I used bacon bits in this recipe instead of the actual fatty bacon.
It was amazing. I also layered potatoes, then cabbage mixture, then potatoes, etc, until I filled the baking dish. My family loved it.
    I love you Tyler.

Oh my God - this is unbelievable! This recipe will be a staple for my entertaining menus. I've watched Tyler for years but never made one of his recipes - can't wait to try his meatloaf. I used Nappa cabbage - couldn't find Savoy. To cut down on the fat: I used 8 slices of thin sliced bacon and drained the bacon grease off - wilted the cabbage in the butter and used vegetable spray for the sides of the pan.

This is the best potato gratin I've even made/eaten. It is rich and creamy and the cabbage is such a great addition. It was very easy to prepare. I just made it to make sure it's what I want to make for Easter dinner.....and it is!!! Thank you so much Tyler. You are so inventive.

I have now made this dish many times over when entertaining. It has by far become the most popular potato dish I have made. Although many dishes will work, A 10x12x3 seems to be the perfect size as the large surface area gives everybody a shot at the crusty top. If you can't find slab bacon, 1# of regular sliced bacon will suffice cut crossways every 1/4 inch. Don't be shy to expirament with other potatos either (e.g. Yukon Gold. Bon appetit!!!

I thought the recipe was very easy to duplicate and the potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.
