This is the perfect "base" recipe for any gourmet scone. I've tried three different sweet variations: lemon-blueberry with a lemon glaze, orange mochachino with an orange glaze, and white chocolate apricot pecan with a vanilla glaze. They are moist but not too cake-like with a little golden crunch outside. This is definately a keeper!

I like to add cinnamon chips to this recipe. I brush the tops with heavy cream and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. My family members request the cinnamon scones as their birthday treats!

This is the ESSENTIAL basic scone recipe. Add anything you want to it: savory meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, top them with creams sugars, glazes, or nothing at all....just whatever you can imagine. Be careful not to overwork the dough, just let that butter do it's thing in the oven....cause air pockets which make a flaky and beautiful scone!!!

I've made these scones many times. It's a great base recipe on which you can build your own scone masterpiece. I add in 2/3 cup chopped candied ginger and the zest of 1 lemon. It's to die for.

The first time I made these, they were absolutely raved about - and ever since, I've gotten requests at the mere mention of wanting to bake. This recipe is very easy to make, and the scones go very well with butter and jam.

I was looking for a scone recipe with buttermilk because I had made some good ones from a mix that called for it. I made these with mixed dried fruit instead of currants. They were really easy to make and really yummy!

I stumbled upon this recipe trying to find a use for leftover buttermilk. These are very good and don't need extra butter for serving.
