This cake was so dry we couldn't eat it. We too had to throw it away. And the amount of work! Terrible outcome.

Very nice cake. I thought 3 Tablespoons of poppy seed was too much, so next time I'll try only 2. I didn't make the glaze, but next time I'll just make a white glaze. The syrup was great! The cake overall was VERY lemony and sharp - I got great reviews.

I found this to be a wonderful, can't-fail recipe. For those who found it dry, there are a couple of explanations here and a couple of suggestions to avoid it. First of all, I'm from Arizona, and the air here is in general super dry for much of the year, which definitely makes a difference in the moistness of just about any recipe. I pretty much automatically either add an additional egg, or an extra 2-4 tablespoons of oil. Additionally, when removing from the oven, don't wait too long for it to cool before sealing it well in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. We just dry this stuff out very, very fast. You still need to let it rest out of the oven before cutting it -- just don't wait too long before sealing it up. The outside will be soggier than normal, but ya just can't have it all when living in the Southwest! Put a great lemon glaze on it while the cake is still warm (or even hot, or use the lemon sugar syrup mentioned in this recipe, and it should seal in the moisture pretty well. Just don't let it sit out too long!

I followed this recipe to a "T" and it was DRY. Not worth the effort to put into it. It was put out for one of my Easter desserts and everyone felt the same way. I couldn't even give it away to people that never bake (they didn't want it, so I ended up throwing it out.

This cake was moist, easy to make, and very tasty, everyone loved it, but I found the lemon glaze a tad to lemony. It made me pucker. Will make again however, with slight modifications.

I was disappointed that after all the effort this recipe took,it wasn't very moist. My friend tried it and had the exact response. I did not over cook it and I wrapped it tightly overnight as instructed but was surprised that with 13 tablespoons of butter, that it was some what dry. The flavor was good but I don't know if I would try it again.
