Best ever 12/15/2007 at 05:42pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I thought the combinations of cheeses sounded odd but decided to try it. This is the best lasagna I have ever had. It was so creamy and flavorful. Instead of hamburger in the sauce I used mild Italian sausage which was excellent. Recommend this to anyone even if you're skeptical, try it. too salty... 12/06/2007 at 11:23am User: Connie from Buffalo, MN User Rating: Paula is one of my favorite cooks, so I figured trying her lasagna recipe would be a hit. I love salty food, but this was over-the-top. I used italian sausage instead of ground beef, which didn't help the saltiness. I should have eliminated the three teaspoons of seasoned salt the recipe calls for (House seasoning & Seasoned Salt). It was so rich and salty that I could not finish my portion and neither could the rest of my family (except my 16 year old son, he'll eat anything that's put in front of him!). I would also eliminate the cream cheese - just too much. I woke up the next morning and my eyes looked liked two pinholes! No joke. I had to put preparation H on them to get the swelling down! Yes, Preparation H works for puffy eyes. I've used it for years. Just keep it OUT of your eyes! I will make this recipe again, but I won't add the salt until I've tasted the sauce first. Remember that cheese is salty too. Someone had mentioned that their lasagna was runny. This is what I do to keep my lasagna portions from looking like a big glob on my plate. Mix 2 tablespoons of flour to the cottage cheese mixure. I use flour instead of egg. I rated this a four because the lasagna is good, it just needs a bit tweaking to make it GREAT! Happy cooking! Very good but make extra sauce 11/27/2007 at 10:53pm User: Lance from St. Charles, MO User Rating: The first time I made this recipe I unfortunately did not take the advice of many of the reviews which stated that the recipe for sauce was not sufficient. My advice is to make a double batch of sauce and if there is some left over you can serve it on the side. I thought this recipe was very good. Like most lasagnas, in my opinion, eating this lasagna as warmed up leftovers was better than when it first came out of the oven. For those of you that prefer ricotta over cottage cheese (which is usually me as well), I made the recipe as stated with small curd cottage cheese (4%) and enjoyed it just as much. Awesome!!! 11/10/2007 at 10:20pm User: Jenee from Calexico, CA User Rating: I am not a big fan of Lasagna but this is awesome. I've made this for my family and when I have company and everyone loves it. Thanks. Great Taste 10/31/2007 at 10:56am User: Malisa from Ocean View, DE User Rating: Family loved the taste but was a little too runny and soft. I have never had lasagna fall down typicaly stays firm bit this was too watery. The sauce needs work. The cheese mixture was great and surprised.Next time will make my own sauce. Will make again for sure with a different sauce. Simply the BEST (if i could give it 10 stars I would) 10/28/2007 at 09:24pm User: TODD from Sheffield Lake, OH User Rating: I never had Lasagna this good. I added 1 package of frozen spinach thawed and drained completely added to layers evenly and also 1 lb crumbled italian sausage, instead of ground beef, between layers.Everthing else was done as recipe says. I had a party and everyone wanted the recipe,it was simply the best i have ever made or tasted. Very good! 09/23/2007 at 04:17pm User: marjorie from plano, TX User Rating: This recipe was excellent. My family and neighbors loved it. It was so easy and tasty! Bad 09/22/2007 at 12:53pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I'm very surprised to see so many 5 star ratings! This recipe looked so good, but was a complete and total flop. No one in my family liked it! It's AWESOME!!!! 09/10/2007 at 04:17pm User: Penny from Bentonville, AR User Rating: I never thought to put swiss cheese and cream cheese in a lasagna, but it works beautifully. I added some italian sausage and mild country sausage to it and it was wonderful. I may play with this recipe to thicken it up a bit. Delicious! 09/02/2007 at 09:38pm User: Channon from Lawrenceville, GA User Rating: I tweaked the recipe a little bit by adding red pepper, celery, spinach, and my own seasoning. It was soooo good. great recipe 08/29/2007 at 09:17pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Everyone loved it...the next time I make it though, I will make extra sauce and serve it on the side--for those who like a little more tomato. Wonderful 08/28/2007 at 05:14pm User: Michelle from Porter, TX User Rating: OMG I have never tasted any lasagna this mouth watering. It is the best I have ever made. Thank You Paula!!!! Fantastic!! 08/27/2007 at 11:30pm User: Carrie from Green Cove Springs, FL User Rating: I was surprised at how simple this was to make!! It was absolutely delicious! "Lasagna" is just name 08/25/2007 at 12:57am User: amy from Tulsa, OK User Rating: Lasagna doesn't have to be 'authentic' Italian to be good! Anyone every heard of "Mexican' lasagna? It too has layers of sauce and meat and cheese,it's not written anywhere that all lasagna has to be Italian. Excellent! 