This is unquestionably the BEST "french toast" I've ever had. I used thick slices of cinnamon raisin bread. The sauce was awesome, too, and I ended up serving the leftover sauce over pound cake the next evening. Everyone agreed that the sausage patties that went along with this recipe were the best patty-style sausage ever. And the mimosas ? always a favorite of mine ? were over-the-top fantastic with the addition of orange liquer (I used cointreau. Rachael rocks with this menu!

This is the best french toast I have ever tasted! Don't forget the cornstarch, that is what gives it the crunch!

This french bread was perfect, because it was nice and crunchy on the outside, and not too soggy on the inside. Most french bread I can't stand the sogginess of the bread, but this was nice and crunchy. It had become our new treat for people's special day in our house.

Made it twice. It was better the second time when I cut the sugar in half.

My boyfriend was really impressed when I brought out the finished french toast. The loaf bread is definitely better than using sliced white bread. Very tasty and very easy!

This was great, but I did have to make some changes to the recipe. I did not have whole milk, but half and half, and I reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup. I reduced the sugar because I was making it for my two year old son who needs no help being hyper, and I drizzled syrup over it after I put sliced bananas between two pieces. He has been sick and not eating well. He ate at this meal better than many others. Thanks for another good one Rachel!

Added extra nutmeg and some orange zest.
