    Dave, if you used phyllo dough instead of the puff pastry called for in the recipe (which is quite different from phyllo dough, that is probably the source of the disastrous results you mentioned.

    Typical Alton Brown: A GREAT recipe, explained clearly so that even intelligence-challenged, cooking-challenged, individuals with authority issues, who do NOT like to follow instructions ... even WE can make delicious food.

    My guests were super impressed.

    And I made the tarts ahead of time, like the man said, whipping them out of their zip-lock bags at the last moment and fooling everyone into thinking I know what I'm doing!

    This recipe has changed my life.

    Alton Brown, you are my hero. You are big in our house. My husband thinks you're funny ... and my husband doesn't think ANYONE is funny.

    Great recipe.
