This was the worst cake I've ever tried. It was dry and the frosting wasn't smooth at all...it was like crunching on sugar particles.

Made this for family gathering of about 20 and they absolutely raved about it! Couldn't believe it was a cake mix. I did use yellow cake mix, nothing else changed. I had NO problem with the icing, was perfect.

Made this cake for my brother's birthday. Everyone loved it, no leftovers, will definitly make again. I had read the reviews so did add a little extra milk to the frosting to keep it spreadable. Also think next time will add walnuts.

The frosting is tricky. I would advise having a 2nd set of hands to whisk the icing over low heat while you apply it to the cake. This icing goes from drippy and warm to spreadable very quickly, It then stays in the spreadable state for a very short time before setting up. Work quickly and cross your fingers! Mixing in some salty peanuts and using it as a glaze would be yummy too, and much less work.

The cake is very sweet, but what would you expect from a caramel cake. Make sure you have plenty of milk on hand.

My husband and I aren't big cake eaters, but we agree that this is a delicious cake. It was really easy to make. I had a little trouble with the icing though. It hardened pretty fast but since it was already on the cake, but not yet spread, I couldn't reheat it. I found that if I dipped my spreader in hot water before spreading, it worked fine. It wasn't pretty, but it was yummy and moist.

Using some of the suggestions for the frosting so its easy to work with-a question-how can someone go thru the trouble of making a "Caramel" cake and complain it was too sweet???? Duh-
Also one person complained there wasn't enough batter for a 3 layer cake-the recipe clearly says grease TWO cake pans not 3.
If you like sweets this is the cake for you-if you don't like sweets-don't make it.

I thought I try to make my hubby a caramel cake for his b-day (since it is his favorite dessert and my cake turn out perfect! The frosting did not get hard too fast, so I was able to spread it on without any problems. The cake was so moist!!! Needless to say, the cake was gone in 2 days! I will definitely make it again!

This cake was delicious and the recipe was simple. However, the frosting dries so quickly it is very difficult to get a pretty, smooth looking product. If you can compromise on the aesthetics, this cake is worth it though!

This cake turned out to be a big hit! It was easy to make and my husband loved it and ate the cake in two days. I took a few slices to work and they devoured it. It was moist, and the icing was easy. I did add a (little more milk to the icing. Thank you, as it was the first caramel cake I have ever made and it will be my recipe for life.
