BEST EVER ASPARAGUS RECIPE

I'm a huge asparagus fan but have never found "the" recipe until I tried this one after I saw Rory make it on Rachel Ray. Its simple and the asparagus always comes out perfect - even if you leave it in the oven longer than indicated. Its just fantastic.

I tried Rory's recipe and loved it. My family truly enjoyed it. It has great flavor and to be truthful, I never cared much for asparagus, but Rory's made me love it. I wish we could see more of Rory in Guest Spots on the Food Network. She is dynamite.

easy for first time cook

this recipe is pretty easy even for a first time cook - i especially like the asparagus since I have for many years resigned myself to just having steamed asparagus w/ butter.

This is a great recipe for either family fare or entertaining. Rory's directions are detailed yet simple. I liked the tip re cedar shingles. My three grown sons along with my husband thought this was a real hit.

The sugar coated asparagus is awesome!

Haven't tried the steak yet but the asparagus recipe is awesome. I never liked asparagus before- who knew sugar & lemon zest was all it needed? Way to go Rory- wish you had won Next Food Network Star- you deserved it!

I didn't try the other part of the recipe yet (although it looked really good) since I don't eat a lot of meat (sorry Emeril-and no pork!) but, the asparagus was SO GOOD....I used brown sugar instead of regular sugar This was better than I thought. I did use a bit less sugar, though.

tried it and was way too sweet for me. what a way to ruin great asparagus with all that sugar. leave the sugar off and just use the oil. will be much better tasting in my personal opinion!!!!

The veg alone is worth 4 stars

Excellent method for asparagus -- worked well for quartered zucchini, too. Although I normally wouldn't rate a recipe based on one component alone, I just had to make an exception because the sugared veg was so above average.

I followed Rory's instructions for the asparagus exactly and am sitting here eating, what is in my opinion....heaven on a plate! 10 minutes on my gas grill outside...turned it after 5 to ensure even cooking....that lovely orange zest all over it....just fabulous. It's incredible. You'll never have trouble getting kids to eat asparagus ever again. Rory most definitely has my vote. Oh, and for all of you complaining about the health issues of this meal...get over yourself. This isn't the Food Health Network. There are obvious programming choices for people with health concerns, ie. Ellie Krieger on Saturday mornings. Rory never once looked at the Rachael Ray audience and said, "Boy howdy..do I have a HEALTHY meal for you people!" So shut up and eat, enjoy your life. Go play with your kids outside afterwards, burn calories. Figure it out. Stop complaining on the review boards.

Oiling the steaks before grilling? Umm - NO! Try it this way.. Season with coarse salt (kosher or sea) and fresh cracked pepper. Use an OAK plank instead of cedar. Cook to desired temperature - drizzle olive oil or herb butter on the steaks after they come off the grill. Let them sit 3-5 minutes. The asparagus is VERY good!

WOW!!!!

All i have to say is....WOW!!!! that was awesome! Just watch out on putting too much oil on the meat and the asparagus because then there will be a pool on your plate. Otherwise it was SO good! will def. be making it A LOT more!

These recipes would make Paula Deen blush!! So much fat and sugar in one meal. I don't eat "healthy" but even I recognize too much of a bad thing.

Thanks Rory! We just finished the steaks and they were excellent. We did not have planks so we just put the steaks on the grill. We also used some of the extra butter on garlic toast - Yummy! This one will be added to our list of favorites. Good luck to you and the other finalists.