08/24/2007 at 02:27pm User: Emily from Washington, PA User Rating: I made this lasagna for an office party, and I did not add meat because we have a vegeterian in the office. The lasagna was such a hit! There were so many cheeses in it, you didn't miss the meat at all. Everyone wanted the recipe. This is a wonderful recipe, and if I want to make a dish that pleases everyone, I will make this one!! Delicious!! 08/23/2007 at 05:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was awesome!! My 5 year old son told me he could eat this every night. My husband loved it as well. This will definitely be my go to Lasagna dish to prepare from now on. Thanks Paula!! Delicious 08/14/2007 at 05:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Make sure that you freeze this overnight to avoid "sloppy" sauce in the pan TASTEY! 08/12/2007 at 07:26pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was such an easy recipe to prepare, and the flavors were abundant! My boyfriend loved it, and is requesting it for dinner with friends next week! EASY and YUMMMY! 08/12/2007 at 02:57am User: Jennifer from butler, GA User Rating: Was excellant and like with most recipes I make it a little different to suit my taste. I put more garlis and more seasonings. And subed a few things but overall was the same recipe! and this was a HUGE hit. I made it for my husbands birthday, and now I am making it for my brothers birthday tommorow! Wish me luck!! :-) Best Ever! 08/07/2007 at 05:23pm User: Teri from Glendive, MT User Rating: I have made traditional lasagna for years and came across this recipe and thought I would be brave and give it a try...WOW!!! the best I have ever tasted and my boyfriend told me to never make my old lasagna again. I have to agree with him. Best recipe ever 08/05/2007 at 02:23pm User: WENDY from Fresno, CA User Rating: This was truly the best Lasagna I hav ever had. I did alter the recipe a bit and used Ricota cheese instead of the cottage cheese. My husband ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner then breakfast again!! He couldn't get enough of it. Keep goin' Back 07/29/2007 at 07:44pm User: Heather from Fond du Lac, WI User Rating: I have tried a couple other recpes for lasagna since making this one, the most recent being Emerils Manly Man Lasagna.I still think Paulas wins hands down!( Even if some claim and are seemingly offended that it is not what they would call authentic ) Best Ever 07/19/2007 at 12:49pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was easy and a BIG hit with everyone!!! Loved it! 07/17/2007 at 01:30pm User: Christy from Seattle, WA User Rating: I have made this lasagna several times now and it is always a hit. I have heard best lasagna I have ever had more than once from my friends and family. The cheese can be expensive, but you can always substitute with what works for your budget. Oh my gosh!! 07/02/2007 at 01:22pm User: Debbie from Parrott, GA User Rating: This is the best lasagna ever. I was skeptical about cream cheese and cheddar cheese but it was great. This is a very rich dish. I use 1 lb ground round and 1/2 lb italian sausage. I am making this for the third time tonight and can't wait. The second time I made it I used ricotta cheese because that is what I have always used but it is much better withh cottage cheese. I mix my cream cheese and cottage together and it spreads easier. This freezes good too. Paula's done it again! 06/29/2007 at 01:32am User: Anonymous User Rating: This lasagna is different from the one I usually make. It doesn't contain the vegatables or cheese I usually use, but it is very good. It is also fairly easy to make compared to more traditional recipes for lasagna. The cream cheese makes it really rich and creamy! Prepared it for Father's Day and there is no question that I will be making it often. Um, no 06/25/2007 at 07:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was bad, very bad. An Italian would be ashamed to see cottage cheese going into a lasagne. And cream cheese? Paula, it is not right to call this dish lasagne, it is obviously confusing viewers who have never had a real lasagne. What was the Food Network thinking, allowing this? Not bad!! :) 06/25/2007 at 06:25pm User: Amy from Oxford, GA User Rating: I have my own homemade lasagna recipe and decided to try this one. I was a little worrried that there might be too much cheese but I was wrong. I will be making this recipe from now on. One thing I did to make the cream cheese melt more was to put it out and let it come to room temperature. The cheese was soft and melted better. Tasty tasty tasty 06/04/2007 at 07:18pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I loved this recipe. My husband ate about half of it the evening I made it. A great and easy dish to make! very Yummy!! 