Delicious!

I've made this recipe twice. The first time, I skipped the onions because my husband doesn't care for them. The sandwich was still delicious. The second time, I sauteed mushrooms instead of onions, and the sandwich was fabulous!! I agree, the mustard/mayo adds so much to the flavoring of the sandwich. We used demi-baguettes (warmed in the oven) and they worked perfectly. This method of cooking a steak makes it turn out just right. Great job, Ina! More, please!

This is my favorite recipe of all time. All of the flavors and textures are completely, perfectly compatible. So simple but the three men in my family rate it 5 stars. I'm never nervous about preparing one of Ina's recipes for the very first time with important guests coming. We love you Ina!

I made this last weekend and was VERY impressed! It was wonderful and so easy! I skipped the arugula b/c my grocery store was out and it was still great! Also, I used Kaiser rolls b/c I couldn't find the foccia bread. I wouldn't change a thing about it and definitely recommend to others! This is a keeper...I will make it over and over!!!

I made this for lunch for guests. Everyone raved about them and it was so-o easy. The sauce has an incredible flavor. I served with a simple green salad and it complemented the sandwich perfectly.

If I had fixed this for my husband early on in our relationship I'm sure he would have proposed sooner. This was awesome. The blend of a good steak with onions, mustard mayo and the arugula was just perfect. A special occasion treat. Thanks, Ina, you are a master at your trade indeed. Simply FABULOUS!!!

Saw the show and decided to try the recipe. This is a great, quick and easy meal that impresses even the most finicky eater. I will cut my cooking time down 2 minutes for medium rare. I also will use a good toasted white bread. The ciabata was just too much. Invest in some good meat. Its worth it!

Another winner from Ina. This sandwich was a huge hit at my house. As for those who perpetually fret about calories in Ina's recipes, I have two words for you: portion control. I own all of Ina's cookbooks and can always count on her recipes to please my friends and family. My reputation as a cook is largely due to her cookbooks and the tips I've learned from her show. I'm sorry for the narrow lives and small worlds inhabited by the people who use this review space as a forum to critique the personal appearance of Ina and other Food Network personalities.

In response to "Anonymous" comment about Ina. I think she is truly lovely. I wish I had her complexion and beautiful hair. She has an easy going, carefree spirit, a wonderful talent, a beautiful home in the Hampton and an absolutely adorable husband who so obviously dotes on her. She has it all. We should all be so lucky. And, she is one of my most favorite chefs and I love her recipes!!!!

This recipe was great. The mustard mayo went surprisingly well with the steak and arugula combination. Followed the direction exactly for the steak and it turned out great. All I have to say is.. YUMMY.

Cooking Times are deceiving

Our New York steaks were over an inch thick. After the 1min per side searing, I set the timer for 6mins. The recipe called for 7-10mins, but we like our meat medium/rare, so to be on the safe side, I took it off after 6mins on the low flame. The meat was well done. The recipe calls for the onion rings to cook for 10mins on a medium flame. After 15, ours were still white. It took about 20mins for them to be caramelized. The mayo dressing was great. We left out the sour cream and added some garlic. It was delicious. Next time I will not trust the recipes for cooking times. They weren't even in the ballpark.

Wow - the steak sandwich is awesome. Loved the sauce and the way she cooked the steak is the best! My whole family - teenagers and husband - loved it. We had it with rosemary roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, and green beans. Can't wait to try the brownies she made too!

Great sandwich and so easy to make. I skipped the arugula so I guess I went a little less gourmet but very comforting. Gonna try mushrooms with onions next time.
