Excellent!

This is an excellent, as well as interesting side dish of beans due to the use of white cannelloni beans and pancetta. I used only one chipotle chile and some of the sauce which gave the dish a nice hit of heat, but far from overwhelming. As noted in many of the reviews where folks used an entire can, I can understand why they would give a low rating to the recipe. Hint: Rather than make the entire recipe, I halved the sauce mixture, used 2 15.5 oz. cans of beans, and used thinly sliced pancetta. I added the sauce until I liked the consistency. Also, if you put the broiler on at the end for a minute or two, this will crisp up the pancetta and the result is a very nice presentation.

The recipe calls for one CANNED chipolte chilis in adobo sauce - not one CAN. The mistake is the plural chilis instead of singular chili.

To Much Chipotle

I should have read the reviews before I started the recipe. Although I am an experienced cook, I put the whole can of Chipotle's in as the recipe indicated, against my better judgement. I figured Tyler might know something that I did not. I had to throw the whole thing away as is was inedible. Ruined my dinner as I did not have another side dish to serve.

OK but not a a do over..

I liked the little kick, but the texture was grainy. I would of pan fried the pancheta a little brfore to crisp up and add the fat to the beans. I used only 1 rinsed chile. Not a do over.

Not too crazy...

I made all of the dishes from this episode and wasn't crazy about the beans. I felt that they were hard and dry when I expected them to be soft and mooshy, I also expected a sweeter taste. My mother loved them, so I guess they weren't so bad, but I would change this up the next time I make it. The Pancetta, delicious, but you can't really go wrong with that.

I made these for my husband. He loved them. I bit spicy for me and I used very little of the chipotle. It's a keeper in the recipe book

Tasty but I should have read the reviews first. This looked so good when I watched Tyler make it this morning. I went right to the store and bought the ingredients. I too was confused about the amount of chiles to put in. I put a whole small can and it was a little too hot. However, my husband who is a chile head, "liked them". Would make again with 1/2 small can of chiles.

Loved it

Chile Amount Misleading

Read carefully: 1 canned chipotle chiles in adobo does not mean ONE WHOLE CAN. I used an entire can and had to throw the entire dish away. It was too hot and inedible. I believe that the recipe is calling for one chile and not one can. Also the chiles come in different sized cans. I used the largest. Of course.

watch out!

Only put one chipolte pepper from the can in this sauce. If you read the recipe, you could read it as though you put a whole can...I put in 1/2 can and almost wasted an entire side dish. I put in 1/3 cup of the sauce then added another 1/4 c molasses and 1/4 ketchup. The beans were hot enough, but were different. Would not go this route again.

The recipe did not specify how many chilies to use, so I used the whole can. The beans were SO HOT that no one could eat them. I ended up throwing them out!

The beans tasted very good, but the recipe was unclear about how many chiles to use. The recipe was generally very difficult to follow, even though I saw the episode it was featured in.

This is a great cheap side that is simple to make. I made a small batch and just used bacon for the topper w/o the rosemary. Be careful not to add too much heat with the chilies, I gave the sauce a taste after each additional pepper. These are great with BBQ and Mexican dishes.

Another of Tyler's humble proclamations of the "ultimate" recipe that isn't. No ultimate baked bean recipe starts with canned beans. Alton Brown's "Once and future bean" is the ultimate baked bean recipe but it does take 6-8 hours. This is ok for doctored-up canned beans but it is far away from the ultimate.
