a girl party crowd pleaser 07/10/2008 at 02:11pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I have made this twice now and more girlfriends seem to like it each time but the guys tend to stay away...too healthy for them I suppose?! Tasty Snack or Lunch 06/08/2008 at 11:41pm User: Andrew from Seattle, WA User Rating: I took the advice of some other reviewers here and added some grilled chicken breast which definitely makes it a more complete meal. Also added some dried cranberries which peps up the flavor as well. The only tricky part is getting your carrot "ribbons" to be right, but if you are ok with them not being uniform and don't press too hard with your peeler you should be good. Highly recommend. Try with hot curry for more flavor. This recipe is an easy snack as all that takes any time is the carrot shaving. It is also great to make in larger batches and put in plastic containers for some easy at work lunches. Very simple (and delicious)! 04/22/2008 at 02:07am User: SEAN from WASHINGTON, DC User Rating: It was a bit of a pain using my veggie peeler to make the carrot shavings, but this salad over all was really easy to make for a great result in flavor and color. I had some leftover dill vinaigrette that I used instead of her curry vinaigrette and I also added some chopped scallion just because. I'd also plan on one to two carrots per person rather than doing them by weight. A pound and a half is a lot of carrot! Excellent! 04/21/2008 at 02:00pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My family loved this one. It is light and crispy as well as healthy! Fabulous salad 04/02/2008 at 10:33am User: Lori from Glendale, AZ User Rating: This salad was easy to make and such a nice escape from everyday green salad. The curry is not overpowering, its just really tasty!!! Delicious and so easy to make! 03/16/2008 at 11:27pm User: Pam from Minnetonka, MN User Rating: I saw this recipe on Giada's TV show and thought it sounded yummy. Well, it was. I served it as a side dish (with pork loin) but see how it could just as easily be a light and refreshing lunch on it's own. As I read the reviews before making it, I added 1/2 TBS of curry first, tasted it and went for the entire 1 TBS that the recipe called for. Not overpowering at all but just downright delicious. Blah 09/12/2007 at 05:08pm User: Cora from Houston, TX User Rating: This was easy to make but the dressing is just too intense. We didn't even finish eating it. Great for non-salad eaters 09/01/2007 at 05:39pm User: Michele from Chicago, IL User Rating: I'm not big on the traditional lettuce salads, so this was fabulous. I used half the amount of curry suggested and it was good, but I think I'll trust the recipe next time and try the whole amount. I did add some grilled chicken, per the suggestion of someone else on here. I also added some fresh spinach to make this a main course salad. Very interesting 09/01/2007 at 11:48am User: Jerod from jacksonville, FL User Rating: I just whisked up the dressing instead of dirtying up the processor and used 1/2 the oil. This salad was really interesting and different. I wasn't sure about it and next thing I know, I had eaten every bit of it (I made 1/2 recipe). I might like to chop up the carrot strips a bit next time. They were pretty long. Fit for raw food enthusiasts 08/28/2007 at 04:45pm User: Lydia from Southwest Ranches, FL User Rating: Excellent recipe for a unique salad - a real treat for raw food adherents and anyone who enjoys a really good salad. Make sure to get a good quality curry for the dressing. Excellent combo of spices & ingredients 08/26/2007 at 04:35pm User: cd from monroe, MI User Rating: I used just a dash of pepper, but i can't wait to share this recipe at a family gathering. Pretty good 08/16/2007 at 01:52am User: Xochi from Davis, CA User Rating: Decent recipe, very unique, not my favorite but still quite good. Incredibly easy and quick to make. Do the dressing ahead of time to save yourself the trouble. Great Curry Pear Salad 08/10/2007 at 04:58pm User: Walter from Macomb, MI User Rating: This is a great combination. She talked about doing well on health eating habits, this is a great recipe. A lot of work, but absolutely fabulous 08/10/2007 at 10:54am User: Anonymous User Rating: It was a lot of work to shave 8 carrots into ribbons, but it tasted absolutely fabulous. I wonder if it'll taste as good if I buy shredded carrots? The kids love it! 08/08/2007 at 08:14pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My kids saw Giada make this and said they wanted to try it. We all thought it was terrific. I didn't have fresh parsley, so I used dry and put it into the dressing after blending it. It was wonderful! Crowd Pleaser! 