I took everyone else's suggestions with this dish and after placing the pecans on top, I coated the top with brown sugar. The sugar glazes the pecans as it cooks and is very good.

Because I was uncertain my husband's mid-western family would like a southern-style sweet potato casserole, I also prepared scalloped pototoes. To my surprise, this casserole was eaten first, I the leftovers were scallopped. You've got to try this!

I had to double the recipe for a crowd and was unhappy how soupy the casserole was--not sure if the doubling had something to do with this. Also, I topped the dish with marshmallows instead of nuts. I did get great comments from friends and family who ate these potatoes.

They came, they ate ... nut a morsel remained in the serving dish! My guests absolutely loved this sweet potato casserole and have asked me to make it again another time! Even those who "don't like" sweet potato liked it.

Can do without the chopped pecans - made the mashed potatoes too crunchy.
