Hit of the party!

This dish looked & sounded great when I saw it on the show, so I thought it would be the perfect thing to bring to a summer pool party. I used baby portabella mushrooms & plain old thick-cut bacon. For my taste, BBQ sauce was a little overpowering, so I used a 50/50 mixture of BBQ & sweet teriyaki sauce for glaze. Since I needed over 100 pieces, I found it more time efficient to bake them in large batches in the oven & then toss in a skillet in smaller batches to crisp them. They disappeared quickly & I received several requests for the recipe. They were the hit of the party!

Excellent recipe!

One of the easiest yummy recipes

The recipe is so straightforward but a couple of tips: use big mushrooms and use a sweeter vs. spicy bbq sauce. You'll want to be sure to wrap the mushrooms up well, otherwise you'll need to use toothpicks or something to keep them wrapped.

The mushrooms turned out just as described. They were easily prepped and completed, and disappeared nearly as quickly as I could get them out of the skillet!

These are quick and delicious!

I made these Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms last night as an appitizer, they're so quick and easy... and delicious! If you cook them cap-side down first, then finish them cap-side up, the cap captures some of the bacon fat and mixes with the BBQ sauce... it's wonderful! Try it, you'll love it!

The mushrooms were easy and great tasting. We baked them 1/2 way in the oven and then threw them on the BBQ to finish them. When we put them out, they were gone within 5 minutes. They are really good and easy. Definitely a recipe we'll use again and again.

so yummy!

I had trouble with the bacon falling off so I do them in the oven. I just put them on a broiler pan at 400 and turn on the broiler to crisp them up at the end.

I did not look this recipe up, I just winged it everybody loved them.I both baked and fried them WITH the BBQ sauce, the bacon didn't get crisp! I realized I should have crisped up the baon first. So then I looked up the recipe. I noticed the recipe was SUBMITTED BY A VIEWER not Adrian.

Great Minus the BBQ Sauce

This recipe sounded so good, I just had to try it. I tried it with and without the BBQ sauce, as I am not really a fan of BBQ sauce. We found it delightful without the BBQ sauce. With the BBQ, that was the only flavor you tasted. Without the BBQ sauce you could really enjoy the taste of the bacon and mushrooms. It doesn't have to have a sauce. Great job, Paul!

Great flavor but didn't stay together

We loved the flavor of the pepper bacon, mushrooms and BBQ sauce. However, I followed the directions which indicated the bacon would stick to the mushrooms. Didn't work - the bacon came loose during the sauteeing and turning, then when I stirred in the BBQ sauce, the bacon strips separated completely. We ate it with toothpicks, stabbing a bacon strip then a mushroom. I'd love some tips as to what to do differently next time so they stay in one piece and can be eaten with less mess.

This is tasty and delicious. I think anything with bacon is REAL comfort food. However, this is not the kind of food that I crave in the summer.

Love the show and these mushrooms are excellent! Interesting debate on washing mushrooms. Anybody see Alton Brown's show on food myths? Mushrooms DO NOT retain water if they are quickly rinsed and dried. He proved this scientifically. Nothing is worse that gritty mushrooms.

OUR FAMILY LOVES THE SHOW!!! Had these as apps last night for dinner. Some of my mushrooms where to big and bacon fell off. I would recommend the smallest mushrooms worked best. Do NOT wash, wipe clean. Dog gone GOOD!!!!! The WW in my family said 12 points for 2 is alot BUT worth the splurge!!! I will try these with shrimp GOOD IDEA thank you ;)

Quick rinse is ok just don't soak mushrooms

YUMMY I love these! And it is a fun appetizer that doesn't have cheese (I am always looking for yummy apps for the "lactose intolerant" in my life). I am going to try the other reviewer's idea with shrimp too (for the "mushroom intolerant" in my life!) There are different schools of thought relative to cleaning mushrooms - if you don't have time to wipe off each one individually, a quick rinse will not typically make them tough. Just don't throw them in a bowl of water!

Don't Rinse

I was surprised to read where the young man who made this recipe (one who aspires to be a Food Network host), would say "rinse the mushrooms." Please DO NOT RINSE THE MUSHROOMS. Just wipe them gently with a paper towel. Other than that, the recipe is terrific, but not unique.

These were great!

Great job Adrien. This is a classic recipe I learned in culinary school. I have also used chesnuts, pineapple, or shrimp instead of mushrooms and Catalina instead of BBQ sauce. A great idea! Good luck! I hope someone at the Foodnetwork reads these reviews. I was very shocked and upset at this episode--the comment about Rory's outfit was SO out of line. As a woman who works in a predominantly male dominated field (I am a Mathematician) I cringed to think that my colleagues may judge me or the way I dress in that way. Shame on you--and honestly, I remember Alton Brown making similiar comments to a contestant last year and telling her to fix her shirt. How hypocritical of the Foodnetwork given how many of your own female stars dress?! Make up your mind. I will continue to watch this network reluctantly. I was truly disappointed last night. Sorry to get off the subject as this should be about FOOD--go Adrien! This recipe rocked!

Bacon Doesn't Stick!
03/24/2008 at 11:46pm
User: Mary from Simi Valley, CA    User Rating:
this seemed like such an easy recipe, I should have known better. I wrapped my mushrooms as directed, however the bacon didn't stick to the mushroom and just fell off the mushroom. At that point they were too hot and greasy to try to put a toothpick through them. I had to scrap them as guests were arriving as I was cooking them.

Fantastic