06/04/2007 at 03:04pm User: amanda from newport, KY User Rating: This recipe was a great variation from your basic italian lasagna, i loved the cream cheese in it!! MY husband and i do not normally like lasagna, but we loved this! Best Lasagna 06/04/2007 at 12:53pm User: Nicole from Moreno Valley, CA User Rating: This lasagna is the best I have ever had! I have made it 2 times and everyone loves it. I am going to try making it with ground turkey this time instead of the ground beef to make it a little less fatty. It is very rich but, what lasagna isn't. If you are looking for something to please the crowd this is it. This is the recipe that got me to actually register for FN.com 06/02/2008 at 01:53pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My boyfriend has been craving lasagna for a while and I finally picked a recipe to try out. It was a LOT of work (I would not call it easy, maybe intermediate) but VERY well worth it. When we had those first bites he was really impressed. Even though all I did was follow the recipe now he thinks I can cook. Hehe. PERFECT RECIPE FOR LASAGNA! 03/28/2008 at 02:31am User: Juanita from Hayward, CA User Rating: This is an excellent recipe as is however I did substitute 1-1/2 lbs. of Italian sausage for the ground beef and omitted the "house" seasoning. This worked out perfectly with the right balance of salt and spice. Also, I used 'No Boil' lasagna noodles to save time and fuss. I didn't use the technique mentioned to thicken the sauce as these noodles apparently absorbed the excess liquid that some have complained about. I was able to serve my family picture perfect, delicious slices of lasagna. I should say that we are a family of six ranging in age from 9 to 52 and everyone loved it as we had no leftovers! THANKS PAULA! With some tweaking, this is good lasagna! 02/22/2008 at 12:49pm User: Michelle from Mishawaka, IN User Rating: The first time I made this, I followed the directions exactly (I did boil the sauce at the end to get rid of excess liquid). The lasagna was much too rich, and there was way too much meat, not enough sauce, WAY TOO MUCH CHEESE. And it turned out runny. However, it was much better the next day reheated, in fact, a coworker at work tried it, and she made it herself the next day. So I wanted to try it again, but changed a few things: used 3/4 lb Italian sausage instead of 1.5 lbs ground meat, omitted Gruyere cheese (not worth the expense, and there was too much cheese anyway), omitted cream cheese (made it too rich), used ricotta instead of cottage cheese (made the lasagna thicker instead of runny), and doubled the sauce, but boiled it the last 20 mins, plus boiled it with the sausage for another 20 mins. The results were AWESOME! I liked the sauce so much that I made more of the sauce another day (quadrupled it) and froze it in separate packages for pasta. Thanks Paula! ABSOLUTELY DE-LISH!!!! 02/15/2008 at 05:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This was such an amazing dish!!! Everyone absolutely loved it, so cheesy and flavorful...Thank you Ms. Paula. AWESOME 02/12/2008 at 06:47pm User: Kimberly from CORAL SPRINGS, FL User Rating: I was hesitant at first to make this for the family but they loved it and it is a great change from the old fav TOMATO GRAVY AND RICE THANKS PAULA!!! i wish i tried it earlier 02/05/2008 at 11:27am User: Anonymous User Rating: let me start from saying that my boyfirend is immigrant from central europe and american/italian kitchen does not attract him much. we have our own recipes that we stick to and rarely go wandering looking for adventures in the kitchen. when i decided i want to make lasagna, i didn't even tell him and went shopping by myself. when i started making this and told him it's gonna be lasagna tonight, he was walking around me saying "i dont like this, i dont want this" etc. he didn't even help me saying "i will not eat this". but when the sauce started boiling, he came back to kitchen to investigate if lasagna can smell so good. long story short, the final product that came out of the oven was mind blowing. we both ate hugest portions (good bye diets). Creamy, full of flavor, melts in your mouth! i am salivating just thinking about it. boyfriend asked me "how come you never made this earlier". and i wonder myself. i have missed years of my life without Paula's Lasagna, i can not forgive myself for not trying this earlier. once again, Paula brings the passion for cooking back into my kitchen. never once did i get disappointed with her food. way to go Paula. never mind those haters. :) Really rich, delicious crowd pleaser! 01/30/2008 at 08:09pm User: Lyndsay from Bonney Lake, WA User Rating: This lasagna was really delicious! Gotta love Paula, she really knows how to make a hearty recipe! I used about 3/4 pound of Italian sausage and 3/4 pound of hamburger, instead of all hamburger. I also made half again as much of the sauce, as some other reviews suggested the recipe didn't make enough. The sauce however was too thin, and made the lasagna not hold together when sliced, so I would definately use her thickening tip next time. I really enjoyed the cream cheese in this recipe. I thought it a strange addition at first, but went with it and loved it. Also, I had never made lasagna with cottage cheese instead of ricotta, but it was really good as well. Overall excellent recipe! Great for company! |
