Very good experience! 08/18/2007 at 11:52pm User: mary from hemet, CA User Rating: Something I learned from my late mother-in-law: Make the recipe by the recipe the first time. Only then can you change it. This practice has worked for me every since. So here's my review: This is a VERY good dish. It became clear that the 1 tablespoon of salt in the rice is to season the large amount of combined rice and beans. The pesto can only be made with the 2 cups of basil, though perhaps a little cilantro could be thrown in for the effect: but 2 cups of cilantro would have destroyed the recipe. My family and I found this a very nicely flavored, properly seasoned and creamy textured dish from the butter and olive oil. I will definitely make this one again. Well done! wrong ingredient?? 04/18/2007 at 01:01am User: Tami from Camas, WA User Rating: I was thinking the exact same thing. I have tried making a cilantro pesto for rice so I was hoping Bobby can help me PLEASE FIX THIS RECIPE 04/17/2007 at 09:19pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I know Bobby said cilantro rather than basil in the pesto and the 1 Tbs of salt doesn't sound right either. Would someone please proofread this recipe. I really would like to try it. the only thing from this menu we enjoyed 03/12/2008 at 12:44pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I saw the Throw Down and thought everything looked amazing. I had to try these recipes. So I went and searched for all the unique ingredients. Finally, spent all day yesterday making it and this was the only thing the family wanted to eat. I made the full recipe of pesto, and used maybe 2/3s of it, saving the remainder for another use. We love cilantro and it really added a brightness to the rice and beans. They would have been bland bland bland without. Cuban versus Latin or otherwise 01/18/2008 at 12:01am User: Joyce from Orange, VA User Rating: I found this recipe to be pretty good; as one reviewer said, the Tablespoon of salt was for the beans and rice, and was about right for my taste. As to the cilantro; this herb seems to be found more in Mexican cooking, and depends on your tongue, how strong to make it. A few years ago, this much cilantro would have been very strong, for me. Personally, I would still go with about half of the cilantro recommended in this recipe. It gives the dish a fresh taste. |
