These have become part of my holiday repertoire. I love how versatile they are. I like using Seville orange marmalade and that you can make the filling a let it sit for several days. They are one of my top two favorite cookies. Thank you Emeril.

I have made these a multiple amount of times not just for XMAS but all the during the year.
The dough is awesome and very versatile; I have filled these cookies with apricot jam and it was a winner at my home.

This Christmas cookie recepie has been passed down for generations by my great grandmother, grandmother and my mother. Now I make them with my family every year. The recepie is almost identical. The only difference is that we make cuts on the logs on each side and curl the dough up and sprinkle the logs with colored sprinkles. Wonderful cookie and a wonderful tradition for us.

    Thank you emeril,
My Sicilian gandmother made these, but the recipe she had in her head made about 100, I could never figure out how to cut it down.
Now I can make these for my grandchildren. Thanks again

THis is my 5th yr making these..and every year I get someone else who wants the recipe..they are awesome! I used Smuckers Orange Marmalade (the best brand by far, no other compares and I use an orange blossom honey, not clover.., I ran the marmalade thru a processor a bit so the pieces of orange rind are not so big. These are addicting! Even just the filling when your making them.. it's hard not to pick at it! These are by far my most favorite recipe! IT's the ultimate homemade fig newton.. and if you make the filling ahead of time..and maybe even the dough.. then putting them together goes quickly. Make these you will love them! : This recipe is worth me coming on here every year to tell everyone how great they are!

This cookie resembles one made by my Italian family for years, called cucchdati. Only differences were crisco is used rather than butter in the dough, and it is melted first. Also, cookies are glazed with a powdered sugar and milk glaze before sprinkles are added. We made these in crescent shapes, but my mom also made them in swan shapes. Right out of my childhood!!

These cookies were delicious. The filling with all the combined complex flavors is exceptional even if it is labor and ingredient intensive. They need to be eaten within a few days for best taste, but they warm up and freshen nicely after a few seconds in the microwave. These are way better than Newtons!
