This is one of my favorite recipes for artichoke hearts. It was perfect with the Marsala wine (make sure it is a light Marsala wine). Added more red pepper flakes and used flavored Italian Bread Crumbs. Please don't file a review if you never tried it. If you like artichokes you will love this. If you do not like artichokes, why do you try it?

This is one of my favorite recipes. I make it all the time, it's easy, and it's always a hit. However, I recommend against using the Marsala wine. Usually, I make this with a fruity white wine such as riesling. The one time I tried it with the Marsala wine, it seemed to overpower the dish and it was almost inedible.

Delicious!

Great with a few adjustments

User: j from Bronx, NY    User Rating:
I loved this dish and it was a big hit at my dinner party. I did make some adjustments, including using more garlic and using italian panko bread crumbs. I also used 1/2 melted butter and 1/2 EVOO in the breadcrumb/cheese topping. Additionally, i squeezed 1/2 lemon over the artichokes, before putting the topping on. After cooking and browning the top, i squeezed the other 1/2 lemon over the gratinata (i also served with a couple of lemon wedges, which added nice color/taste). I think the lemon really makes for a fresh taste.

Fantabulous!

I don't know how anyone could think this dish is tasteless; it is FULL of flavor (hello, red pepper flakes!). I have yet to find frozen artichoke hearts in the area where I live, so I always buy jarred or canned, then try to get as much of the liquid off of them as I can. Marinated artichoke hearts add even more flavor. This has become one of our absolute favorite veggie dishes. Thanks Giada!

Love it!

Such a yummy side dish... I have made it three times and it has been a hit every time. Not only tasty, but adds a ton of fiber to your day. I have used both jarred in water and frozen artichokes (they don't sell frozen artichoke hearts at whole foods, wild oats, etc. you have to get them at the regular grocery store). But both are equally good. :) Perfect for fall and winter.

I made this last minute as a side dish with dinner and could not believe I was done prepping in 5 minutes, then just popped in the oven! I am a #1 fan of artichokes, so always looking for new ways to eat them - LOVE the marsala wine flavor off of the sharp cheese, soft artichokes off of the crispy topping. Will make more topping for next time, but for now, SO YUMMY!

I wanted to love this. Mine came out very dry and bland tasting. My 6 yr old and I love Giada and cook from her recipes all of the time. Her recipes are always a winner in our house, just not this one. Maybe if it had more of a buttery/light cream sauce to keep the artichokes moist - I don't know. Just too dry and not enough flavor for us.

The flavor here was nice, but just too subtle. I loved the bread crumb and Parm topping. That was great. The hearts themselves, though, would have done better in a sauce with more kick and/or creaminess.

I don't know what some of you poor raters are talking about if you rated this dish with no taste- YOU ARE MAKING IT WRONG THEN! I tried this recipe tonight and followed the recipe directly (only substituting canned artichokes for the frozen). There is no substitute for Marsala wine, it has a distinct flavor that is unique and exquisite! What a wonderful blend of flavors in my mouth. I will definately make this again for company that I know are fans of artichokes.

User: JOANNE from Maspeth, NY    User Rating:
I made this for some picky eaters and it was well received. I altered the recipe a little--instead of marsala wine, I used Pinot Grigio. I thought a white wine went better with the artichokes. Also, the next time I make it, I'll use fresh bread crumbs, the store bought tasted a little stale. Follow recipe exactly - no need to tweak.

easy & yummy!

This was very tasty. I didn't give it q 5 because I'd suggest adding salt (to taste) at the end instead of while cooking since the amount Giada recommended came out a bit over-salted once combined with the salty cheese. However, great flavor for a side dish and even better warmed the next day!

I couldn't find frozen artichoke hearts in two supermarkets, so I bought a fresh cauliflower. Cut it into florets, and followed recipe. Only change was to let the cooking go longer with the liquid to get the cauliflower softer and cooked until it was almost gone. It was really delicious. The breadcrumb mixture reminded me of the mixture on baked clams. Yum.
