We love this drink in the winter! We've modified it using Splenda to make it a little more diabetic friendly.

Hot Buttered Rums are my hubs fav holiday drink! We've always bought batter from liquor stores or markets, but ever since we moved from NoCal to SoCal we have the hardest time finding any. Mulitplied recipe x 4. For past couple nights, I've brought jars of batter, with bottle of spiced-rum to host's houses. These "hot" cocktails were the talks of the nights! Also, perfect for alcoholics/non-drinkers, cuz you can mix it w/almost anything as a hot drink! One friend mixed it with hot-chocolate, another mixed it with hot-cider. No more looking for batter in the stores!!! Sooooo much better than store-bought, w/o a doubt! BTW - I accidently bought "dark" brown-sugar, vs. light- JUST AS GOOD!

Fantastic!! Why on earth would you spend your money on the stuff you buy in the store, when this is soooo easy to make and so much better tasting. Nothing better than Emerils Hot Buttered Rum on a cold day with good company! I discovered this recipe about 6 years ago and have made a batch or 2 every year as soon as the cold weather hits. Haven't found anyone who dislikes it yet. Enjoy!! Great idea familyburtness on the bottle of rum and jar of mix idea....tis the season for host/hostess gifts...certainly more original than the traditional bottle of wine.

This is the best hot buttered rum I've ever had. I've purchased the pre-mixes in the grocery stores and they don't compare to this. I was thinking it would be fun to mix this up, put it in a fun canning jar, and give it to my friends for Christmas with a bottle of Rum. Oustanding recipe. Thanks Chef Emeril!

This is so easy to make and delicious! I made these to share with my neighbors after we snowplowed our driveways. It made a bad job more fun! If you cut the recipe in half, it makes 3 mugs. Thank you for a fun, warm drink on a snowy day!

This is the best version of the recipe I've tried. I use a mini-mellon baller and make balls and place them in the freezer to keep on hand so I can whip these up in a hurry! Yummy

I was very surprised with the taste. It was smooth and warming. It also helped me to breath better. Perfect for cold wet weather. Thank you Emeril for the wonderful cocktail.

the ammount of rum is too much for an 8 oz or even 10 mug.
use two ounces instead of three, and fill with water.
not only that, but the instructions say to add the rum to the mixture - WRONG
emeril, you idiot
add water to the rum THEN add mixture and let it melt, otherwise you will cook the butter with the alcohol - gross
the best rum to use is KILO KAI
then SAILOR JERRYS
then MEYERS
then CAPT MORGANS

I've had and made many variations over the years and this by far is the best I've had. Use a premium rum when I make them. Oh, so good.

I made these Hot Toddies, so we could sip them on Christmas afternoon, by the Christmas tree with my in-laws. The weather had gotten blow freezing that day, which is cold for Holland, and it was a lovely treat by the Christmas tree when we opened our presents. Unbeknownst to me, my husband and in-laws had never heard of hot toddies, hot buttered rum, or anything like this before. Guess it is not part of the Dutch drink repertoire. Anyway as we sat by the tree opening up presents and sipping our hot toddies, they commented on how they were enjoying this new hot drink. They must have liked them alot, as they asked me to make a second batch! This recipe is fabulous. I did follow the advice of other reviewers and lowered the rum to just 2oz. That was strong enough for us. I also added just a little dollup of butter at the end, so that you could see it melting as I handed out the drinks. This is a keeper recipe and I am sure I will be asked again to make them. Thanks Emeril, for a lovely recipe that made Christmas with family just a little bit better!
