresh potatoes, carrots and broccoli and just boil them a bit first (reduced cooking time) and I have added a couple of dashes of Poultry seasoning or sage to the sauce. REally gives it a made from scratch taste. I love it! Paula Rocks!!!

Loved this recipe!

I made this recipe yesterday and found it quite easy to do. I substituted thawed frozen mixed vegetables for the peas, carrots and hard-boiled eggs. I doubled the recipe to make it in a 9x13-inch pan, so the baking time was nearly double, too. The next time I make it, though, I think I will use two cans of cream of chicken soup and only 10 oz. of the chicken broth as it was too runny.

My whole family loves this recipe! I do omit the eggs-I hate eggs-and add frozen hash browns. I use frozen mixed vegetables, and add some garlic powder and poultry seasoning mix to the filling. I always double up on the recipe because my husband loves to take the leftovers to work the next day for lunch.

Great fast dish and great for leftovers if your lucky enough to have any left. Only time consuming part is waiting for chicken to cook if you don't already have some and the baking. Well worth the wait

I use crescent rolls on the top-just make sure the filling is HOT when you lay them out, or they will be dough-y on bottom. I omitted the eggs and added cheddar cheese condensed soup with the chicken soup, canned green beans and voila! Great starter recipe-we love you, Paula!

I made this for dinner the other night. I thought 1 stick of butter was way too much and uneccessary, so I used 1 tablespoon. I also used the 99% fat free cream of chicken soup. It turned out really runny and thought it needed something more (maybe onions). I liked the egg though. I probably won't make this one again.

This dish is so easy and delicious. I am always introducing new people to it and they can't believe how fabulous it is. I delete the hard boiled eggs (they do not add to the dish in my opinion) and usually cook it in a Dutch oven. I don't think the recipe indicates but I have seen Paula make this and it should be covered.

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I do not understand how this dish receives 4 and 5 stars. My only alterations were to use cream of chicken soup with herbs and added a can of diced potatoes. The soup/broth mixture turned out watery. There was no creaminess to the mixture. This dish was sooo bland. I only gave it 3 stars because the biscuit topping was good. I won't make again but I advise those who do to season liberally and leave off broth. Try 2 different types of undiluted cream soups instead. I'm not sure what I could have done wrong because I have always had wonderful results with Paula's recipes. Sorry Paula...I still love you!!

My family LOVED this recipe. Have made it a couple of times already. Made a few changes. Sauteed some onion and celery, used a small can of mixed veggies, added a can of diced potatoes and use the cream of chicken with herbs...all ideas from others. What can I say...PERFECT!! I did need to cook it a bit longer (usually an hour and it's just right). Thanks for a great and easy recipe Miss Paula...I'm just starting to give cooking a try and a great starter recipe

I made this for dinner a few nights ago, to give my mom a break from the stove, and the whole family loved it. I used 1 can each of potatoes, green beans, and corn and sauted some fresh baby carrots. Everyone loved it, and it all came out really well. Only thing I might change is to add just a little less broth... It was a little wet at the bottem. Still delicious, though, and sure to become a regular. Thanks for the great recipe!!!

I made this the other night and the family loved it. I didn't include the eggs...that just didn't sound very good to me...but, I am pregnant and maybe another time it will. My Husband loves CPP and said it was the best he's had. The only thing I would do differenly is to make sure the potatoes were fully cooked.

User: joan from yourtown, AL    User Rating:
I love this recipe but I 'tweaked' it a little. Instead of chicken I used beef and instead of pea and carrots I used broccoli and squash... I really didn't do this--I just think it is funny all the people who 'love these recipes' but them change them completely. There is nothing wrong with tweaking a recipe to suit your taste--but when you do that and them tell us how much you love Paula's recipe it is a little confusing--just my opinion --you can take it for what its worth--or you can take and tweak it--haha :)

I'm a huge Paula Deen fan so I was sure this was going to be a big hit like all of her other recipes. It did take more than 40 minutes to bake, at least twice that long. Overall it just had a very bad, nasty taste. I would have been much better off sticking to my regular pot pie recipe.

I loved this recipe with a couple modifications. First, I poached my chicken in chicken broth with a dash of sage and rosemary. I then used this broth for the recipe. I read previous reviews and noted that the broth in the recipe was excessive. I used 3/4 c broth, but would definitely use 1/2 c next time. I also added 1/2 tsp sage and garlic powder to the soup mixture. Finally I used low fat Bisquick and low fat cream of mushroom soup. Bake for at least 45-50 minutes. with these changes this is a fabulous recipe!

User: Gail from Perham, MN    User Rating:
I made this for a church gathering, so I doubled the recipe, but kept the biscuit topping the same. It was perfect - not too much breading. I used the eggs, frozen mixed vegetables and some o'brien potatoes I had in the freezer. I didn't have two cans of cream of chicken soup, so I used just one and one can of cream of mushroom. I had two people ask if they could take leftovers home, so I know it was a winner!

This was easily converted into a five star by cooking the carrots (and onions and celery) in a little olive oil and thyme prior to adding. I also left out the egg and cut the butter in half. I never would have thought to put hard-boiled eggs in a chicken pot pie recipe...but I did and it turned out delicious! My only caution to this recipe is that it overflowed the caserole dish. Next time, I would use a little less chicken broth (the bottom was a little runny) and a little less biscuit mixture. Definitely place on a baking sheet in the oven. Enjoy!

