I was so skeptical about this recipe- olives, raisins, meat, sweet potatoes? The flavor combinations are GREAT! I almost left the raisins out, but read the review that warned me not to, and they were so right. The raisins really are spectacular. I did make one sub, though, by using ground turkey instead of ground beef. I will definitely make this low-fat and yet very tasty recipe again.

My husband is Cuban-American who grew up in Florida and Georgia so when I mentioned that I would be making a picadillo shepherd's pie, he was ecstatic. He usually disappears on my knitting night with the girls but stuck around when I said I was making this for them. I modified this just a bit. Since tomatoes are in season and so sweet right now, I used a big handful of fresh plum tomatoes and added some apple juice. And just 'cause it's a picadillo of sorts, I also a dab of achiote seasoning I always have in stock. I don't like foods that are too spicy and I cut out some of the chili powder but should've used the original amount in. It didn't have enough kick and maybe that's because I used mild jalapeno peppers from the jar. Anyway...it was a big hit and I'll definitely make it again. Very easy to make!

I really enjoyed this "Shepards Pie"; however, it was extremely spicy and my kids did not enjoy it at all. The flavors blended together nicely (i.e. raisins and olives, etc.)...maybe I will make again, but with the jalapeno if children will be eating it.

unbelievably flavorful

delicious spicy filling cooled by the slightly sweet topping. I did not have fresh coriander so I didnt use it, but I followed the rest of the recipe exactly. My roomate and I devoured 2/3 of the dish in one sitting. Very easy, tasty recipe. I will make this again

This dish is the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy! What ever you do dont' leave out the raisins - they are an amazing contrast to the jalapeno's! I would highly recomend this one for company!

I didn't mind this recipe but I didn't LOVE it only because it is an odd combination. With the raisins and sweet potatoes, it tasted a bit like someone threw an enchilada and a slice of pumpkin bread into a blender. LOL. My DH loves it though, so I think I'm going to be eating a lot of it.
