Really good. I didn't cook the stew in a dutch oven, instead I did it all on the stove. Beef turned out incredibly tender. The beef broth was store-bought, i added corriander and cayenne pepper. I also suggest adding more veggies and garlic than the recipe calls for.

This is simply the best beef stew recipe I've tried, even though I did tweak it a bit. I cut down the liquid to 8 cups from 10 cups using 4 cups brown stock & 4 cups beef broth, Did not add the final teaspoons of salt. The gravy came out rich and thick, and the meat was very tender. The aroma as the stew was cooking was heavenly! I'd rather have this dish for Thanksgiving than roast turkey!

This is a decent beef stew, but is pretty plain for all the work you do. The preparation and cooking time is much longer than states in the recipe. The recipe states prep time of 20 minutes and cooking time of 2 hr. 15 min. Prep time of 20 minutes might be possible if you are a really fast cook in a well-organized kitchen - it took me more like 45 minutes. Then the recipe itself has about 25 minutes of sauteeing, 1.5 hrs of stewing meat in oven and 1 hr. of simmering on stovetop - over three hours total. I was up pretty late finishing it.

I was surprised how tender the beef in this stew came out, and the flavor was fabulous! I used extra veggies, and a full head of mashed garlic instead of 5 cloves of minced. It was so good I wanted to keep eating even though I was full!. I will definitely be making this again!

This stew is so great, it's the only stew I've made that has turned out good. I tweaked the recipe a bit but whatever, it's sooo yummy!

I didn't think you could actually make beef stew this good at home. Next time, I'm going to try it in the slow cooker instead of the oven. This was so scrumptious and filling. I've always used beef stew mixes, but this is better than any mix I ever found. WOW! You must try this recipe, you won't be sorry, I promise!

It wasn't as good as my grandmother's but that's probably because I didn't use the bay leaves and such, and instead added just a dash of thyme. I also forgot to add balsamic vinegar as a substitute until after we ate. I used 4 cups of beef broth and 6 cups of water. It didn't get as think as I wanted (I love thick stew so I added corn starch near the end. My fiance felt it needed more beef, which came out very tender, might I add. I will try again, and this time, follow it exactly!
