    the f. toast was okay.
the best part of it was that it wasn't too
    sweet.

My Whole family is filled with HUGE breakfast eaters. We've never really had a recipe for french toast, we always just kind of threw it together. That is, until now! Oh my, this makes the crispiest most flavorful french toast we've ever had! Thanks Racheal!!

I am a heavy sugar user. People ask to I want more coffee with my sugar/tea. There has to be a mistake with the recipe, because the chemistry is off. 1 cup is just too much. I couldn't imagine topping it with maple syrup or whip cream, since it's so sweet. Too overpowering. The sugar sticks to the pan and caramelizes if heat is too high. I recommend 1/2c or even less. Otherwise, the recipe is great. If there really is a typo, it should be corrected.

This was an easy and very delicious french toast recipe - I used challah bread. A great shortcut and cheaper alternative, especially in winter, is to use a bag of frozen berries to make the compote sauce.

I made this delicious french toast in the morning for my kids and they just loved it!It is absolutely marvelous and I found that the secret ingredient that just made it melt in your mouth was the ginger. This is delicious and the three berry compote is absolutely delectible!

We're not big french toasties--my husband said this was throrouhly unlike the french toast I normally make. Instead of nutmeg I used a splash of lemon juice; I also used the lesser 1/2 portion of sugar.

I liked the compote for use with early season sour strawberries. Let the syrup cool a bit to thicken. I didn't bother with more than one berry--but that was okay. I'll use this recipe to make syrup for pancakes as well.

Okay, so I probably don't need a cup of sugar in this recipe, but it certainly makes it stand out and make challah taste wonderful. I made the compote with less sugar (guilt and lime juice and it turned out really tasty.

I like the idea of stale french bread and cornstarch but the 1 cup of sugar was way too sweet. My husband couldn't even finish his. Sorry Rachael, we love most of your recipes but not this one.

I made this recipe in a snap one Sunday morning, including the Three Berry Compote. It was quick to prepare and really delicious. It looks very elegant on a plate - no one would ever know what a cinch it is to prepare!
