I used homemade chicken stock, and two pan-fried boneless pork chops and deleted the peas and corn. This soup woud also be good with limas or okra added. Even my very picky 12 year old loved the soup.

This recipe was really easy. The taste was incredible. We saw it on the Neeley's last year and have been cooking it since. So glad it's wintertime.

This was the first time I ever had really cook vegetable soup and everybody loved the way it turned out. The only thing I did was add more vegetable stock. I seasoned my porkchops the way I normally would.

I have made this recipe three times and each time it has been better. So much so that this last time my husband thought this was a soup I purchased from a restaurant. It is the bomb!!!

I have to say in all of the years that I have been watching Food Network and trying recipes out, only a handful were actually good enough for me to recommend and this falls into that category. This is an amazing dish, full of flavor. I followed the recipe almost to the tee- only adding extra potatoes, garlic powder and 1 extra pork chop to the pot. I intend to try it with chicken next, I just wont fry the chicken.Even though I don't normally "fry" meat- I did follow the recipe and fry the pork chops which I think assisted in giving it so much flavor. And don't add salt aside from your own bowl- ours did not require any additional seasoning,.
I served it with Gina and Pat's "Broccoli, Cheddar Cornbread" and the meal was a hit!

This is a great quick, cheap recipe, that does not require too much work. It smelled so good that my husband had to get a sample bowl before dinner was served. I read most of the reviews, and I totally disagree with the soup having no flavor. I just added a lil extra seasoning and it turned out great. I made buttermilk cornbread to eat along with the soup. 2 thumbs up from me!

While they were making this on TV I thought it was more of a stew than a soup. After making this myself I know it is a stew. I have to be true I struggled on the rating between 3, 4, or 5. It has good bones but really needs work and it is something I have never seen before; and I will make this again....so the 5 stars.

I never put whole of anything in a soup or a stew so when it was finished I took out the chops and cut them in pieces and put back in the pot. I also used more than the recipe called for. The previous writers are right, this is bland. Salt and Pepper don't help so I added El Pato sauce to the mix at the end to boost the flavor. I will have to think about it and add other seasonings during the cooking process next time.

One person wrote they thought the recipe was bland because of the frozen vegies. fresh or canned peas and corn do not hold up in soup or stews very well. I have always used the frozen; they don't seem to turn to mush during the cooking process. I also used my own stewed tomatos instead of the diced canned, the added garlic and parsley in the stewed helped the flavor a GREAT deal.

This is quite interesting and worth the try. However you do need to add your own touches to suit the end product to your own taste. The stew really has a subtle flavor and is a bit disappointing at first.

Next time I plan on adding some browned spicey sausage to the mix and see where that takes me.

    Good luck!

This was a great meal. It was cheap, easy and tasty. My only concern was with the lack of flavor. I think it needs more seasoning. I don't know if it was my fault or not, but it came out to have a consistency of a stew rather than a soup, but I didn't mind. I can't wait to make it again.
