While visiting my daughter, she picked up her farm share and had 6 lbs of homemade sauerkraut in the box! Since I don't like sauerkraut, I decided to look for a recipe that had some "extras". And this was great!! My daughter and I piled it on our brats and enjoyed it so much! I used Heineken Dark Lager for the beer, and enjoyed one with the meal. I highly recommend this recipe for anyone who has an attitude about sauerkraut!

When looking at this recipe I was not sure because of the Juniper berries and apple. Never having homemade saurkraut I did not know what to think... I tried it, using Budweiser.... It was delicious... Have made it a second time since... Very filling! Wonderful. Thanks!

Please put the peppercorns and the crushed juniper berries in a cheesecloth, no one wants to bite into them! You can doctor-up sauerkraut easier than this. If you do want to follow the recipe, and you rinse the sauerkraut, add some malt vinegar or apple cider vinegar.

I made this recipe exactly as directed. It turned out exceptionally well. I used Redhook Brewery's Blackhook beer, but the next time I'll poach the sausages for a little longer to ensure they're done at serving time. I grilled the buns so they were just toasted. It made the sausages taste all that much better. Can't wait to have this again!

For a different way to make brats, this was fantastic. Even people that don't like saurkraut liked tis dish.

I prepared this dish as written. It was absolutely delicious, and I don't even like sauerkraut - I had two helpings. Fantastic comfort food.

Not sure where to start on this one! It was fabulous. I fixed this for a family dinner; my Dad is a huge apple sauerkraut and sausage/bratwurst fan, not to mention quite the expert on the topic! He LOVED this. I live in Seattle, so was fortunate enough to use Uli's Sausages, as Emeril did on the show.

The flavors were amazing and it was a hit for the whole family! Highly recommend this recipe!

Our German and Italian friends said this was the best sauerkraut they'd had in a very long time. They took all the left overs home!

At first I had my doubts but it was interesting.. I thought the beer would over power the taste of the saurkraut - this was not the case.. It was excellent.. will definately make it again.
