This pie was amazingly delicious, and easy to make. However....the color is really disgusting, sort of a grayish tan. Next time I will subsitute with granulated sugar and clear vanilla and see if that will help. The flavor and texture is out of this world. I just started watching Aida's show and I LOVE it. Can't stand to watch Paula make a fool out of herself on national television anymore. Nice to see someone else taking cooking seriously.

I baked this for the Piefest at the school where I work. It was a hit not only with the teachers/staff but also with my family. I found it easy to follow and had great results. I used an Already Pie Crust but baked it according to the direction for the crust in the recipe using rice to weigh it during cooking. Everyone thought it was made from scratch. I also melted chocolate chips in the bottom of the crust when it came out of the oven and spread them up the sides. The filling didn't seap into the crust at all and everyone really enjoyed the touch of chocolate. One thing I would like to know how to improve is the color of the bananas as they turned color. I am planning on making this pie again for the holidays. I hope you will, too.

I really liked this recipe. I didn't have any baking beans so I just watched the pie to make sure it didn't puff up.

I actually really like this show. I think it is kind of cool that Aida and Noah answer questions on the aire. However, I will agree that directions do need to be made a little clearer. I made this recipe last night and it turned out well. However, I made a rum whipped cream and put it on before the pie was set and it sank a bit. The pie is not as pretty as it could be but still tastes good. Next time I will remember to let the pie set before putting on the topping. Everything else came out very well-including the crust which I am usually a klutz with so I was pretty happy with my first results.

The only thing I think the show should lose is her side kick. I like her answering real life questions while she's cooking. I've only watched the show the last two weeks, but her recipes look good, and I'm also trying the banana pie for Thanksgiving. I completely agree with the reviewer that pointed out the little splash of water many other cooks on Food Network use to "wash" their hands. Apparently they get a pass from the food police because you enjoy their shows? Come on!

Anonymous - I love the idea of putting the chocolate chips in the bottom crust when it comes out of the oven...once they melt, spread & cool they would definately keep the crust from being soggy & add that yum choc flavor to the pie.

Cant imagine why anyone would add sugar to the whipped cream...the coffee liquer woud certainly add enough sweetness to the cream.

Obviously Aida only wiped her hands on the towel for speed purposes and if you ever notice the other chefs that do wash their hands on air...they merely go thru the motions..turn on the cold water tap for seconds to appease picky viewers. The focus is to demonstrate the recipe NOT to duplicate how you would proceed at home. So, lets not be too picky or silly.

To the lady whose filling didnt thicken and 'ran' after the pie was chilled - umm, if it didnt thicken while it was cooking on the stovetop...you didnt wait long enough, cook it long enough to thicken before you pulled it off and considered it "done". It wasnt done yet. Next time, and yes, try it again, cook it on the stovetop until it actually thickens before pulling it off and chiling it. With that many egg yolks & the cornstarch.....its impossible for it NOT to thicken. Be patient and let it thicken on the stove before continuing.

The only part of the TV version of this recipe that confuses me is that Aida apparantly filled the pie with the fillling while it was still hot ? Not sure if that was correct or again, for TV purposes and then topped the hot filling with the coffee flavored whipped cream? That definately wouldnt be correct. The filling would have to be cooled/chilled before topping with the whipped cream. That is my only criticism.

Plan to make this pie along with 2 pumpkin pies, apple pie, caramel apple pie and New York cheesecake to a family dinner . If its fabulous or not...I will revisit this review site.

I have made this pie three times for three different dinner parties and it was a huge hit each time. Make sure the crust is baked enough....golden brown on the edges and light brown on the bottom. Easy and wonderful!!!!

I really had been wanting to make a cream pie, crust and all. The crust was easy enough and came out fine. The do it yourself whipped topping was good (I added some powdered sugar for a little sweet, but the custard did not set at all. I don't know what went wrong, followed directions and cooked longer than said but, the mixture never seemed to thicken. I thought it would thicken as it cooled, stayed a watery mess.

The flavor is great and not too sweet. the balance of everything was perfect. The recipe was very easy and all the elements came together nicely.I wasn't able to do the crust due to my time constraint but i substituted a frozen pie crust which worked well.
