My Family Hated this Pork 09/14/2007 at 02:22pm User: Sandy from Lemur, NE User Rating: My family hated the fruit in the sauce. Well, they basically hated everything about this recipe. The fruit, the pop in the sauce, the meat being very overcooked. And we are a family of pork lovers, too. Snadra Lee has many other pork recipes which are much better than this one. The Worst Pork Roast I've Ever Made 09/14/2007 at 02:18pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I was expecting something "different" and wonderful, but what I ended up with was dry, stringly tasteless pork in a thin greasy sauce. Just awful. Not Good 09/14/2007 at 02:12pm User: Tiffnee from Detroit, MI User Rating: The sauce was sweet and unpleasant. I wouldn't make it using Dr. Pepper again. Just had a very odd taste. I agree that the pork was very dry, but it cooked so long that it fell apart. Would have been pretty good if it was soaked in a decent sauce, but as it was I ended up throwing a ton of it away. Peppery Pork Roast 09/12/2007 at 01:43pm User: Kathryn from Chanute, KS User Rating: Absolutely easy to make and yummy to serve guests or family!! A big hit at my house! this is the tastiest pork roast 09/10/2007 at 11:11pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The flavors in this roast are exceptional! This will become a tried and true favorite in our family. Peppery Pork Roast 09/07/2007 at 08:21pm User: Willhelmina from Baton Rouge, LA User Rating: This is the best recipe for pork roast that I have ever tried. And I have tried 100s. Sounds so strange, but give it a try. DISAPPOINTING ROAST 09/05/2007 at 02:38pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The pork doesn't taste the least bit "peppery." That miffed us a lot. Plus it was dry and stringy. My SIL told me later never to cook a pork tenderloin in a crock pot or it will dry out. I wonder if anyone reviews these recipes. DRY! 09/03/2007 at 05:00pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Horribly dry and overcooked Great Combo 08/11/2007 at 11:36am User: Anonymous User Rating: My family loved this recipe. The only thing i altered was the cooking time after reading previous reviews. I cut time time down by 1/2 hr. Other than that i thought it was tasty and very flavorful. not pepper pork 08/08/2007 at 07:33pm User: Anonymous User Rating: if you must make this and wish to have a peppery dish, use a tsp or two of pepper and ginger ale and omit prunes. Adjust cloves and garlic to taste. Dry and Overcooked Pork 08/08/2007 at 04:46pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The pork was dry and dreadfully overcooked -- so overcooked it basically fell apart. The sauce was too sweet. not good 06/09/2007 at 12:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I was so looking forward to trying recipe with ingredients i am not used to cooking with. It was nauseating. The meat was very tender, but i couldn't get near the sauce, nor could m husband. Tender but Dry 05/27/2007 at 11:25am User: JAN from Elk Grove Village, IL User Rating: I made this for my husband and myself and while the meat was tender it was very dry and I had to use gravy to save it. Needless to say this won't make it into my recipe book. Not what I expected 05/17/2007 at 03:25pm User: Anonymous User Rating: While the meat was extremely tender it didn't taste very good Pepery Pork Roast 05/16/2008 at 01:25pm User: null from null, null User Rating: Worst dish ever. My dog wouldn't even eat it. It was a waste of a good pork tenderloin. I have stopped watching Sandra Lee. cook all day 05/08/2007 at 08:55pm User: robert from bay shore, NY User Rating: Not bad but not what I expected. Pleasantly Surprised 05/08/2007 at 06:51pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Wow. I am surprised at how delicious this is! First of all, I used coke not Dr. Pepper and added a pinch of thyme. It made my house smell unbelievable all afternoon and was amazing! I served it with steamed carrot slices and curry rice. My husband nearly died. Very pleased Sandra. Good recipe! sooooooooo easy 04/24/2007 at 01:47pm User: Mimi from Encinitas, CA User Rating: Again, not a GREAT fan of Sandra's, but this really got my attention. I didn't change a thing..Dr.Pepper and all (the person who thinks Pepsi is less sweet.....hmmmm). My only problem was that the pork was basically shreddable after 7 hours in the slow cooker. No way to slice it. But yummers if you like dried fruit and cinnamon and cloves. I plan to use the leftover shredded pork for fajitas and (per suggestion) get some chicken tenders and use up the sauce. TERRIBLE 04/20/2007 at 04:50pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The pork was dry as a bone and the sauce was nauseating. Great recipe 04/14/2008 at 05:18pm User: jenniffer from midlothian, VA User Rating: In her cookbook it is titled Dr. pepper pork roast. Cut down on the cooking time or your roast will overcook. I also use an immersion blender to blend so of the juices, onions and fruit to make a great gravy. I have severed this recipe at work and home and everyone loves it. Disappointing 04/09/2007 at 12:37pm User: Marilyn from Grand Forks, ND User Rating: I made the recipe just as it says - even turned it once or twice to get it all in the sauce. It was way too dry and not enough flavor in the meat itself. Fantastic 04/03/2007 at 09:14am User: Veronica from Glastonbury, CT User Rating: This was a great and easy recipe. The only changes I made was to use only 3 cloves and I added 1 clove of garlic and omitted the prunes. I also only used 1/2/ can of the soda. My guests loved it and even took some