I loved it! the first time, I made it exctly how the recipe called for, but the second time I added an aditional 1/2 stick of butter and replaced the water for buttermilk which made it more moist!

The first time I made them they were dry....very dry. I liked the frosting and idea of the recipe so I consulted with another weekend chef and he said sub. Milk for the water and add a 1/4c. Mayo. Best cupcakes ever. Add just a little more rum as well...I'm only 24, what the heck :

I was a little concerned when I read so many reviews about how dry these cupcakes might be, but shouldn't have worried. Made these as mini-cupcakes (bake for about 15 min and they were very popular at my son's Play Group and my daughter has requested a batch for her classmates when her birthday rolls around. They were moist and delicious! It's hard to stop at just one. DO make sure your oven is at the right temp (soooo important; invest in an oven thermometer no matter how fancy or new your oven is. DO check the cupcakes with a toothpick 1~2 minutes before done time. Over-baking and too high temps are the #1 cause of dry cupcakes.

I made this recipe to the letter. They were good right out of the oven but as they cooled and came time to frost they were like little cocoa dirt balls, very dry. Should have known by reading the recipe 1/2 c water for all that flour and cocoa, not good.

The recipe made a really dry cupcake. I made the recipe over by replacing the water with 1/2 cup of butter milk and adding two tablespoons of sour cream.. Delicious!!

I have never made cupcakes from scratch before but I found this recipe easy to follow. your arm will hurt while your mixing the butter but it's worth it.
