I look forward to making this recipe again! I could tell by reading the recipe that it would be super tasty and I was correct! I halved the recipe since it was only my husband and me. We substituted baby spinach for the lettuce and we used flat leaf parsley instead of cilantro--it still tasted great!

EXCELLENT TACOS

These were better than the restaurants make! I used talapia and pan grilled it; used cabbage slaw (in the bag) and fresh cilantro. Omitted the corn since I didn't have any. Absolutely the best fish tacos my husband and I had ever eaten. I will make again for sure!!!!!

Great Fish Tacos

These were fantastic. I added some chopped red pepper and grated carrot to the cabbage and mixed it with the yogurt sauce. It's a must to grill the corn tortillas briefly first. My hubby even loved these.

This is a fantastic recipe. The chipotle cream tastes so fresh and is the perfect addition to this taco. It makes it. My husband who hates fish loved this recipe. It is going to be a weekly dinner from now on.

I am a big fan of fish tacos, but usually the battered and fried ones. I pan fried the fish in a little olive oil and it was light and flavorful. I served with a little cheddar cheese, cabbage, chipotle cream, cilantro and lime. Even my 3 year old loved this! As a full-time working mom this is a great weeknight recipe. Will definately make again.

Awesome!!

User: Elisa from Danvers, MA    User Rating:
These are so delicious and healthy too!! The sweet corn and crunch of the cabbage slaw go perfectly with the fish. Watch out with the chipotles though!! I made with the full 2 teaspoons and it was waaay to hot for us. (And I usually love spicy food.) I'd start with 1/2 tsp. of the chipotles and add more to taste. My family really enjoyed these tacos!

I have made these almost every week for my family since I first made them. The sauce is genius, the textures are wonderful and these are so quick and easy. I use flour tortillas instead of corn and use store-bought pico de gallo and pre-shredded cabbage for the toppings.

Very yummy!

I am in love with this recipe. I recently dropped out of Jenny Craig (yay!) and I was searching for some tasty healthy recipes. My husband and I lived in San Diego for awhile and fell in love with fish tacos. This is a great recipe!!! So easy, CHEAP, and absolutely delicious. I used flash frozen, individually wrapped Tillapia, defrosted them in warm water for five minutes, and shortly thereafter had great tasting tacos. I highly recommend!!!

supreme chipotle cream
02/20/2008 at 02:45pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
The chipotle cream makes this supreme! You can add more or less pepper to your liking. I cut mine back a little.I also used light mayo, it was great. Do not omit the lime; it adds lots of flavor! I also used flour tortillas, all I had on hand, but cut them in half & cut off sides (too much tortilla takes away the taste of the fish) Nice addition to regular taco meal; only half my kids would try them.

Very good

User: Gina from Knoxville, TN    User Rating:
The marinade gives the fish a nice flavor ? that with the corn and cabbage gives these a whole different taste from tacos I?ve had. I?ve never had a fish taco before, but these reminded me of the Shark N Bake I had in Trinidad (which I loved) only way less fat. Shark N Bake is basically fried fish on fried bread, with a big variety of condiments to dress it up (peppers, relish, etc). If you think these fish tacos are too bland, you could add jalapenos or other spicy/flavorful things without compromising the healthiness of them. This is another Healthy Appetite recipe that my husband loved, and he claims to only like fish when it?s fried.

Perfect!

Minor changes make it greater
01/10/2008 at 09:32pm
User: Jenny from Covington, LA    User Rating:
I used this recipe as inspiration but altered slightly. I feel the original recipe might be slightly boring even with the chipotle cream. I used hard taco shells broken to lay flat instead of tortillas. I added chopped tomato and avocado to the top for color and added fun. I also added a dab of sour cream to the chipotle cream to help balance the hotness. It was delicious. I am sold on using shredded cabbage in this type of taco dish instead of lettuce...better crisp, holds up well. I used halibut and marinated as directed - then seared on the stove instead of grill....perfecto! The halibut was so good that if you are not sure about chipotle you could easily skip it and just make the fish taco.

