While many reviews said this was bland, I still gave it a try and I wasn't disappointed. It was very good and tasty, the fish moist... I just added some onions.

Roasted Cod Fish was a winner

While many reviews said this was bland, I gave it a try and it turned out delicious. I used cannelini beans instead of lima beans, used plenty of fresh chopped parsley and salt and pepper. My cod fish fillets were nice and thick so the fish turned out very moist and flavorful. I would definitely make this again.

don't make this!

i used frozen cod, edamame instead of lima beans, cilantro combined with parsley & added much more salt & pepper than just a "pinch" - came out really yummy! i served a table of 4 and everyone cleaned their plate!

bland even with wahoo...

It wasn't our favorite. My husband fishes all the time, so I am always looking for fish recipe. This one was pretty presentation BUT bland - maybe it needs more salt and pepper (????), not sure. If I ever do it again, I will add my "all seasoning Adobo". The lima beans were a nice touch, as a serve of veggies. Thanks.

Easy and Good

This was great! If you don't drink a lot of wine, most stores that sell wine have single serving bottles in 4 packs. The fish turned out great. I know there is a cooking time, but you can get by with letting sit in the oven a bit longer or lower the heat to keep it warm if you need too because of the liquid.

Fast, good, no dirty dishes

I used frozen cod (not even thawed) and substituted marinated artichoke hearts b/c I didn't have white wine, and it was delicious. Hubby was dubious about lima beans and fish for dinner, but we both liked it a lot!

Great summer dish

We used fava beans instead of lima beans and we really liked the results. We also added a butter, wine, shallot sauce when we served the dish. It didn't lack flavor.

Perfectly cooked, bland cod

This dish is perfectly cooked, but the cod is bland. You know the saying, "I don't know if your cod comes seasoned" - I'll do myself a favor next time by sprinkling the cod with essence.

ok

You know normally I love most if not all of Giada's recipes. This one although is not a favorite. I think the cod was a bit bland. Next time I think I will add a bit of lemon zest and more herbs.

Good, but not great

User: JAMES from Houston, TX    User Rating:
I found this recipe a bit bland the first time around but I felt that it had promise. The next time I added a little lemon zest. At the end, I added some fleur de sel which gave the dish some saltiness and crunch. Based on my second try I would still only rate the dish a 3.5 despite my love for cod and lima beans. They're great separately but not a winner necessarily together.

Simple and Tasty!

I loved this quick and easy recipe. I am not sure why several people said it was bland. I think the flavors were simple and light, but delicious. The beans were perfect, even though I was worried they would be tough or dry based on other comments. I will definitely be making this easy dish more often!

Changed it up a bit

Given the reviews and my husband not liking the flavor of white wine in foods, I substituted lemon butter for the wine and added a little garlic and herb Mrs. Dash along with the parsley and coarse salt and cracked pepper and it was Great quick supper!

Another recipe of Giada that I have try; and again me and my husband was very disapointed. Following my instinct I added some natural lemon juice, more wine, garlic and onions, but it does not help so much to improve this Bad recipe. Olga, from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

This is an execellent meal. It's very light but good. Don't be afraid to add the light extra parsely and wine. It really adds to the flavor.

Changed it up a bit - yum & quick

I actually used a Mahi Mahi filet, added fresh garlic, red pepper flakes, kosher salt & pepper to the lima beans. I also added an additional spice on the top by Urban Accents called Isle of Carpi Blend which has sea salt, red pepper flakes, garlic, oregano and thyme. This really kicked it up and I thought the lima beans were pretty tastely even though I was a bit scared at first as I couldn't recall having them in the past and so many people don't like them. A quick meal with a few additions and it was not at all lacking in flavor

Good with a little adjustment

I read the other reviews and decided to add some roasted tomatoes to each piece of fish and I used canned lima beans instead of frozen. I also added a little crisp bacon when it was finished and that added a lot. Next time I think I would use capers instead of bacon and I bet that would work out nicely. It was good but not great.

It was...ok

It was okay. I added some garlic and red pepper flakes and my fish was still bland. I didn't like the texture of the lima beans either. Maybe next time I'll use canned beans?

I was very disappointed with the results of this recipe. I made it exactly as written, but didn't think it had any flavor at all. I did add a slice of lemon on top of the fish before baking, but that didn't help either. Guess I was expecting a tastier dish..........!

I should have read the reviews first! Take bland cod and bland lima beans and guess what you get? I'm also not a fan of this cooking method. Don't let the name of the dish fool you - it is not roasted, it is steamed. Reminded me of something you'd get when you're in the hospital on a bland diet. Yuck.

Good and not so good...

I made this tonight, using tilapia instead of cod. Based on another reviewer's recommendation, I added a clove of fresh-chopped garlic and a little bit of crushed red pepper to the lima bean mixture. Even with that addition, it still didn't have much flavor. Furthermore, the lima beans had an unusual texture - grainy and not as soft as I'm accustomed to. All that said, the method of preparation is easy, mess-free, and can be used with ingredients other than lima beans. Husband and I decided next time we will forego the lima beans and instead use sliced red, orange, and yellow peppers and some sliced red onion in the packet. We can eat the packet contents as-is or throw it in a flour tortilla for fish tacos. This is the second Giada recipe I've tried - the first was chicken cacciatore. Both have been bland and without any flavor.

not a keeper

very bland fish and "tough" lima beans. Did like the cooking method (easy and clean) and the health ad vantage but for flavor and "delicious" quality....NOT SO MUCH.

User: BARBARA from Herndon, VA    User Rating:
I am sure that my dish did not turn out as Giada intended, because it was awful. There was hardly no flavor and there was way too much olive oil taste and a funny bitter taste. ??? I may try again and adjust all the spices and ingredients because I love the idea and it's so easy.

really good

I was looking for new ways to have fish and different types of fish - I was tired of salmon and tuna so I decided to give this a shot. I loved it! It was the easiest thing in the world to make and I loved the fresh flavor combinations. Delisious! One of the best things though - no dishes to clean!

Simple yet Bland

Trust the other reviewers and your own instincts on this one. Pros: Very quick to prepare, simple, healthy and only a handful of ingredients Cons: Very bland and the fish took longer for me (about 40 minutes). This one is not a keeper for me, although I applaud the healthfulness but I like my food more spicy!

A Little Different

I used edamame instead of lima beans and added just a pinch of chopped garlic, which added to the flavor a bit. Next time, I'm going to try halibut instead of cod. This is an easy, quick and "good for you" recipe that is easily enhanced. Great basic!

A rare miss for Giada

I was a little doubtful of this from the start, but I usually really like Giada, so I made the recipe exactly as written. I should have trusted my instincts and done as another reviewer and added onions and garlic and maybe another herb... It was SO BLAND. Just wet, white fish on top of tough and mealy lima beans. Edible, but not a favorite.

I used tilapia instead of cod. I never can find fresh cod here. Added a sliced leek to the butter beans, along with some minced garlic & crushed red pepper. Otherwise followed the directions. It doesn't get any easier than this, and it was light and delicious.