A keeper!

Like almost everyone else, I skipped the eggs, but I added a cooked, diced potato with the peas/carrots and only 1/2 cup chicken broth with the can of cream of chicken soup. Also spiced up the blandness a bit with about half a teaspoon of thyme. Also reduced the liquid by half for the biscuit mix and 3 tbsp. of melted butter for the top was plenty!Cooking time was at least 45 minutes! The kids loved it, this is a great winter comfort food!

This is a very good AND EASY recipe! I tweaked it a bit. I left out the eggs, because my husband will not eat hard boiled eggs and frankly, that sounded weird in a pot pie. I added those pre-cooked, cubed Simply Potatoes (2 cups - I like potatoes). I used the heart healthy Bisquick, and cut the butter way down. I used a frozen peas and carrots mix. Next time I might try frozen mixed vegetables.

Loved the topping! Increased the chicken 50%, added onion, garlic, herbs, reduced broth to 1/2 c. and only used 1/2 stick butter. It had to cook an hour to brown the crust. It turned out delicious and will definitely make it again. I normally don't like the crust on top of pot pies, and I don't eat biscuits, but I loved this crust! This is very quick to prepare. Thank you, Paula :-)

Like others, I tweaked a few things - left out the eggs, added a few canned potatoes, used canned peas, added fresh onions to the fresh carrots (sauteed together), and used cream of chicken with herbs. Also used less butter than a stick. But this recipe is so easy (especially using canned goods - would be great with all fresh or frozen) and we loved the biscuit top on this. Baked about 50 minutes, I believe.

I cooked a chicken as if I was making chicken soup, deboned the chicken and used all of it. I used the broth the chicken made as it was cooking instead of boxed broth. All of this obviuosly took a little more time, but it was worth it. After reading the reviews, I also adjusted my veggies to more of our tastes: left out peas, used carrots, some tiny red potatoes which I partially cooked in the water as the chicken simmered, garlic, celery, scallions. I also used the 'healthy' version of cream of chicken soup and a whole wheat biscuit mix. Very, very good. Not a hurry up recipe, but worth it.

This was really very good but I made some changes, as usual. Instead of plain Cream of Chicken soup I used Cream of Chicken with Herbs soup. It has more umph. And instead of chicken broth I used white wine. I also cut a potato into cubes, parboiled for 10 minutes and threw that in. Like most everybody else, I only used 1/2 cup melted butter on top.

I did make a few alterations after reading other reviews - I diced the eggs, added one small diced baking potato, a dash of garlic powder to the liquid, and only 1/2 stick of butter. I seasoned it with freshly ground black pepper and WOW! This will be made over and over again in my house. Thanks Paula!

I managed to make a VERY low fat version of this! Fat free cream of chicken soup, fat free chicken broth, fat free milk. Low fat bisquit mix and 1/4 stick of light butter. And it tastes AWESOME!! I saw that someone said the bisquit mix takes too long to cook - make sure you don't put a HUGE amount of it on top. I put a little bit - it almost looks like it's not enough but it puffs up beautifully! I also add a sprinkling of onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper on top of the melted butter topping and it tastes wonderful! Thanks again Paula!!

My husband always responds, "it's good, honey" when I make dinner (which is most nights - and I do try to be creative). His grandfather owned an Italian restaurant, and he considers himself, somewhat of a gourmet. He loved this recipe. He said "you should make this once a week, at least," and he ate the entire thing, all but the one serving that I had (he is 6'5, 240 lbs.). Anyhow - I feel guilty knowing how easy it was. I used the recipe as is, and it was not too liquidy. It did need an extra 15 or so minutes, but what's the big deal? A winner that I will feed to may especially picky stepson.

User: mel from harrison, NY    User Rating:
My biggest complaint with the recipe, is that as many others have suggested, the recipe wasn't perfected. You have to change it around a little to figure out what works best. I've made it twice, and both times I had to cook it for one hour. There is NO WAY that you can cook it for 30 minutes as the recipe says- it will be watery and the crust on top doesnt get golden brown until 50 minutes into it. So the 30 minutes is a bunch of bologna! You will ruin your recipe eating it at that point. Secondly, I omitted the eggs, thirdly because of the high water content the first time, I ended up reducing the Chicken broth to 1/2 cup instead of 1 cup. It came out much better consistency when I made it today. Definitely a keeper. However, I do think there might be other pot pies by her that are possibly a little bit better- even though this is very good it perhaps could use a tiny bit of a kick as emeril would say.

So Yummy!

Normally I would have probably given this 3 stars, but I had to give it 4 because for how EASY and QUICK it was, the taste was GOOD!!! Of course I had no Cream of Chicken soup or Bisquick on hand (which I always do...lol!), so I used A can of Chicken gravy and some refrigerated rolls of biscuits I had...and it was good. I spice up everything I make, so I put some roasemary and thyme in with the gravy. It really was good...took about 10 minutes to prepare, a few more to bake and only seconds for the kids to chow down...a "cheap keeper", esp for leftover chicken!
