Although I have never used ham, I absolutely love this recipe and have made it dozens of times - with chicken, ground beef and shrimp. Make sure to completely cool the rice if you are making it for the recipe (I've even thrown it in the freezer. I agree that it does need soy, but I have always added it after it's cooked (much like the restaurants do along with some chow mein noodles. It's so easy and tasty!

This is not the absolute best fried rice I've ever made but it is a close second. A dash of soy sauce and some srichira hot sauce really help zip things together.

This came out pretty well when I made it, but I found it a little flavorless. I added maybe about a quarter cup of soy sauce after everything else had been added and it helped a great deal.

This was an easy recipe that was absolutely delicious. Even my 9 year old who is not a big rice fan loved it.
