I added some balsamic vinegar like someone suggested, and I didn't have the spices so just used basil. But everything else was the same. I did add beef broth as well. You can cook this on your stove for about 4-5 hours and use the cheapest toughest stew meat. It will come out tender like butter! My husband can not get enough.

I've been searching for the perfect beef stew recipe, and this is it!!! My husband said it's better than his Mom's! I cut the veggies up a bit smaller than suggested, and I added some peas at the end, other than that I didn't alter it one bit - it doesn't need to be altered.

Very impressed; this was my first time making beef stew and I can't believe how good it was! Used 5 cups Low Sodium Beef broth and approx 4 cups water, was afraid it would be too watery, but it did thicken up. Added more carrots and more potatoes. It needed them. May consider adding green beans next time. Used balsamic vinegar instead of red wine since that's what I had on hand. Came out unbelievably delicious!

This stew if wonderful. I made it in my iron skillet for the first time. I did not have fresh herbs so I just used a pinch of thyme and parsley. I did cut the veggies up smaller and they worked out great. The meat just melts in your mouth and I used really cheap beef. I forgot the vinegar, but still turned out yummy! My family loved it!

The herb seasonings are simply delicious but I had difficulty browning all that meat and my stock was thin and kind of greasy. Other than that it is quite good and realtively easy.

I was searching for a comfort food recipe like Mom's from the 60's. This is it! Forget the fancy gourmet recipes. Add the Bisquick dumpling recipe off their box and you have the PERFECT beef stew.
