This was the best stew I've made in my entire life. Even the 9 y/o finiky eater ate up with no complaints. My partner requested more onions. I think that they cook down so much he couldn't distinguish them. So next time, I'll include half the onions with the meat and half with the rest of the veggies so he can find them. The oldest daughter loves carrots so I doubled that amount. The oldest son loved the gravy so much he just sopped it up with bread for his second helping. This made more than enough for 5 of us to eat hearty and have leftovers as well as freeze some for another day.

This stew was very easy and the taste was excellent. My grandkids just loved it. Just make a pot of rice and a pan of cornbread and a peach cobbler for dessert and I had 5 happy people at my dinner table.

This stew is delicious and filling. I used beef stock, but will use less liquid next time as it didn't thicken up much. The recipe makes a huge amount. My only complaint is that it took a lot longer than 20 minutes to prepare; it took almost an hour, but well worth it.

this stew takes little long to be prepared, but once you try it you'll know it's worth it!!
I added cabbage to it because I personally love it in my stews, and it was wonderful... a recipe to make over and over again!

I had been looking for a recipe for beef stew that was like my mother's. This recipe is fantastic! I made a few modifications and I used beef broth and my recommendation is to not add any additional salt if you do. I also used half-onions and half-shallots. The beef gets so tender and just falls apart once its all done. Yum!

Even the third day, you won't believe it, my husband and I were eating it and it tasted better with each day. I just made popovers and a fresh salad to go with it each time. I agree, the best stew we have ever tasted.
