tasty and popular treat!

As suggested, I melted the tablespoon of butter that was added to the melted chocolate, which helped keep the chocolate from hardening too quickly. I also baked the pecans at 350, not 400, and for 5 minutes instead of 7. they were plenty cooked by then. huge crowd-pleaser, but a little sweet for my taste. It could use a little less milk or white and a little more dark or semi-sweet chocolate

King of Gumbo makes you look like the star when you make this choco-holic's dream dessert. I added dried cranberries soaked in Gran Marnier...in case it wasn't decadent enought!

Wow, What a Bark!!!

My wife and I tried this bark when we were over at a friends house. This bark has to be tasted! It is incredible how delicious we found it to be. Everything in this recipe goes together for a wonderful taste. Our friend said she found this recipe on this website and that it is Emiril's recipe. We went to this website and found it and I made it a recipe for my Recipe Box immediately.

I had a lot of trouble with the nuts. Wish I would have seen some of the comments before I tried this recipe! On my first try I got clumps of glaze that did not adhere to the nuts. Threw that out and had to go to the store for more nuts. Second try the coating worked better, but just like someone said earlier, they burned in the oven. Third attempt, guess I was too afraid to cook them long enough and I end up with the globs of glaze again. Ugh. Probably should have given up, but I needed them as gifts for coworkers in the morning. I ended up toasting the nuts on the stove top and instead of the glaze I just tossed in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cyanne. From there I had no trouble at all and was very pleased with how it turned out. Huge hit with everyone and I ended up hoarding some for myself!

OH YEAH!!!

A chocolate lovers dream!

I made this and people loved it. I work with 50 people, and people freaked out at how good it was. Important:::: Do not cook the nuts more than 4 minutes on low heat, and use a timer! Also, I baked the nuts at 400 degrees for 2 minutes, not the six minutes the recipe called for. At six minutes, I had blackened pecans and had to throw them away. It's a wonderful and delicious confection. You'll make new friends, and I got marriage offers. : )

Burned candy pecans will surely stink up your house!

My candied pecans burned in the oven and stunk up my house, so I didn't proceed with the recipe. However, since I already bought all the ingredients, I may try this again with the oven set at 350 instead of 400.

what did I miss?

I baked the peacans just as directed and they burned, not to mention they looked like a big cluppy mess. When I went back and re-watched the show I noticed it said to cook them for 6 minutes at 350 NOT 400 as stated here. The chocolate turned out fine but the peacans were a big waste of time and money. I will never make this again.

Somethin' ain't right here!

I am not a novice baker but this recipe is either missing an instruction or I wasn't "holdin' my mouth right!" Everything was fine until I added the T. of butter to each chocolate. Each started to harden too much, couldn't even get smooth enough over the hot steam again. Added a little heavy cream to the mix and at least it was pourable but then it wouldn't harden enough to break into pieces. I suspect that the recipe should have said "melted butter" or at least room temp. Anyone have ideas on what to do with a pan full of gooey chocolate?

Not very good

The recipe does not give the amount of spices to use!! The sugar and butter did not come together...it clumped. I did'nt even finish the recipe. I think the recipe does not give enough instructions or something! I through the recipe away immediately

This is a great bark! Very easy & very decorative. The tangy cherries & the spicy pecans are a surprising & delicious complement to the chocolates. If I do this again I think I will substitute dark chocolate for the milk chocolate.

This is a wonderful bark. We soaked the cherries in rum--a tasty addition. Be carefulhow much cayenne you add. We like food spicy, but you just want a slight bite in this recipe.

A little suggestion

I would just suggest substituting 1 cup molasses and 1 cup granulated sugar for every 1 cup of brown sugar.

This recipe was so amazing! Everyone I made it for absolutely loved it! A suggestion on the roasting your pecans, if you use a very large skillet or a wok, you can get a really good effect just doing them on the stovetop! And even slightly overcooked they are still delicious! Thanks!

Tips for the nuts

User: anne from Meridian, ID    User Rating:
I made this for the first time at xmas along with many other treats and this was the favorite. I had the same problem with the nuts and sugar not bonding, but put them in anyway - you got a bite of sugar and nuts, only separately. This time I am making for valentines and I was careful to not overcook; you need to take them out before the sugar starts to separate from the butter in clumps, less than 4 minutes for me. I didn't have a problem with burning and I know my oven is close to accurate so those who got pecan charcoal probably have a hotter oven - few ovens are right on. I also soaked the cherries in grand marnier this time and added just a little extra YUM!

So delicious

Made this as a Holiday gift, and it was fantastic. I burned the first batch of pecans (user error),but the other batches were perfect. The cherries really make this recipe.

I made this for my x-mas plates that I give as gifts, and one of my recipients was angry that I made it (because it was too good and she couldn't stop eating it) and one came and said his wife told him to get the recipe from me. For one batch, I used the andes peppermint baking pieces, and that added a really great flavor to the other two chocolates. It was decadent.