08/06/2007 at 01:28pm User: Michelle from Chicago, IL User Rating: I often avoid sweeter salads, but this one is a hit! My dinner guests loved it, and I can't wait to finish the leftovers for lunch. The spiciness of the curry pairs so well with the sweet pears and honey. The only alteration I made was to only add a little lemon zest and juice to brighten up the vinaigrette. Next time I will add raisins for extra color and sweetness. So Good!!!! Delicious new taste 08/05/2007 at 08:12pm User: Anonymous User Rating: A quick, easy recipe with a delicious new flavor. I will fix this again. I did add some lime juice to keep the pears from turning brown. It was just a good. Shaved Carrot and Pear Salad with Curry Vinaigrette 08/05/2007 at 04:18pm User: Ron from Klamath Falls, OR User Rating: Excellent Dish. I added some fresh baked tuna loin. Superb! curry and carrots are perfectly pear-ed 07/31/2007 at 03:14pm User: bridget from honolulu, HI User Rating: I would never have guessed the musky/spicy taste of curry would accent the crisp/sweet pears and carrot ribbons. This little number scored me big points with some vegetarian friends of mine who were scavenging my fridge for food. I had some left over from a picnic the day before. They were blown away. I only wish i could have taken all the credit! Yummy!! 07/19/2007 at 06:14pm User: Ashley from Bartlett, TN User Rating: I thought this was a fantastic recipe! It was colorful, fresh and perfect for summer! meh.... 07/10/2007 at 10:43pm User: sarah from costa mesa, CA User Rating: i didn't have the right peeler for the carrots, that was a pain. the pears where very firm but with the dressing on they didn't last long so no leftovers... nice and refreshing 07/03/2007 at 03:11pm User: Lori from Raymore, MO User Rating: This salad was great! It was different and tasty. The only change I made was using cider vinegar because I was out of white wine vinegar. Delicious entree with some additions 07/03/2007 at 10:45am User: Courtney from New York, NY User Rating: The flavors of this dish are fantastic, and I don't usually like carrots! I added 2 avocados, some slivered almonds, and grilled chicken to make a main course salad. Make more of the dressing to cover the extra ingredients. To do it vegetarian as a main dish, chick peas work. Wow 06/29/2007 at 02:35pm User: Deborah from Rochester, NY User Rating: I went and made this for an Crowd and everyone love it they want me to copy the recipe for them so they could share with others. Very Tasty 06/19/2007 at 04:45pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I loved the dressing delish 06/17/2007 at 10:46am User: ALIYIA from Lumberton, NJ User Rating: This was quick and easy to make. It was also filling. I will definetly make this again and again. The curry added to the vinaigrette give it that kick and suprises you. OH SO TASTY AND ELEGANT 06/17/2007 at 07:51am User: RICHARD from kansas city, MO User Rating: I SERVED IT AT WORK TO MY FELLOW LIBRARIANS MANY OF WHOM ARE VEGOIDS AND THEY ALL LOVED IT. Will make this often. 06/15/2007 at 10:26am User: Kathleen from Port Orange, FL User Rating: Delcious and refreshing. My husband and I loved this. Because I'm always pressed for time, I substituted a bag of shoestring carrots for the shaved carrots, and julienned the pears, and it was fine. Not as classy, but it worked for me. Fantastic Salad 06/13/2007 at 12:12pm User: Catherine from Wilmington, DE User Rating: Added this to our dinner menu last evening and WOW, this is a keeper. The only thing I did different was the curry I only used 1 1/2 teaspoon. My husband loved it and I will be serving this to future company and taking to covered dish events. I'm amazed that someone would think to put pears and carrots together but this was fantastic. Thanks Giada It makes me want to eat healthy!!! 06/12/2007 at 01:53pm User: Lisa from VALRICO, FL User Rating: Giada's carrot salad was the perfect atypical salad. The flavors blended wonderfully and I am not a curry fan. Loved it. It was hard to stop eating it and who says that about raw vegetables??? AWESOME 06/11/2007 at 07:15pm User: Anonymous User Rating: EASY TO MAKE, FAST, HEALTHY AND MOST OF ALL DELICIOSO... pretty but be careful 06/11/2007 at 04:44pm User: DAVID from Denver, CO User Rating: WAY too much curry for our taste. Start tasting with about a teaspoon and increase it as you like but I think most people will stop way short of a tablespoon. Very Tasty 06/11/2007 at 04:42pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I really enjoyed this dish although I added some more honey than required (about 3 TBSP instead of 1) as I did not find it sweet enough. The curry flavour is very mild but effective. I loved it! 06/10/2007 at 05:45pm User: Treva from Covington, GA User Rating: I am not one for pears, but my husband is. I had one in the house when I saw this episode on tv. I started with the curry powder and vinegar and added the rest to taste. Really delicious - great summer salad! Didn't work 06/09/2007 at 07:16pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This tasted funny to me, the flavors didn't go together. I loved it! 06/09/2007 at 04:02pm User: Nisansala from Hoboken, NJ User Rating: Loved this recipe- specially my husband. I have also added half of granny smith apple. It was so tasty! Thanks Giada! Keep up the great work. |
