Recipe is a winner! When followed to the "T", this recipe is very rich in flavor. I do a lot of cooking, so for the most part I had all of the ingredients except for the fresh herbs. All of the ingredients blend together so well it's amazing.

For me, the key ingredients in this dish was, the bacon, for the fat flavoring. Note to remember, bacon makes everything taste better :- If you can find a nice thick cut hickory bacon, it does add a very nice flavor to the meat. It's a tad time consuming, but most of it is just prep work. The hardest part was at the end, using the broiler, which if I'm not mistaken should be put on high for it to be 500 degrees. It cooks the meat perfectly, but it got really smokey in the oven. Other than that, it's the best Salisbury Steak I've ever had. Would definitely recommend and cook again.

absolutely marvelous! Made a couple changes though, I did not puree the bacon and onion mixture because I like having the different texture within the steak. It also gives the steak better flavor because you can actually bite into the bacon and onion: I did not use the ground veal due to its expense, but used 1 pound ground pork and a little more than 1 1/2 pounds of ground chuck as I fed 7 people and two teenagers! I pretty much followed the recipe other than that. I even roasted the garlic for the mashed potatoes and I WILL be doing that more often! Definitely gives the garlic a sweet roast flavor! I made sure the "opening" of the tin foil was at the top, but it poured out anyway and made a little mess in the oven. Nothing my self cleaning oven did not fix: Anyway a great recipe, just allow several hours as this is not hard, just time consuming! A great one for company!

Love Emeril, but would actually give 3 1/2 stars if I could. The gravy was good, but the steak was just a bit too bland for me and for the most part all I could taste was the bacon. Don't get me wrong we love bacon, but thought it was a bit overpowering on this dish. Mashed potatoes are really good, I make them often. Happy cooking to all! :

Very yumolicous. Sauce is incredibly good (though I didn't use mushrooms cause they went bad before I could use them. Next time I will definately add the mushrooms, as I bet it would be even better. It's not a figure-friendly recipe, but one that is a perfect comfort food for those long wintery days.

Worth the effort to make. Again, not complicated, just a lot of prep. But the flavors are amazing.
