Very easy pulled pork

After watching the show, I bought a pork shoulder roast and followed the recipe. It was very easy to follow and most ingredients were already on hand. Needless to say after a while in the oven, several came through and wondered what was smelling so good! It was enjoyed by all and is in my recipe folder for later use.

This is as easy as easy gets, and yet the hint of the apple juice and cider vinegar make the pork outstanding. I used baked beans in place of the cole slaw. "It's a keeper"

These BBQ pork sandwiches are among the best I've ever had; tender as can be with just a little kick. So easy to make (my husband tried the recipe first, and he rarely cooks!) and most ingredients come right from the cupboard.

I have made this now in just a few short months about 6 times, today for my office workers--This is hands down a full proof recipe for an "excellent" pulled pork sandwich! I did include the garlic powder as part of the spice rub not to the iiquid. I highly recommend the "Pork Shoulder" cut opposed to "butt" tried both ways 5 out of 6 proves the "shoulder" to turn out best. I took others advice and added 1 tbl of the liquid smoke, it adds great flavor. And finally, cooking this in a Crock Pot is the only way to go, as another reviewer wrote, depending on the size cooking times vary, if using the 4lb or slightly bigger, I went about 6 hrs until when basting I could see it was falling apart. For the office gang I chanced it and bought a 8 lb shoulder, cooked it 8 solid hours on HIGH-it fell apart once cooled. Please be smart and use rubber gloves to shred. One last hint, buy the meat days ahead of time and rub and wrap in the coldest part of your refrig, bring to room temp before oven/crock pot-- Serve with out any doubts, fresh slaw spicy pickles and some good buns-- Your friends will rave about this for days to come and want you to make this dish for all future picnics, or office parties. Emjoy, it's a great recipe--!!

I made this recipe for a BBQ/potluck. I intended to do the sandwiches but it was so good and tender after cooking I served it as is. I put the pan juices in the bottom of a baking dish, pulled the pork and put it in the juices. People LOVED it, it was the hit of the party. Everyone wanted the recipe and to take some home with them. I didn't use the liqued smoke and put the garlic powder in the dry rub.

This was an amazing dish! The whole house smelled great and the pork was so delicious. I don't like apple juice, but this was terrific! I did use 1 tbls of liquid smoke as other reviewers did and it was perfect. This is the first recipe I've tried of Paula's. (I watch my figure, so I can't eat all that butter and cheese.) But now I know why people salivate at her recipes. She is an amazing cook! This was good without the cole slaw too! Thanks Paula!

Paula this is a winning recipe. I read the reviews and decided to cut the liquid by half, worked great. I added more liquid smoke to the liquid ingreadents and rubbed it on the pork before putting the dry rub on. Tastes delicious and it's easy. I cooked this for a large group of 30 people and everyone loved it. It was a bit of a challenge trying to figure the amounts for that many but it worked perfect.

A Hubby Pleaser!

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
My husband is from Memphis, TN, the home of the best pulled pork BBQ ever, and as such, is really hard to please when it comes to BBQ, but I have to tell you, even he conceded that this is as close as you can get without throwing the pork on the grill over the hickory wood fire. I did mine in a crockpot for 4 hours on high, and it turned out just great. The smell of the vinegar was a little off putting, but the end result won out. I used a tablespoon of smoked paprika and a tablespoon of regular and didn't add the Liquid Smoke because I felt it would make it too artificially smoky. The smoked paprika added just the right touch, but next time I would add a full 2 Tablespoons of the smoked paprika instead of just one. I also added a tablespoon of minced garlic to the apple juice and vinegar mixture. We put McClard's BBQ sauce from Hot Springs, AR on it and some Memphis cole slaw...delicious! It turned out great, this will definitely be added to our recipe box. Memphis Cole Slaw 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon ground celery seed 1 Package cole slaw, or 1/2 head of green cabbage, sliced very thin or chopped, however you like it. Mix first 4 ingredients with a whisk. Add cole slaw, mix and chill.

I manage a small bar and am always looking for quick recipes that can be expanded for a large amount of people, but still made on a budget. I tried this recipe on Sunday and it was a great hit! Everyone raved over it. It was so moist. I provided a variety of sauces for my customers to use, but the flavor of the pork was so great that not many people used the sauces, just ate the pork, either in a sandwhich or all by itself. I'll definitely be making it again.

