This is wonderful! So different from the standard tomato soup and very easy to make. I used my mother's home-grown tomatoes, which were not plum tomatoes, and it still turned out well. I delivered some of the soup to my parents, as it was their produce. My father LOVED it. And he is the pickiest eater I know!

Enjoyed this soup. Didn't have shallots, so substituted yellow onion. Also, decided to ease up on the cayenne based on some other reviews -- used 1/4 tsp cayenne with 1/4 tsp black pepper - turned out fine. Next time might try 1/2 tsp both... I like it spicy. I also peeled the tomatoes. And I added orzo at the end. Froze half for later use. Thanks for a good recipe.

My family loved this, even the 4 year old!
I added a couple of cloves of minced garlic with the shallots, used half and half instead of cream and peeled the tomatoes before putting them in the soup. I also used a normal blender, working in batches.
We ate this with grilled cheese on sourdough. We'll definitely be making this again soon.

Yes this soup is very tasty and a little spicy. My family loved it. The soup gets more spicy as it sits. I made boxed spanish rice and ate the two together and it was great. I am overwhelmed with tomatoes especially grape. I also used Half and Half because I couldn't go to the store. So I used those changes and they worked just fine. I will probably make another batch and freeze it. Thank You.

Wonderful recipe. My family absolutely loved it. I subbed out the heavy cream for plain yogurt, milk and some butter which worked out great and was even lower calorie than the original. The only change I would suggest making is to use a fourth teaspoon instead of a half since it was too spicy for me although no one else seemed bothered by it.

LOVED IT!!! I didnt follow the recipe exactly and improvised, due to lack of list for exact ingredients. I put little less than half white onion, one garlic clove and sour cream instead of heavy cream. But overall had good texture very creamy, and a nice spicy kick that brings it all together. This is a very good choice. Top it off with a mixed two cheese sourdough grilled sandwich and Tada!
