I never thought I would find a dessert that could even come close to my Grandmother's chocolate poundcake, but Paula you did it. This recipe is so easy to follow and comes out perfectly. I took the suggestion of others to reduce the amount of almond and a little less cinnamon. Perfect!

Love, love this dessert. If you like chocolate and bread pudding - I can't think of a better marriage. This is now one of our favorites - and it's so easy to make. I leave out the almond extract because I don't like almond - and we also use Kahula for the liquor. It makes a big batch. Leftovers taste great a week later too! I just polished off a dish of it -and felt compelled to write a review... it's that good!

This was really good. I am a chocolate lover and it hit the spot.
I used strong coffee in place of the alcohol and it worked well.

I liked the bread pudding.
However, I think that the next time I make it I might use those little "donut gems" that come packaged in groups of 6 in the lunch cake section of the grocery store. I feel that the dense consistency of the donuts will turn out better than the cubes of soft french bread. Paula has a recipe for Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding, so why not use donuts?
Also, this tasted way better heated up for a few seconds in the microwave the next day.

I made this for Thanksgiving dinner. I was not as pleased with this as some other of Paula's reciepes. I did not think it had enough "pudding" to it. I followed the reciepe and used Italian bread but I will not be fixing it again.

The first time I made this I did everything wrong - including overcooking it, using the wrong type of chocolate, and way overdrying the bread -- and yet it still turned out delicious. A few tips, DON'T use baking chocolate...it doesn't melt in this dish. Also, if you dry your bread in the oven instead of leaving it out overnight, make sure you watch it so it doesn't turn into croutons. Enjoy!

This is wonderful and chocolatey. My wife has never really liked bread pudding, but this has made her rethink her position. About the only thing I would do differently is use less almond extract, since for me the flavor comes through a little strong.

I brought this to a friend's for dessert. Everyone raved about it and asked me for the recipe.