Double your cream!
01/10/2008 at 04:42pm
User: Carol from Satellite Beach, FL    User Rating:
This was a terrific recipe, however, I found we needed to double the amount of cream mixture we added to each taco. One tablespoon was not enough! In fact, I would automatically double the cream recipe from the beginning, because it does not make enough to take care of a whole pound of fish! The taste is fabulous though!

This recipe for fish tacos is very fresh and "clean" tasting. The recipe was very easy and fast to prepare as well. It beats most fish tacos I've eaten in restaurants. I added some Newman's light lime vinaigrette to the slaw mixture and added avocado as a topping. Excellent!

just "ok" -- needed some spice!

i LOVE fish tacos, especially when they're made with grilled (not fried) fish, so i was very excited about this recipe. unfortunately, it was just a bit too bland for me. i have some low sodium blackening seasoning, so after the first fillet (my test fillet) of fish, i dusted that onto the fish for some extra flavor. the recipe is a good base for modifications though!

Chipolte Cream
11/05/2007 at 08:30pm
User: Leigh from Ocoee, FL    User Rating:
I must admit, I made only the chipolte cream, and served it with tacos and empanadas from another recipe. It looked so good, and seemed to be a "healthy" alternative to sour cream. My guests and I raved. I made it exactly how Ellie wrote the recipe and it was an unexpected, tangy, smoky, and delicious addition. I promise to try it with the fish tacos soon, Ellie! Thanks for all your healthy alternatives!

It's amazing how something so simple can taste so good. I love the marinade. I even added a little bit of diced garlic to the marinade. I will start using this for everything. I will have to try with different tortillas next time, I don't care so much for the taste of the corn tortillas. I know they are healthier but I can't get used to the taste.

Tried these last night and they were off the chart delish. Far exceeded my expectations. I followed the recipe exactly except went a tad lighter on the amount of chipotles in the sauce (reduced by a half teaspoon). My husband loved it so much we have decided to cook them again tonight. This will be a keeper and more than likely a weekly meal. Yum, yum, yum. Thanks Ellie.

A great healthy option to typical tacos. My husband doesn't generally like fish, but he really loved this recipe. When in season use the fresh corn, raw. The crisp-ness that it added in every bite, along with kick from the chipolte was just fabulous.

These fish tacos were so good, they wouldn't have been the same without the chipotle cream! Be careful on what type of fish you use because some are fishier than others. I DO NOT recomend pollock. Cod or Halibut are so much better.

The chipolte sauce is "killer". I have used this with beef and chicken tacos. Love it....who needs sour cream!!!! Thank you Ellie!!!

I made these last night with some stuffed tomatoes and dinner was delightful. I had some left-over mahi from the night before. I added some lime zest to the marinade before juicing the lime. Instead of kernal corn I used rinsed black beans. For chipotle cream sauce I added an extra tsp of chipotle pepper and sauce and probably could have used even more, as personal taste. I used 98% fat free whole wheat soft taco shells (tortillas). The whole family really enjoyed these and we'll be sure to use this recipe again. Thanks Ellie!

The dinner was grand, however while making the chipotle sauce I noticed some inconsistancy. The ingredient list says mayonnaise but the recipe directions list sour cream. I used fat free sour cream and it tasted wonderful. Food Network needs to correct this typo.

I attempted this recipe in an effort to have a healthy dinner, thinking I would be sacrificing some taste. I had no idea (!) how delicious it would be. The chipotle cream is AMAZING, the fish was light and citrus-y, and it's actually very filling - smaller portions, great food, and so yummy!

We all loved these tacos. I loved the chipotle cream as written, but the kids found it a little too hot. So you might want to reduce the peppers to half for those that can't take the heat. Even though my kids have always preferred flour tortillas, we ate these with the corn and they loved them.