home with them. Loved it! 04/01/2007 at 03:01pm User: carole from pahrump, NV User Rating: This recipe was easy and had a great flavor. Served it with garlic mashed potatoes and my husband loved it. Much too Peppery 03/30/2007 at 02:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Too peppery! WOW! Also much too sweet to enjoy. This recipe is NOT a keeper, folks. really bad 03/28/2007 at 03:59pm User: Culeen from Pardeeville, WI User Rating: no "peppery" to it I guess Sondra doesn't know Dr Pepper (the soft drink) is sweet, NOT peppery Very Unpleasant 03/26/2007 at 11:40am User: Dyannna from Seal Beach, CA User Rating: We are a family of pork eaters so I am always looking for new and exciting ways to serve it. This looked really interesting, so we tried it on Sunday. Overall, I'd say it was very disappointing. The meat was dry and the sauce was unpleasantly sweet and decidedly not peppery. Not at all what we expected. We won't make it again. This was easy and yummy! 03/21/2007 at 12:01am User: Trisha from Fountain Valley, CA User Rating: I used boneless pork chops. This was so easy, and I added it into my regular routine. Sickeningly Sweet 03/19/2007 at 04:21pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Much too sweet and fruity. Needed more savory flavor. TOO DRY 03/19/2007 at 02:18pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I used Coke and thought the taste was very good but the pork was very dry and overcooked. Give it a chance! 03/18/2007 at 04:45pm User: Anonymous User Rating: After reading the poor reviews, I was skeptical about trying this. I didn't want it too sweet (as many reviews stated) so I only used half a can of Dr. Pepper. I left everything else the same. It was really good! Not too sweet, very tender, and a great flavor! It was super easy to make too. So give it a chance! Excellent 03/18/2007 at 01:32pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Meat was tender and flavorful. The sauce was tasty. Great way to make pork roast! Great for a cool, autumn time meal. 03/17/2008 at 10:55am User: Emily from Havre, MT User Rating: This is the only recipe of Sandra's that I have tried and found it to be easy to prepare and very tasty to eat. Plus, it was a great way to use up some dried fruits in my pantry from other meals. The pork came out tender, the fruits and onions were soft and good, and overall it was a very good Sunday night meal. Peppery pork roast get an A+ 03/15/2007 at 05:45pm User: Clea from Manchester, KY User Rating: I am a Dr. Pepper lover so I just had to try this recipe and it did not dissapoint. Everyone in my family loved it and it was simple. This will definitely go on my list of dinner favorites. VERY DRY 03/14/2007 at 04:43pm User: Anonymous User Rating: The meat came out very, very dry. Much too sweet. Very good roast 03/14/2007 at 09:25am User: Kim from Bethany, OK User Rating: After reading the reviews and watching the show one more time to see for myself just what she was putting in( it is Dr.Pepper) I decided to make a few minor changes when preparing this myself. Dr.Pepper is a very sweet soda so I changed to Pepsi. I only used 1 cup of it and then added a half a cup of water. I used the onions and the dried fruits as written but when it came to the spices I omitted the cloves as I don't like them and added just a pinch of nutmeg. I also added two cloves of garlic to balance out the sweetness a little. Everything else was done according to directions and let me say this turned out to be a crowd pleaser! Everyone loved it. Just to be on the safe side 03/13/2007 at 04:00pm User: Karyn from Speedway, IN User Rating: I made this without the Dr. Pepper because I heard that pouring soda pop on a raw piece of pork will cause worms to come crawling out of the meat. It came out pretty dry. Maybe I should have used the pop? My family LOVED this! 03/13/2007 at 03:53pm User: Cindy from Higley, AZ User Rating: After watching the show Saturday I couldn't wait to make this and even though the ingredients were to say the least odd, the combination was terrific. Tonight I am taking the leftovers, adding a little BBQ sauce and making sandwiches. Give it a try, make your own judgment, as for me I will be making this one again! Soooooooooooo Bad 03/13/2007 at 02:17pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Wow, this was really, really bad! Tasted horrible and the meat was very dry. wonderful 03/12/2007 at 06:04pm User: Anonymous User Rating: excellent and tender. lots of flavor. Terrible 03/12/2007 at 12:25pm User: Anonymous User Rating: completely lacking in desired/anticipated flavor. followed recipe exactly. CONFUSING 03/12/2007 at 10:53am User: Marteena from Sugar Land, TX User Rating: I watched the show on Saturday and she so DID NOT cook the roast with Dr. Pepper!!! We all thought it was way too sweet. LEAVE THE SODA OUT! Classic from this cook 03/10/2007 at 11:10am User: Eva from New Braunfels, TX User Rating: Dr Pepper for a meat sauce? This was just awful and way too sweet. Better as Bread Pudding 03/09/2007 at 04:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: With the pop and the fruit and the spices this tasted more like a dessert than an entree. Would probably make a good bread pudding but as a main dish it was nauseating. MUCH TOO SWEET 03/09/2007 at 01:01pm User: Bea from Manhattan, KS User Rating: The pork was much too sweet and not one bit peppery. Dr. Pepper doesn't taste like pepper -- it's just a cute name for a sweet soft drink. The roast also looked like liver and onions when it was served, so make sure your family doesn't think you're serving THAT to them. |