User: Courtney from baltimore, MD    User Rating:
I made this recipe yesterday using my crock pot and I have to say that it was pretty good. However, I feel that the recipe calls for too much cayenne pepper in the rub, making the meat really spicy. Next time, I'll use only 1 tsp and will add the garlic powder to the rub itself.

Really Good

Very good sandwich. Next time my only change will be to cut the cayenne in half and use a little less black pepper. Even my spice loving husband noticed the "kick" in the rub. We used a sweet bbq sauce to counteract the heat and it turned out very tasty. Very easy too. You will end up with a lot of meat so invite some friends over or be prepared for leftovers all week.

Cook on low for 8-10 hours (depending on the size and temp of the pork and crock pot). Come home from work to a delicious aroma and meal.

I made this while we went to the movies. I got everything prepped, put it in the oven, set the oven to automatic, and off we went. When we got home, the meat was done and ready to eat and we loved it! I was leery of the amount of spices for the dry rub, but it worked out perfectly. Its a really easy, really good substitute for the real smoked meat when the weather doesn't allow being outside.

User: Carolyn from Midvale, UT    User Rating:
After trying so many pulled pork recipes, I've finally found myy keeper. I also added more smoke flavoring and used the garlic powder in the dry rub, actually in the wet as well. Much garlic is a good thing! Not being a southerner I was unsure about the vinegar and the cole slaw ON the sandwich. But the vinegar makes it delicious and the cole slow on top is the only way to go! Thanks Paula!

I wanted to make these for a party, so I decided to give them a test run. The result was the absolute best pork sandwiches I have ever tasted, hands down. The meat was unbelievably tender, and the flavor from the sauce & marinade was outta this world. My husband's been telling everyone how amazing they were. I think that next time though I will cut the liquid mixture in half, as there was so much extra. Also I like the little kick from the cayenne, but I might cut that in half too in case not everyone likes spice. But this recipe is a perfect crowd pleaser. It goes down on my list of all time favorites. You rock Paula!

User: AMBER from chino, CA    User Rating:
(Hi, Rebecca!) LOL This is a great recipe. Please note the garlic powder is part of the dry rub and the liquid smoke should be doubled from what is shown here - should be 1 Tbsp. Actually I just cut the wet ingredients in half and threw it in the crockpot on low for 6 hours. It was great. (This is after I let the dry rub sit on the meat overnight.) I also I used less cayenne pepper and it still has some kick but not too much. Protein, veggies, starch - it's an entire meal.

I followed the recipe to the letter, and only used 1/2 TB of the Liquid Smoke. I was also confused about whether the garlic powder should be part of the dry rub or added to the liquid (I added to the liquid, but watched the show again, and it should be part of the rub). In any case, it was the most excellent pulled pork my family ever tasted. Will make again for sure!

I have to admit while this was cooking I didn't like the smell. It just didn't smell good. However, I followed the recipe to the T and did the rub and basting as required. I only used 1/2 tablespoon liquid smoke..should have used a full tablespoon...maybe that's why it's in the recipe twice. I watched the show but couldn't remember how much Paula put in. Once this roast was done, WOW, what wonderful flavor, especially from the rub! It's the best pulled pork I've tasted in a very long time.

Easy and wonderful!

Followed the recipe to the letter, incl. 1 TB liquid smoke, and it was delicious. Let the dry rubbed roast sit in the fridge overnight. While roasting I checked the temperature after 3 and a half hours and the thermometer immediately jumped to almost 200 so I was worried it'd be dry. But I let it sit out of the oven with the lid on for about 15 minutes, then put it on a platter for another 15 minutes to rest, then shredded it into heavenly delight. Had the in-laws over for dinner and they loved it too - MIL is a great cook and FIL is very picky, so that's saying a lot.

The pork was amazing: moist, delicious, full of flavor, and--most importantly--super easy to prepare. Big pay off for little effort! We used just 1/2 tbsp. of the liquid smoke but will probably use a full tbsp. next time. (I wish people who haven't prepared recipes on the web site would refrain from rating them until they've actually tried them.)

Made In NESCO - It was great!

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I have made a similar rubbed pulled pork without the basting liquid in my NESCO cooker (not a slow cooker, but an "electric roaster"), and it turned out great. Even though I watched the show and thought Paula used 1TBL of the liquid smoke, a little goes a long way, so I just used 1/2 TBL. It was great. Since hubby tops it with BBQ sauce on the bun, anyway, I didn't worry about it.

Just a Question

Does anyone remember watching the show and how much liquid smoke actually went in? The written instructions list liquid smoke two separate times.
